Look, I dislike Harper like most reasonable people do, but - and I hate to say it - in this I actually agree with him. I don't care what you wear after your swearing in ceremony, but when you need to present yourself and prove yourself via facial recognition as to who you are, and you refuse, especially at a swearing in ceremony to the country you choose to go live in, then you aren't ready to be part of this country and as such, perhaps it's best you leave.

I hate that this was decided to be okay because it's not. I can only hope it changes later. Right now fine, let it go, but this really, really needs to be looked into further at a later, post-election date.

The country is going to hell in a hand basket as we fight over who wears what.
This is about emotion not reason when put into the federal election blueprint.
Wish we had a Have another beer party

You got that right, Niqab has absolutely no place in Canada. If they want to be in Canada they should leave that sh*t behind. Christian is our choice of religion. English is our language. In English a "Q" is followed by a "U". I forgot - we have French here too, which I don't mind as long as they keep it east of the Ottawa River.

Your hate of Harper and your paranoia has completely erased your common sense and you can't even see it in your pathetic tunnel world!

A lot of people are in that category. It's a popular position to take these days, one of the traits of sheeple. I prefer to make up my own mind about him. He has his weak points but he's never done me any harm.

Who cares if it's religious or not?

Getting worked up about a piece of cloth on ones face at benign social gatherings is stupid.
and don't forget the gathering may be benign, but it is also boring, until now.

i did 53 seconds of this dude,i could not do anymore then that, please congratulate me for the 53 seconds of demonstrating tolerance,i thought i did well.

I was surfing the net today just to find out that people are still hell bent for leather that the "Niquab" is a non-issue. I'm sorry you may agree with me or disagree with me that is your right. But here is my take on this whole thing...

I don't feel that the Niquab is something that should not be worn, HOWEVER... When being SWORN IN AS A CANADIAN CITIZEN, uncover your face. When I joined the Canadian military, I am most certain that had I have worn a mask to hide my identity, I never would have been sworn in. Quite frankly if I had gone running to the courts or human rights commission, I would have been laughed out of the buildings. So lets make this simple. If you want to become a sworn in citizen of this great country?, UNCOVER YOUR FACE SO WE CAN SEE WHO IS BEING SWORN IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When you go to vote, or get photo for drivers' licenses, UNCOVER YOUR FACE. This isn't rocket science, Just remember, if where you came from, you can vote, get a photo ID, Get sworn in to office etc..... and wear your Niquab? THEN GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE and go back to where life was so much better. The Canadian Bull**** Corporation (CBC) decided to air this today, Oct 7,2015 and I quote... "I would say there is patriarchy and misogyny in all cultures and all religions, across the board," she said. "It's a fallacy to say Muslim women have a particular problem with it. I think that's something the media portrays, which is a bias against Muslim women – as if we're the only ones in the entire world." No you are not the only women in the world, but when you are asking to become part of the CANADIAN population and want to be sworn in as a Canadian, Don't Hide your Identity. There are many other races, religions etc, that have been sworn in as citizens without having to wear the customary dress of the countries they came from... What makes you any different? When my grandparents were sworn in as Canadians they were not wearing kilts. So can someone please explain to me how this "CUSTOM" is such a huge issue? I have many Muslim/Islamic friends, both MALE AND FEMALE... and have been informed that this is NOT a religious rite but a "CUSTOM", Where in the charter of RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS does it say and CUSTOMS? In short, I say if you don't like it, you can leave, nobody here asked you to come.

what year did you join the canadian army,1932?

Its an emotional issue and because of the Quebec debate and the whole 5 minutes of the 2 hour debate was spent on this. The media is making it sound like Harper is Hitler or something and has made it into such a big deal. While there are other, major matters that need to be discussed and should be discussed, in every scrum guess what the media-idiots ask about - the bloody niquab! As far as I'm concerned, it should be disallowed period - end of discussion. Now, about the economy or TPP, pipelines lets have a discussion.

Why have these women left the countries to come to Canada? Why are we suddenly "obliged" to cater to their whims? It just doesn't make sense. I don't care if there's 1 or 1 million, when it comes to ID faces must be shown - period. You want to wear the bloody sack the rest of the time - go to it! Simple.

Perhaps we should be electing you for Prime Minister! A working brain is an asset we need in this country.

It's such a raging nontroversy. But as long as it keeps people's minds off significant issues. . .

As I said before, we've taught you well.

It really is 'the lowest common denominator' Politics at it's best and I give a big thumbs up to Lynton Crosby for encouraging the various CONS who have spoken out about the 'Muslim' issue in the last month.

I don't think the CONS would have had the courage to go that route but obviously Lynton convinced them otherwise and the payoff is no one is talking about the other issues, and may I say, failures of the Harper regime.

Lynton is brilliant for recognizing and encouraging the Shiny Trojan Pony in the room.......

Only two women are known to have decided not to go through with the ceremony because of the ban.

So just what are these perceived failures of the Harper regime? He got rid of our repressive gun control laws. Got enough people POed at the Senate we might actually get it abolished. Eliminated some of the red tape preventing industry in this country. About the only thing he hasn't fixed is eliminating official bilingualism yet. Hopefully next term.

forget all the personal opinions, emotional content, law is trump, and if there are no laws which force or correct behaviour regarding this matter, then you can not impose rules and regulations which are made up as you go.
all you "progressive thinkers"should phone your Conservative MP and demand this be made law, better yet give your money to the progressive conservatives during this election and attach your wishes to the cash.

and while you are phoning your conservative MP for this issue of Niquab, maybe you want to line up with the anti-abortionists for a rally,or something like that and don't forget to sponsor your MP's election platforms, give lots of cash, your issue can be fast tracked.
Invite your Conservative candidate to your place of worship for some relevations, don't think small, keep on your conservative MP.for keeping Canada pure.
all in the name of ,Amen

This is Canada and they should just be bloody grateful for a peaceful country to live in and assimilate with Canadians. Let them wear a rag on their face and next thing they'll want a welfare cheque every month and free medical and dental. They should be told, if you don't like it just F**K off back to the old country.
