What's your opinion on United States Of America?

Nah, I've travelled to the U.S. as much as the average Canadian and I've not found Americans arrogant- ever. You want arrogance, check out most European countries.
That's because they've had a thousand years to perfect their arrogance. Give north America a few more centuries.

The last I heard it was mostly Mexicans that wanted to emigrate there. The rest is just the same smattering of people that any other G20 countries get emigrating to their respective countries.

The US is the ONLY country in the world that respects your individual rights?
Hardly the only country in the world that does this..... besides, isn't it the US who has the Patriot Act where they can just wave that around and can do pretty much whatever they damn well please, regardless of your rights?
Isn't it the US who's randomly and unjustly rounding people up at airports and borders, detaining those people for however long they please, sending those people off to torture camps..... sorry, "interrogation camps" for months on end without notifying anybody until after the fact of where you are?
Aren't they also the same country that holds "Suspects" without charge outside of their own country to avoid any of their own legal restrictions on what they can do to their prisoners and usually ends up releasing these people without any charges, no apologies or excuses as to why they put these people through all this crap, as if these people are tagged animals being released back into the wild?

In other words, just because a country preaches and boasts 24/7 that they're the greatest nation in the world and respect freedoms and rights for all in some fashion of equality, doesn't actually make it so..... in the end, it's just words.

I haven't read all the posts, but I just have to say, I immigrated to the US from the UK with my family when I was a child. I never liked it, I never fit in because either I wasn't "black enough" because I spoke with an English accent and of course I am a foreigner with brown skin so I don't fit in with anyone else. I live in a "red" state and see that narrow minded, xenophobic, homo-phobic, racist, nationalist, garbage daily.
I think the US has to keep shouting that they are the best country in the world to convince themselves more than convincing other people. Other people see it for what it is all about. I miss the UK with all my heart because it is a great place and it was my home and will be moving to Canada because it is a great place and will be my new home and the people are freaking AWESOME. If the US was so great, I wouldn't have so many Americans wanting me to take them with me....

I agree...enough said. Saying the US is the best country in the world is just an opinion. Everyone is entitled to theirs, but no one is entitled to accept it.
I've noticed that much of the time what a person "sees" in a place is a reflection of him/herself. Most people are quite astute at picking up on people's attitudes. When you think other people are dumb/stupid/prejudiced/intolerant- that is when you are quite likely to be fooled. :smile::smile::smile:
As a matter of interest, how did you end up in Texas, bizzymum? I would have thought you would be more comfortable in some place like New England.
You will find there are similarities between Canada and UK, especially in Ontario and BC.
That is just patriotism speaking, bizzymum. I know of no survey which says that USA is the best country in the world. Most surveys put Canada way over USA.
