Israel Felau, a top Australian Rugby Union player, was banned yesterday from representing Australia in the Rugby Union World Cup this year and has had his contract terminated by his professional team in Australia for expressing the opinion that the practice of homosexuaity will lead those individuals to hell without repentance on their part.
Folau is an Evangelical Christian who was expressing the literal Biblical proscriptions of sodomy that have been in the Christian catechis.. Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant.. for 2 millennia. Homosexuality in all is defined as intrinsically disordered in orientation, gravely sinful in practice, and a manifest social evil. It is a mortal sin; that is those that put a person’s salvation in imminent jeopardy without repentance and redemption. It is also one that is within the all persons capability and responsibility to resist.
It is a complete capitulation by Rugby Australia to the pc zeitgeist that has a choke hold on the approved opinions of athletes; even those founded of devout religious belief. There is no separation here between church and sport in the Rugby Football Union. The dictate is to conform to the most transient and temporal of approved opinion; those founded on the modern idolatry of moral relativism, radical individualism, atheistic humanism. At one time there was wall between politics and sports. Religious and political opinions were held as something that could be debated in the public arena and not on the field of play.
I’m hoping for some kind of coordinated response by the players. One player has used social media to express support for Folau and has been called before the disciplinary board of the RFU and several active Rugby Union players twittered their approval. I think a mass resignation from the Australian national team would be appropriate, or, a fan or sponsor boycott. But given the tyranical use of sanctions i think the most likely outcome they will bow to intimidation and do nothing for religious persecution.

Did you read the post. The persecution is not directed at homosexuals on the part of us 'homophobes'. It's on Christians who have expressed any sentiments in support of the natural and divine law on which Western Civilization is built. I have not called for the silencing of the homosexual lobby. I've never called for the reinstitution of criminal sanctions against homosexual activity. The same for adultery, fornication, masturbation or any private sexual acts between consenting adults; even though all of these have profoundly destructive individual, familial and societal consequences. I'm quite willing to engage in an open and fair debate without prejudice or rancor.
But what the RFU has done here is dictated that any declaration of the moral laws that have informed our society for 2 millennia, are now deemed 'hate' speech for which there will be NO 'tolerance'. There is no sense of separation of church and pitch. Except that is so not true. You CONTINUALLY state homosexuality is a sin.
By saying that, you automatically show your prejudice against it. No matter how many times it's pointed out to you that you can have your opinion, but just stop trying to insist that people follow your belief, you keep saying being gay is morally evil etc, etc. That's not being open to discussion.

Yes, because those words incite HATRED towards a group of people for simply being who they ARE. It's against the HYPOCRISY of preaching love and tolerance one moment, then saying homosexuality is a sin and should be outlawed the other.

Our society has also had OTHER laws - religious and otherwise - for longer than 2 millennia. Why are these past 2 more special than any other time?

There have been changes for sure. In my dad's parish, there is a priest who was divorced before he got the "calling". In the Greek Catholic Church, priests can be married; we have one in Kelowna who has a wife and kids. I personally do not know why priests can't marry in the RCC - it makes no sense to me. Maybe way back when..... Doesn't seem to be an issue with other religions.....
And finally, I do not see why a woman cannot be ordained a priest either especially since there is a shortage of priests. Married + women = more priests.

The stone cold fact is that the practice of homosexuality is a mortal sin. No amount of sophistry on your part will ever change that. Before we got engulfed in the maelstrom of moral relativism of the 60s no one thought of it as anything else. It is in this historical blip of the last 50 years of a society racked with confusion, hedonism and reckless indifference that the type of meaningless nonsense you spout became predominant.
I haven't called for the ouytlawing of homosexuality, but I resent it being taught as a valid 'lifestyle' to children as if it won't lead to a life of futility and misery. This will ruin lives. I don't teach 'hate'; I profess faith. And all real faiths preach an absolute moral code.
They also preach repentence and redemption of a loving God. The notion that this has become a quaint anachronism, or worse that it means there are no rules and no consequences, is the sign of society ensnared in the Culture of Death and is careening towards a violent reckoning.. unlike anything we've seen before.

If you call yourself a Christian, then you are breaking the laws set forth by your church. There is nothing in the bible or in the teachings of Jesus that says anything about homosexuality.
