Re: Giuliani confirms order to carry out a 'Muslim Ban'

Muslim travel ban: Winners, losers, and the rest of us

Adult supervision, in the form of a federal judge in Seattle, has temporarily restored sanity to our immigration laws after nine hectic days. Caught in mid-travel, the assortment of legal visa holders affected by the Muslim travel ban provided a snapshot of the United States’ sophisticated and often productive relationships with the seven singled-out countries.

President Trump’s executive order blocked graduate students, professors, scientists, mothers and children, a wide departure from cartoonish view the president promotes of Muslim terrorists waltzing through the turnstiles of our international airports. Petulant, and obviously a sore loser, Trump tweeted yesterday that horrible events from “very many bad and dangerous people” could occur because of the judge’s ruling. It was among most unpresidential things he has said in his brief term, and easily among the silliest.

Here’s where we are now: the visa revocations have been reportedly reversed by the State Department and a temporary restraining order issued by a Seattle judge Friday night now apparently guarantees that anyone who had a valid visa or green card to enter the US can do so. The Department of Justice appealed the order but early on Sunday a federal court denied the government request to reinstate Trump’s refugee and travel ban.

The intensity of the past week served as a civics refresher but also as a preview of what’s surely to come: Trump will continue to challenge the check and balances of power. The good guys won round one, but as this conflict displayed, the power of the presidency is difficult to combat. As the dust settles from the Muslim ban, here are some winners and losers:

The judiciary: The framers of the Constitution were careful to install an independent judiciary, and we were reminded why this week. “The courts standing up to this order have reminded us that our democracy depends on judges following the law and making sure the President follows the law,” said David Leopold, former president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. “The judges concluded, almost uniformly, that Trump pretty likely violated the law and the constitution” with this executive order, Leopold says.

Civil liberties attorneys, the ACLU: Lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union responded to the chaos unleashed by the executive order by putting up a great fight. “The people who understand the law are not better than anybody else,” said Matthew Segal, legal director of the ACLU of Massachusetts. “But it is all the more clear for those who do law for a living how much of a threat the Trump administration is.”

Re: Trump's Executive Order Remains in Place

I have long wondered why Saudi Arabia is so valued by every Administration from Bush to Obama and now Trump and probably before.
They say Saudi Arabia is an important ally. How, I wonder is it an ally? What does it do for America or the rest of the free world?
At one time I thought it was about getting oil from them, Then maybe they had some strategic advantage to the U.S military in the Mid-East.
But none of that really makes sense. Saudi Arabia support terrorists. It has the worst human rights record in the world. It is rich beyond imagination but contributes none of its riches toward the rest of the world. It doesn't take in refugees of its own faith.
So how is it an ally?

Jim Rickards has an interesting take on this relationship in several of his interviews. He was involved in discussions with the Kissinger administration in the early 70's which resulted in an agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia during the creation of the petrodollar. In order to attain stable global oil prices during that time when oil was fluctuating greatly, the Saudis agreed to price oil in US dollars in exchange for the US protecting the House of Saud and Saudi Arabia's national security from hostile forces in the middle east region.

This deal was respected by subsequent administrations right up to Obama, when he out and out betrayed Saudi Arabia with his red line in the sand bullsh*t regarding Syria, allowing Iran to continue with their pursuit of Nuclear technology, and other policies which have contributed to overall destabilizing the region. Wouldn't you know it...coincidentally oil prices have been unstable and dropping since 2008...about the time Obama became Prez.

Nah, Bethlehem and Nazareth are in Israel. Trump hasn't turned on Jews yet. I think first they came for the socialists and trade unionists.

Nazareth is but Bethlehem isn't. Bethlehem is in the Golan Heights portion of the Palestinian Authority.

Ah, the ban doesn't include Palestine anyway. But since Jesus is a refugee there might be need for some extreme vetting.

Oh and I should mention, this means Trump broke a law and will be impeached.

Ann Coulter Verified account ‏@AnnCoulter

If GOP is worth anything, they'd impeach wacko Judge Robart, who claims to run entire nation's immigration policy from his courtroom.

Trumpites hate the rule of law. Sniffity sniffty sniff.

If GOP is worth anything, their top leaders wouldn't have been bullied aside by a recycled Democrat

Are suggesting Donny is a New York City liberal?

So you finally admit to racism.....

Oops...that's embarrassing.

Travelers arrive in US to hugs and tears after ban is lifted

Love always wins.

Travelers arrive in US to hugs and tears after ban is lifted

BOSTON - Travellers from the seven predominantly Muslim countries targeted by President Donald Trump enjoyed tearful reunions with loved ones in the U.S. on Sunday after a federal judge swept the ban aside.

Airlines around the world allowed people to board flights as usual to the United States. One lawyer waiting at New York's Kennedy Airport said visa and green-card holders from Iraq and Iran were encountering no problems as they arrived.

"It's business as usual," said Camille Mackler, of the New York Immigration Coalition.

Fariba Tajrostami, a 32-year-old painter from Iran, came through the gate at Kennedy with a huge smile and tears in her eyes as her brothers greeted her with joyful hugs.

"I'm very happy. I haven't seen my brothers for nine years," she said.

Tajrostami had tried to fly to the U.S. from Turkey over a week ago but was turned away.

"I was crying and was so disappointed," she said. "Everything I had in mind, what I was going to do, I was so disappointed about everything. I thought it was all over."

Tajrostami said she hopes to study art in the U.S. and plans to join her husband in Dallas soon. He moved from Iran six months ago, has a green card and is working at a car dealership.

Similar scenes played out across the U.S. two days after a judge in Washington state suspended the president's travel ban and just hours after a federal appeals court denied the Trump administration's request to set aside the ruling.
