It's all speculation...but I would guess that the frog wasn't buried deep enough. I don't know how much travelling those lakers do.
Lake trout go deep, frogs go deep to avoid the lethal cold temperatures. Lake trout are still feeding, but just barely at 4 degrees. The water at the bottom of lakes is about 4 degrees, water is most dense at 4 degrees, and there is an inversion in the temperature profile in lakes as the water warms/cools. So, it probably found the frog down in the soft substrate.
fraid I am feeling a touch jaded of late and seem to have lost my "need" to "educate". I no longer even have fun "trolling" or pointing out the "trolls".
