As per usual, you said it for me and far better than I could. Well said! (Burning Harry Potter books! Really? NOOOO! :book: )
Sounds like the Preacher has been turned down on his application for a permit
by the Gainesville Fire Department to have an open fire....so the bonfire thing is
out.
He might have to use a wood-burning appliance of some type.
I agreed with most of what you said except the part I quoted. The US government nor the military is responsible for this loon threatening to burn the Quran, to suggest we abandon our allies due to some nutbar is a little premature.
"I don't speak very often about my own religion but let me be very clear: My God and my Christ is a tolerant God, and that's what we want to see in this world," he said.
"I unequivocally condemn it," he said. "We all enjoy freedom of religion and that freedom of religion comes from a tolerant spirit."
^ Brownie Points to them"We are fighting extremists. We are not fighting Islam or all members of the Muslim faith. And by burning the Qur'an, this sends a horrible message of intolerance," Peter MacKay said Wednesday at CFB Esquimalt, B.C.
^ And yet in our country, we have certain laws against hate crimes and intolerance.... if this was something towards Jewish people, it'd be anti-semitic..... I've lost all support for the Afghan war long ago and now more then ever, I believe our troops should be taken out of this disaster before these type of idiots make what NATO is fighting, turn out to be 10 times worse then ever before and drag this whole conflict right back to square one."And as a very practical matter, I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women who are in uniform," the president said.
"Look, this is a recruitment bonanza for al-Qaeda. You could have serious violence in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan... This could increase the recruitment of individuals who'd be willing to blow themselves up in American cities, or European cities," he said.
"I hope he listens to those better angels and understands that this is a destructive act that he's engaging in," the president said.
US officials say they cannot intervene as the church's actions would likely be protected by the US constitution's guarantee of freedom of speech.
Taking the fight against the Americans on their soil will result in the Americans visiting all kinds of retribution on those groups... It's only a matter of time before the US gets tired of having their Constitution used against them before a guerrilla-style war is played-out in a Muslim nation.

..... CNN reports that the federal indictment, unsealed in Detroit this morning , accuses nine people of conspiracy to commit violence against local, state and federal law enforcement officers.
The document, CNN reports, calls Hutaree an "anti-government, extremist group" and says it has been planning its attacks since 2008.
CNN says the documents charge that the group advocated luring officers into an ambush through fake 911 calls, and also discussed killing officers or their families at home.......
It's a lot different, burning a bible won't get you killed! Bibles get burned around the world regularly. No one notices. Not only does no one notice burning of bibles, they don't notice burning of entire churches, and christians!
He's obviously talking about the freedom to burn a Bible or Qur'an."I do believe that in Canada we are quick to embrace people's expressions of freedom, but burning a Qur'an is no different than burning a Bible," MacKay said Wednesday.
He was, you just took the quote out of context, that is, you weren't keeping things in perspective.Don't get me wrong, I think the burning of the Koran idea is stupid. But let's keep things in perspective here.
It is all over, he had a revelation and thought better of it. He will not burn the Koran.
Our soldiers are going over there and dieing to give another country the liberty and freedoms we enjoy and here we are bending over and giving up our freedom of speech and yes...to burn books even to satisfy the whim of another religion...
Those soldiers must be looking at us in disgust...
Political correctness has taken us to an all time low.
Now if the imam were to show the same good sense all would be well that ends well......but I'm not holding my breath:roll:Buddy had his 15 minutes of fame. Sold a schwack of T-Shirts on the Internet,
& got the name of his book out. Done deal for a self-promotional wad...and he'll
do a bunch of interviews while further plugging his book, etc....
Now if the imam were to show the same good sense all would be well that ends well......but I'm not holding my breath:roll:
And they are in all Religions.....the major difference being that the Imam is reaching out to other religions, and not burning their books to make statements. He is making statements about confronting extremists so that they don't control the messaging...this nutbar in Florida plays exactly into what the Imam said last night. The extemists feed off each other.
We are fighting a war, Yes we are and we have Muslims within our society - So are we fighting all Muslims in our society as well?
