It remarkable that they could so definably come up with that deduction. Just incredible.
I am surprised we didn't see it in block letters on the front page of the newspaper.

Pot effects different people in different ways and depending on the strength of and amount consumed. There is no doubt in my mind that it can impair but not everybody. I don't smoke because one toke will make me near comatose, where as, I know people who function fine and can be very creative artistically or can do extreme sports without adverse effects. I don't think any blanket statements can be made about it, but I think blanket statements can be made about alcohol consumption.

I have to be careful with the darned stuff. I have driven on it many times - in my younger daze when I was immortal and bulletproof. Driving in straight lines wasn't a problem. I can think of a few corners and cars that came up a lot faster than predicted. Now, I use just a toot for pain. High I've had a bit much. Too high can and has put me into full cardiac arrest. Passing out at home's not a bad thing. Heck, I've always come out of it. That might not happen if there's a steering wheel in my hands.

I think the folk who pay for these studies have more money than brains

That would mostly be us poor starving taxpayers.

???? I was referring to controlled tests regarding reaction and threat recognition time. Unless i am some sort of freak or because i was not accustomed to it, whatever, it definitely impaired me.

Control by tazzer.

I know this information will blow your mind but apparently operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana increases your chances of having an accident:

Study: Pot smokers twice as likely to have car accidents

Who would have thought that a perception altering drug would affect your ability to operate a motor vehicle?

I'm not surprised. I haven't been near pot in quite a few years but I remember A few times when driving a
car after a few tokes would not have been a good idea.

The purpose of studies like this isn't to determine if someone is impaired by whatever substance, be it booze or drugs, but to show how much is too much and other issues like that. It's the news media and their headlines that misinterpret things. But it is funny sometimes.

I once rode with a guy who was toking. We were ripping along about 10 miles an hour, and he thought he was going too fast. I could not make this up.

He later destroyed a buddies car which he had borrowed and told the investigating office he had smoked a "J". BIG d'oh there, Homer.

Drinking and driving. Toking and driving. Drugging and driving. Same sh it. Not a good idea.

This "study' counts as perhaps the first "No Sh it Sherlock" study of 2012.

Actually, it does. It's called distracted driving - especially in a car with the ash tray tucked under the cup holder....

That's why most I know flick the ash out the window.

With that logic, the radio is a distraction... guess we should rip those out of all cars and anybody caught talking on a cell phone should be shot on sight.

Back in my younger years of 18-21 I drove a few times stoned off my gourd with a car load of other people stoned off their gourd.... I completely understand that being high on pot can screw people's perspective and concentration while driving, as I've been in the car with a stoned driver and hit curbs and other stupid things.

Myself.... I was more paranoid of being pulled over for going a km over the speed limit.... I was keeping on the limit, constantly checking my mirrors, keeping my proper distance behind cars, making sure we all get from point A to point B as safely as possible. I was more careful driving stoned than I was sober

At the time we all lived in Pictou County, which isn't heavy with traffic and a lot of empty backroads to drive on with little traffic at night..... but since those days I have avoided driving high on pot... it's just not wise cuz if you do get into an accident, even if it's not your fault.... you being high will certainly come back to bite you in the ass.

That and not everybody who smokes pot has the concentration skills I have..... Even in those younger years, if I had too much and I knew my concentration abilities were greatly hindered, I wouldn't drive... there was a line I drew where I knew I had some, felt good, but my attention was still the same as sober.... and when I had too much, things were a little wonky and I didn't have the confidence in my abilities to drive safely.

In other words my paranoia was paranoid of my paranoia and thus, prevented me from driving when I was completely off my head.

Argue all you want. Unless there are a hell of a lot of obstacles on the road over a distance, you're not going to be all over the road - and the dashcam will tattle anyhow.

I smoke it too ... and am smart enough to enjoy it at home or some place close enough to walk.

Though I don't smoke and drive these days, I can honestly say that in my younger years when I did, I never swerved, ran a red light or anything.... I've passed several cop cars while stoned and none pulled me over, because I was concentrating on my driving and concentrating on the road.... There was no justification for them to pull me over.

I probably drove better stoned than I do sober due to being a bit more complacent & relaxed while driving sober..... cuz I don't want to get into an accident or hurt anybody while driving stoned, I was much more careful and more aware of my surroundings.

But it was too much work so I stopped and just drive sober these days :p

You can't enjoy a high if you're focusing on something serious the whole time.

But you should see me playing FPS's online when I'm baked.... hand/eye coordination is insane that I pull some interesting matrix moves and people get PO'd claiming I'm hacking or cheating.

Performance Enhancing Drug I suppose.... hope they don't make video games an Olympic sport

In Ontario, you can get nailed for fiddling with the radio too. Distraction is anything that takes your concentration from the task at hand ... according to the cop on the TV news re: the Family Day distracted driver blitz.

BTW: weaving is crossing the centreline or hitting the shoulder too. Maybe you're the greatest straight line driver in the world. How well does a straight line work at a bend in the road?

As far as I know this is the first study which proves marijuana affects your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

 Okay.... Have it your way. You need a better quality dope.

I was thinking the same thing. Stuff we get you would be lucky if you found a car much less figured out how to make it go.

Where I grew up a 100 meters was called the straight stretch.
