Today as we speak there is 300 crew members taken hostage on 7 deferent ships. These are 18-19 year old boys looking to get out of doomed poverty. What could solve the problem is to base the military and insure law and order. The military would have the right to use subs to pick the locations of these kid pirates, traveling at night, and prepare assaults on ships.
The big black market of guns available in many regions of Africa make this look easy, unregistered, with out a trace.

The last time the U.N. was there, they lost and were driven out. If the Somali goverment could be trusted to do the job without themselves arming the pirates, that maybe the better idea. They did offer.

What a useless country Holland is when it comes to protecting merchant trading routes from pirates. They break up a piracy in progress and because they have no laws against it, they turn the pirates lose. Extreme liberalism in action.

Yep, maybe Holland would be better off if they just stuck to the legalized hooking business.

It looks like another ship has been taken, this time a Belgian one. It's time to go on the offensive isn't it?:-?

Have not had time to read up on this at the start I caught a good article on the situation.. It seems the French and US Navy have been trying as hard as they can to keep this from getting worse they have been unsuccessful. These Somalians seem to have this down to a fine art and have captured some darn big ships with the small speed boats they use to attack..

The article pointed out that the Somalis play a game of battle ships with it equivalent to the small little ship in a big ocean hard to spot and even harder to hit.. Turning the battle ships the Navies have there is virtually impossible to run after those speed boats so it is a hard win unless you can sink one..

A faster strategy will be required...

And they held an unarmed man hostage. I feel no sympathy for them at all. You reap what you sow.

Ain't it the truth? When the reaping begins for western crimes against humanity we will see how faithful you are to the old truism. We will have cause to reflect on those words that bind us to the beauty of natural just deserts. I don't think we have long to wait before we are made to hoist that bitter draught to our lips. Next winter will kill many Canadians I think. Maybe Orwell did not imagine the scope of his prescience.

That was sure neat the way those guys were taken out. Just would envy the poor bastard who had to clean up the mess. Bet the 16 year old gives some serious thought to a career change.
A little sniping here and there. Yup it was cool. And here, Missile and others were snivelling about nothing being done. lol
Betcha pirates would think twice about their careers if people lobbed rockets and lead back at them. If there were a dozen military sorts on board a ship with a few inflatables capable of doing 20 knots, pirates would be in a twist. Especially after 4 tourists armed with a shotgun put the run on a couple or 3 boats of pirates. Even squashed one boat.

I never thought the day would arrive when the USA would allow the kidnapping of one of its citizens in full view of American warships.I understand they still feel the repercutions of the Black Hawk Down mission, but Bush would have sent troops in..no matter what. Obama is now seen as a weak leader.

Is Canada any different? Seems Canada has that same stupid law the Dutch do.
The pirates cannot be prosecuted under Canadian law because they did not attack Canadian citizens or interests and the crime was not committed on Canadian territory.

They can always be tried under international law, piracy is against the law.

This is true.

Pirates are considered a enemies of humanity under international law, lol...

Any vessel partaking in the act of piracy may be acted up on, no matter the flag she sails under.

The issue with regards to failing to act against them stems from issues of 'asylum'. Many nations are weary of capturing pirates, for fear they may claim asylum. Under constitutional provisions of nations patrolling the high seas, ie: Britain, Canada, Holland, captured criminals are oft not returned to their home states because summary execution, mutilation or other brutalities may be the sentence for piracy.

So what do we do with them?

Try and jail them with our money?

I say just blow them out of the water, but that makes for bad press and we all know how the morally bankrupt fringe left love that kind of media fodder.
