I really don't like gerryh, I thing he's a rude, crass and is off his meds with 90% of his posts..

But in this case I think what he was referring to by "end of the line," is from Los Angeles everything is dumped into the ocean.. the run off will not effect other communities down stream, as with Calgary, it's already effecting Medicine Hat.

Calgary's Katrina is going cost the government and taxpayers billions.. Insurance companies are already planning on raising rates to cover their loses.

This is so, so sad.. today I met a gentlemen climbing stairs up the hill to his vehicle, his home below and the parking stall had 10 feet of water in it.. for me that really hit home.. as amazing the pictures are of all the destruction and natures force, there are real people in serious hardship because of this.. and talking to them and feeling their pain is maybe the best way to understand this tragedy better.

The water will recede, and people will forget about those that truly need the help, because everything will be cleaned up and people do have short memories.

Oh, I know I just love "pulling his chain", it's hard to have fun with Gerry in the normal sense, it's all black or white, there's no room for banter. Life is too short for that bullsh*t! -:)

Climate change obviously caused by the oil sands exploitation. Gaia is wreaking vengeance.
Your kidding right?
If not for these oilsands, and the province of Alberta, Canada would be in dire straights. I do not like Alberta, but I am certainly not going to blame the oilsands entirely on climate change or this flooding. That would be radical thinking.
These oilsands/fields etc, employ a lot of people, in and out of this province, and not just in Fort Mac, but all over.

EXTREME born again fundies like Durry need to be, AHEM , taught slowly about science.

A hundred year storm does not mean' God will NOT send it again!!!!!! next year.
IT is A PREDICTION OVER TIME..

Because we historically move through wet /dry cycles, its is actually more likely to show up next year.

BUT if you BLUSTER out 'beeg talkin' words' like ' S-deviation' with only a vague logic link, you can sound sort of rational -
- RIGHT durry?

I hope that soldiers will not help people to protect their houses from flooding. It's not their job.
We learned that in Quebec in may 2011.

Ken King, President of the Calgary Flames addressed the media today. The Saddle Dome is a complete write-off from the 8th level down and sits under 15 feet of water. Dressing rooms, kitchen, memorabilia, all mechanical equipment and electronics except the jumbotron - gone. Any assessment of structural damage will have to wait until the water can be pumped out. The next scheduled event for the Dome was to take place during the Stampede due to get underway on July 5th - the Stampede grounds themselves are also underwater.

Well- Moving the Stampede Grounds was long overdue, and building the Saddledome in a flood zone was. 'ahem' DUMB'.

MIGHT AS WELL BITE THE BULLET.

"Les Flambes"??

Heck, this is ALBERTA. the Flames & the Saddledome are privately owned by rich people. We will pay out of the public purse FIRST to fix the place.

Hi Boomer- My sister and nephew are moving to Calgary later this week and will be renting in the area near Sarcee Trail and Stoney Trail. I've advised them that area would be fairly safe. Did I give her good advice?

That puts them in the uplands, so yep- good advice.
Just make sure that they aren't in an area of filled in marshland. I have one acquaintance who's daughter had a half above ground half basement apartment - in a marsh fill.

Six feet of water. No insurance. Rest of the building stinks.
Oh- in Calgary - rent only in concrete construction. When I lived in the continental towers, we had a late night 'revenge fire bombing'. Being concrete, it stopped in one suite....

Alberta flooding history

CALGARY (June 1897) Bow River rises about five metres turning downtown into a lake, washing out bridges, short-circuiting electricity and cutting Canadian Pacific's line to Vancouver.

CALGARY (June 1915) The Bow washes away Centre Street Bridge, nearly drowning two city officials. Sheep Creek floods Okotoks and cuts gas mains, leaving Calgarians without cooking fuel.

CALGARY (June 1923) The Elbow River breaks the 1915 record by 20 centimetres when it rises to 2.9 metres. The Bow River, though it rises 1.5 metres above normal, is still about .6 metres under the 1915 record height.

They need to rename their list Southern Alberta flooding history or Calgary Area. There has been flooding north of Red Deer...
