Columbia professor: “Cracker may have been an appropriate term” for Trayvon Martin to call George Zimmerman

Can you imagine his response if Zimmerman called Trayvon a n****r?

Via Red Alert:
It made sense for Trayvon Martin to call George Zimmerman a “cracker,” according to Columbia University professor John McWhorter.

McWhorter, a professor of linguistics and a contributing editor to The New Republic, was a guest on MSNBC‘s ‘All In with Chris Hayes‘ on Thursday night, where he expounded on the Zimmerman murder trial. McWhorter proclaimed it somehow acceptable that Trayvon Martin had supposedly called Zimmerman a “cracker.”

“Of course he might refer to the person as a cracker because he’s a human being,” McWhorter said, explaining that Martin might have felt threatened by Zimmerman following him.

“I think we can understand that cracker may have been an appropriate term at the time,” he added.

Zimmerman trial blockbuster — Eyewitness says Trayvon on top punching Mixed Martial Arts style

A neighbor, John Good, who witnessed the fight between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman has just devastated the State’s case, testifying that he saw the fight between the two, that Trayvon was on top punching Mixed Martial Arts style, and that the scream must have come from Zimmerman because Zimmerman was on the bottom and Trayvon was faced away from the witness.

Do you really think this would this fall under a stalking law?

That's up to the prosecution to prove. That's what made the testimony of Martin's friend so important. If Martin felt threatened, then Zimmerman is criminally stalking under Florida law. If Zimmerman was criminally stalking Martin, then the stand your ground law no longer applies.

Absolutely incorrect.

According to Florida law, for it to be even misdemeanor stalking, the assailant has to "willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly follow"......
The "and" means all three factors have to be in place. Zimmerman neither maliciously followed, nor did he repeatedly follow Martin.

Zimmerman was behaving in a perfectly lawful manner even if he did follow Martin, and even if he did initiate the VERBAL confrontation.

Martin-Zimmerman fight at issue in murder trial - World - CBC News

Two neighbours and a police officer gave accounts Friday in George Zimmerman's murder trial that seemed to bolster the neighbourhood watch volunteer's contention that he was on his back and being straddled by Trayvon Martin during their confrontation.

Neighbor Jonathan Good said it appeared the unarmed teen was straddling Zimmerman, while another neighbour, Jonathan Manalo, said Zimmerman seemed credible when he said immediately after the fight that he had shot Martin in self-defence. Officer Tim Smith testified that Zimmerman's backside was covered in grass and wetter than his front side.

All three were called as witnesses for prosecutors who are trying to convict him of second-degree murder.

Good, who had perhaps the best view of any witness, said he did not see anyone's head being slammed into the concrete sidewalk, as Zimmerman claims Martin did to him. Good initially testified that it appeared "there were strikes being thrown, punches being thrown," but during detailed questioning he said he saw only "downward" arm movements being made.

Zimmerman has claimed that he fatally shot 17-year-old Martin last year in self-defense as the Miami-area teen was banging his head into the concrete sidewalk behind the townhomes in a gated community.

Under prosecution questioning, Good said he never saw anyone being attacked that way during the fight between Zimmerman and Martin.

"I couldn't see that," Good said moments later while being cross-examined.

Good said he heard a noise behind his townhome in February 2012, and he saw what looked like a tussle when he stepped out onto his patio to see what was happening.

He said he yelled: "What's going on? Stop it."

Good testified he saw a person in black clothing on top of another person with "white or red" clothing. He said he couldn't see faces but it looked like the person on the bottom had lighter skin. Martin was black and was wearing a dark hoodie. Zimmerman identifies as Hispanic and was wearing a red jacket. Good was back inside calling 911 when he heard a gunshot.

"It looked like there were strikes being thrown, punches being thrown," Good said.

Later, under cross-examination, he said that it looked like the person on top was straddling the person on bottom in a mixed-martial arts move known as "ground and pound." When defence attorney Mark O'Mara asked him if the person on top was Martin, Good said, "Correct, that's what it looked like." Good also said the person on the bottom yelled for help.

