Only in Dodge city or Mogadishu. If you live in such an unreasonably high crime place, moving is an option, too.

I always said if you want to buy a gun, the gun-shop guy should put it on the counter and say "Here's the test. Put your right hand on the gun and your left hand on your dick." If you get it wrong, you either don't know left from right, or you don't know your gun from your dick. In neither case should you own a gun.

Meh, the hell with the phone. Shotguns are perfect for home defense. Don't need great aim, especially in the dark, and you can always use it to bludgeon the sh*t out of an intruder.

Yes of course!! There is a fence around my pool, and gates that lock automatically every time someone passes through with the latches out of reach of those under 4 feet. No one swims alone. It cannot be accessed directly from the house and no toys until a person can swim. I do swim alone since I live alone, but my phone is on the edge of the pool.

And exactly how many times, have you ever had occasion to use one against a gun toting criminal? You do not live in the US and very few Canadians ever encounter a gun toting criminal.

OPD officers take 19 crime guns off Orlando streets in July

In its continuing commitment to dramatically reduce the number of crime guns on the streets of Orlando, OPD officers seized 19 crime guns and made 22 arrests in proactive traffic stops during the month of July.

Among those arrested were at least five convicted felons (one was out on bond on a felony murder charge) and at least five juveniles.

Four of the guns recovered by officers had been reported stolen, either in Orlando or Orange County, and two more had serial numbers scratched off – a felony charge in itself.

“These guns are often stolen, then used to commit violent crimes such as armed robbery, aggravated battery and sometimes even homicide,” said Orlando Police Deputy Chief Robert Pigman. “Every crime gun that we remove from the streets makes it safer for citizens and police.”
From Jan. 1 – July 31 of this year, 359 crime guns have been seized by Orlando Police. That a nearly 25 percent increase over the number of crime guns that had been removed from the streets in the same time period last year (288).
In all of 2014, 545 crime guns were seized. A crime gun is one that is used or possessed in the commission of a crime, is stolen or otherwise illegally obtained or possessed.

But what if hubby is not with me? Any dude'll do? Some dude's might object to that in public. Dude's wife sure would not be impressed favourably either.

Erm, we have one shotgun here. It is 12 ga. full choke. Choke determines the "spray" and full choke means that in 3 meters, the pattern might be 6 cm with a couple speckles outside the main pattern. Still a pretty good chance of missing. Besides that, the barrel alone is 0.8 meters. Add 40 cm to that for action and buttstock and you have a very long object to try to maneuver around in what may be a tight area and a baseball bat would work better for bludgeoning anyways. We'll stick to the sidearms. Hubby has a Eagle in .50 700 gr and I can shoot it but it is a heavy piece. Mine's .357 180gr. Lots of splat there.
But we really don't think about invasions much because with two overly excitable and noisy border collies, we'd have plenty warning of an intruder and most likely the intruder would disappear quickly after hearing the dogs.

Really. I so agree. So our present state of laws seems to be working quite well and we have little to fear from turning into those nasty, blood-thirsty, hair-triggered, short-fused, and itchy-fingered monsters south of the border. hehe So why do you continually try comparing Canada to the USA?
