you discounted half the city, how is it I'm splitting hairs?

First you claimed I did not include the south, then when I pointed out that I did include the south, your change your tune to and say I included places not in the flood zone..

You're just being a troll now..

Jee-zuz! Why don't you both take a stroll down to the river and lob in a sandbag or two - from the membership. We'll call it CC's contribution to the flood relief effort

Did that yesterday, was helping folks get stuff out of their homes.. what you didn't see the photos and what I stated??

I even gave out sandwiches and juice to homeless sitting on the street. Seems Edmonton Trail has become a refuge to the homeless effected by the flood. (they are sitting in store fronts)

If I buy an established home, I generally trust that city planning and infrastructure knows/knew more about the safety of the area than I do. I'm not gonna bash on people who put similar trust in a city.

The bottom line: the city couldn'd resist a quick buck.

I just got off the phone wth my bro. My niece wants to come home to finish her degree at UofR in fear of the rent gouging that is already starting to hit. She gave notice at the end of June for the end of the month before the flood and now won't be able to find anything.

Yup, excellent advise.. that's a great area to live and not far from Nose Hill Park..

Except for the massive grass fires that run through Nose Hill every 4-5 years

Basically anything south of Memorial and downtown is where the problem is..

The vast majority of South Calgary had zero flooding... A handful of neighbourhoods along the Bow in the SE and the immediate communities along the Elbow just off of downtown got nailed.... But like Gerry said, hardly anyone in South Calgary was impacted

Unfortunately, the 'Big flood plain' runs from Crescent heights bluff to Bankview....

Calgary Stampede 2013: Hell Or High Water

Well, it will most likely have to overcome high water as opposed to hell, but The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth will go on this year. When you see video of Calgary Flood devastation you wonder how it’s all possible, then you remember this is Calgary.

It will look different, but it will go on. And that’s a damn good thing.

It’s about community spirit. It’s about not giving in. It’s about showing the world we know how to ‘cowboy up’ and ‘git’er done.’

ok then

No, the Winnipeg type diversion is not possible with the Calgary layout.
We are just going to have to live with what we have. But with proper planning its possible to minimize the damage. It shouldn't happen to often,,,,hopefully !!

Oh , dear 'God's littler Eagle':

TEXAS, that' haven of Atheist Socialism" has crash barrages on all its major rivers UPSTREAM of its' major metro areas. OF course we can't protect Calgary with 'diversion ditches. We CAN with flood control structures.- IN the Canyons. UPSTREAM>

DURRY- please- no more ........

If the Stampede Board and City can pull it off, it will be a stroke of marketing genius.

On a related note: Step outside and take a look at the moon tonight.

It's spectacular.

... Everything is gonna be OK

Looks like they lost already.. - not a great slogan for this incident.

Wouldn't it make a hell of a lot more sense just to postpone it for a month, it's not like there is going to be any more important venues tying up the facilities?

They don't duck, they just don't offer flood policies to people in areas of high risk.
It's not only "don't offer flood policies to people in areas of high risk", it's any home owner. Insurance doesn't cover 'overland' floodwaters. (comes in through windows, doors, cracks in foundation). Only if the 'water' comes up through sewage drains. I found that out the hard way.