Trayvon Martin’s Stepmother: I Don’t Think Zimmerman “Picked Him Out Because He Was Black”…

Libs aren’t going to like this.

Via Mediaite:
“No, I really don’t think it was Zimmerman don’t like black people, or he picked him out because he was black. Did he profile him with the hoodie and stuff like that as this thug, whatever, walking, in Zimmerman’s mind? Yes, but to say that he targeted him because he was black? No, I don’t–I don’t think so.”

I wouldn't doubt it DB. They need him to be white.

Hispanics gun down African-Americans all the time with very little mention of it in the news.

Judge Napolitano Says the Zimmerman Prosecution ‘Shot Themselves in Both Feet’ With This Seemingly Odd Decision

Prosecutors in the George Zimmerman murder trial on Tuesday played parts of Sean Hannity’s 2012 interview with Zimmerman, seemingly allowing the defendant to tell jurors his side of the story yet again. Judge Andrew Napolitano called the decision a “head-scratcher” and accused the prosecution of shooting themselves “in both feet.”

Appearing on “America Live” with Megyn Kelly, Napolitano said he’d never seen a move like that from prosecutors. He said it seems the prosecution is trying to prove to the jury that there have been some inconstancies in Zimmerman’s story about what happened on the night he fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Napolitano went on to say that perhaps potential inconsistencies could be helpful during cross-examination if Zimmerman is called to testify by the defense. However, at this point, Napolitano said he couldn’t imagine the defense putting Zimmerman on the stand.

“He doesn’t have to testify,” Napolitano added. “There has been so much of him in front of this jury at the choice of the government. All of the explanations he gave are lucid. The differences between them are minuscule. I honestly think that the government has been shooting itself in the foot and with what they did today, they shot themselves in both feet.”

St. Skittles Supporters Start “Riot For Trayvon” Facebook Page…

The group’s description: “They don’t think we will tear this mutha fukka up! LIKE IF YOU READY TO RIDE! LETS FLEX OUR MUSCLE! WHAT, YOU SCARED?”

How delightful.
Sanford, Florida — Sanford police tell 10 News they’re looking into a Facebook page that has popped up under the heading of Riot for Trayvon.

The page includes posts like; “Justice in an eye for an eye.”

The page also includes a graphic photo of Trayvon Martin that appeared in court last week of the 17-year-old taken shortly after he was shot by George Zimmerman.

Thursday marked the eighth day of testimony in Zimmerman’s second degree murder trial.

If Zim wins, there's riots, and someone will most likely kill him.

If he loses he goes to prison and someone will most likely kill him.

Too bad, George. You can't unring a bell.

Little more thought and less action and none of this needed to happen.

Analysis: George Zimmerman Probably Won't Be Convicted of Murder or Manslaughter -- Here's Why

ANALYSIS by DAN ABRAMS
July 7, 2013

I drew a legal conclusion on "Good Morning America" Saturday that would have surprised the Dan Abrams who covered the George Zimmerman case leading up to, and shortly after, his arrest.

Now that the prosecution's case against Zimmerman is in, as a legal matter, I just don't see how a jury convicts him of second degree murder or even manslaughter in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

So what happened? How can an armed man who shot and killed an unarmed teen after being told by the police that he didn't need to keep following him, likely be found not guilty of those crimes?

I certainly sympathize with the anger and frustration of the Martin family and doubt that a jury will accept the entirety of George Zimmerman's account as credible. But based on the legal standard and evidence presented by prosecutors it is difficult to see how jurors find proof beyond a reasonable doubt that it wasn't self defense.

Trayvon Martin’s Dad Answered ‘No’ When Asked if Screams on 911 Tape Belonged to His Son, Detective Testifies

SANFORD, Fla. (TheBlaze/AP) — The lead investigator probing Trayvon Martin’s death testified on Monday that his father had answered “no” when the detective asked if the screams belonged to his son. Officer Chris Serino played the 911 call for Tracy Martin in the days immediately following Martin’s death in February 2012.

“He looked away and under his breath he said ‘no’,” Serino said of Tracy Martin.

Officer Doris Singleton backed up Serino’s account.
