just stop hating canadiaans!
wee live under the greatest living conditions here in america!
so f^^k off you idiotss!
:)
How do you know? America is so insulated by it's Government, media and education system that you don't even know how other societies function. Do you even remember that during the invasion of Iraq that nobody in the Bush Administration could even tell you who the insurgency was? They got the answer wrong every time. They had no clue even who they were fighting! Heck, during the first war, most Americans could not even find Iraq on a world map. Remember the Soviet Union during the cold war? Restrict the information reaching the masses and they have no clue how bad things really are.

Could be that some Canadians here are in constant need of reassurance that their the best.

I am talking of international surveys, ironsides. Not surveys carried out by Canada. International surveys, such as UN Human Development Index, consistently put Canada way above USA.

There has been a lot of positives come from the USA over it's lifespan, but I believe with the polarization of the masses, especially in the past 15-20 years, they have really faltered. It has gotten so bad that just look at the lapel fin phase now. God forbid if you should be viewed in the public without your pin, you are front page news in the media, and you have basically flushed your career down the toilet. How ridiculous is that. The land of freedom of expression has become a fallacy. Look at what happened to the long and distinguished career of Helen Thomas because she dared offer an opinion that was contrary to the party line. Whether one agrees with her or not, to me that is totally absurd.

Oh brother. Another expert.

I take it you mean by the lapel pin of the American flag when Obama did not wear one and someone wrote a story on it.

Didn't he become president?

How ridiculous is that.

Too funny

You mean her anti-semetic remark saying the Jewish people of Israel should go back to Germany? The one she apologized for?

She realized her mistake and retired voluntarily. Sometime when we get old, our mouth says things it shouldn't.

I haven't read all the posts, but I just have to say, I immigrated to the US from the UK with my family when I was a child. I never liked it, I never fit in because either I wasn't "black enough" because I spoke with an English accent and of course I am a foreigner with brown skin so I don't fit in with anyone else.
Funny. I thought you were passionate pink, maybe hot pink and looked kind of primrose-ish. :D

I've noticed that much of the time what a person "sees" in a place is a reflection of him/herself. Most people are quite astute at picking up on people's attitudes. When you think other people are dumb/stupid/prejudiced/intolerant- that is when you are quite likely to be fooled.:smile::smile:
lmao And sometimes it (dumb/stupid/etc) just sticks out and smacks you like a herd of stampeding bricks so you have no choice but to think ....... :D

The US is great. Where else in the world can you get 6 beer, a pack of smokes and a heatlamp chili dog for $10?
A real Philly beef & Swiss sandwich, St. Louis baby back ribs, NY pastrami on rye, etc. :D

Could be that some Canadians here are in constant need of reassurance that their the best.
... and whine when someone else thinks they are. :D

World map indicating the Human Development Index (based on 2007 data, published on October 5, 2009) 0.950 and Over 0.900–0.949 0.850–0.899 0.800–0.849 0.750–0.799 0.700–0.749 0.650–0.699 0.600–0.649 0.550–0.599 0.500–0.549 0.450–0.499 0.400–0.449 0.350–0.399 under 0.350 not available

Funny. We look the same to me. The list? Canada 4th place. The USA 13th. Not a big diff considering how many countries there are and that we are both above 0.95. But then exaggeration is your fave tool.

Here I agree with you. In the old days, USA used to be respected universally for its liberal, tolerant attitude towards human rights, minority right. Compared to USA, Canada used to lag way behind. Long after USA had legalized abortion, we in Canada were still imprisoning doctors for performing abortions.

USA, has had liberal Sunday shopping laws for a long time. In many parts of Canada, the so called ‘blue laws’ used to be enforced fanatically, up until a few years ago.

Unfortunately, all that changed with the advent of Reagan and the religious right. Human rights in USA took a huge leap backwards. For the past 20 years USA has been moving steadily to the right, while Canada has been moving steadily to the left when it comes to human rights.

These days of course, Canada is much more liberal, tolerant than USA, on just about every issue. USA lost its leader status in human rights long time ago.

Nuts. Thomas is 90 and has been saying the Israelis should leave Palestine for decades. I think she just realised she's old and decided this pile of stuff (Israel policies) wasn't worth fighting anymore.

I don’t know, I think 4th and 13th is a big difference. And the three countries above Canada also contain Iceland. One really has to question that standing, considering the severe economic problems Iceland has had recently. For a while there the country was practically bankrupt (we are visiting Iceland for two weeks, starting tomorrow, so I will be able to judge it first hand).

Anyway, even if we do accept Iceland’s ranking, no 4 and no 13 is a big difference, in my opinion.

That would completely depend on how much of a difference there is between 4th and 13th place.

One would think that a 'scientist' would know that.

One would expect there to be a reasonable difference between 4th place and 13th place, they are hardly going to be tied.

Is that why the kids of a mixed couple made up of a native male and a caucasian female get status and yet the kids of a native female and a caucasian male don't?

Um, riot in TO during the G20,G8, G92, G47, etc, summit? (Good thing cops don't drive tanks).

Like watching the Boston Marathon - what's the time difference between finishing 4th and 13th place, and as a comparison to the overall spread of results, how meaningful is it?

"one would expect there to be a reasonable difference"... reasonable means what, as compared to the overall range?

I don’t know,
Exactly.

Yeah, there's a massive difference between 0.966 and 0.956.

And the UN's data for the HDI was from 2007. So?

Anyway, even if we do accept Iceland’s ranking, no 4 and no 13 is a big difference, in my opinion.
Yeah, there's a massive difference between 0.966 and 0.956. But you go ahead and believe yourself regardless of the facts.

So are you saying that they carried out the survey in 2007, but reported the results in 2009? That would explain Iceland's high position. It would be interesting to see how Iceland fairs in 2010 or 2011.
