Hi Boomer- My sister and nephew are moving to Calgary later this week and will be renting in the area near Sarcee Trail and Stoney Trail. I've advised them that area would be fairly safe. Did I give her good advice?

Yup, excellent advise.. that's a great area to live and not far from Nose Hill Park..

Basically anything south of Memorial and downtown is where the problem is..

Also, they will be a skip and a jump to CrossIron Mills shopping center.. you can get lost in there for days.. lol

Hidden Valley, Calgary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Great area.. they have lots of shops and a Costco in that area.. very upscale, good area to raise a family, new parks for kids and schools..the construction is based on the family unit..

Some of the most expensive real estate in the city is up around that area now..

I would have suggested Airdrie, it's just a 15 minute from to the north end of Calgary. I'm looking to buy a condo in Airdrie..

Build a Bear is B00Mer's favourite shop in Crossiron. Right B00Mer.

Bass Pro Shop
.. you got it..

You're a real wag there, Petros. Actually they found it through a rental site on line.
Ever since google maps came along, things haven't been the same in Hidden Valley.

ummmm..no.... anything built on the flood plain is the problem.

Oh, I know I just love "pulling his chain", it's hard to have fun with Gerry in the normal sense, it's all black or white, there's no room for banter. Life is too short for that bullsh*t! -:)

I have no problem bantering with people with at least half a brain and with appropriate topics

Its important to remember that we are not part of your anger management focus group GH.

What you post should stand on its own merits, not on 'anyone elses'

Your kidding right?
If not for these oilsands, and the province of Alberta, Canada would be in dire straights. I do not like Alberta, but I am certainly not going to blame the oilsands entirely on climate change or this flooding. That would be radical thinking.
These oilsands/fields etc, employ a lot of people, in and out of this province, and not just in Fort Mac, but all over.
I never kid about climate change and how David, Al, and Barrack are the gods we should follow.

Which is where the flood plain is for the Calgary area.. keep up, we are talking about the best place to live in the City of Calgary.

Now if he asked about the best place to live in Alberta... I would have clarified my answer to read stay away from flood plains, look for high ground.. river beds are not a great place to build or live.

and your statement discounted the entire south.

Really??

Basically anything south of Memorial and downtown is where the problem is..

Memorial Drive sorta separates north and south of Calgary.. if you look at a map of Calgary you can see anything south of Memorial Drive is a flood plain and currently under water.. ;)

Really? I live south of memorial drive and the water hasn't been any where near me. Most of my friends live in the SE and none have been effected by the flood. Less than 10% of the population were evacuated out. That means 90% of the population was not effected and they don't all live north of memorial drive like you.

You're trying to split hairs in your typical ranting style.. you really do live a lonely life..
