When the government say something especially "If you are not with us........." you can be sure the are trying to ram something down our throats that they already know we would not like. Also can we trust them that extra latitude will not be taken?
Do not vote Tory.
Any time they trot out the with us or against us line, you know they are so full of it they need to
be in jail.
Dear Mr Toews:
Please go fukify yourself. You should be ashamed of this idiocy, this 'you're either in full agreement with this idiotic measure, or you support child pornography' ****. Anyone with a half a brain (which therefore means anyone not sitting in government) knows that this is a stupid comment from a moronic collection of assholes. That **** might play well on Sun media television, when they're not sucking you off for government grants, but really, shut the fuk up.
Sez who? Calling attention to political stupidity is never a bad thing. Toews deserved
to get called on that blunder.
Did Bush ever have a "great" moment???
I am not overly keen on giving them all this power to view people's online activities, but that does not mean I support child pornography. Why do politicians always seem to put their feet in their mouths?
Why is it, that ever since Bush did his "you're either with us or with the terrorist" speech, everything is now a "you're either with us or with _______!"
People, that statement was not one of Bush's greatest moments! Stop using it!
What an outrage, first of all the bastar*ds came after seniors pensions and watering down
medicare and now its the turn of privacy and personal security. This is a George Bush
mentality either you are with us or against us and in sympathy with child porn people. This
is creeping fascism and I use the word carefully. Fascism is a nasty item but this is social
conservatism on the ugly side.
We are going to spy on you, and if you resist we will label you with a disgusting term to shame
you into agreeing with us. I think this government is on the way to its own destruction with its
brazier ideas and proclamations. These are nasty people with the idea that democracy is a
good thing but only if it is convenient. People had better wake up and soon or it will be a long
struggle to regain our freedom.
..... During the 2004 election campaign, the Conservatives issued and then quickly withdrew a press release suggesting then-prime minister Paul Martin supports child pornography because his government wasn’t, in the eyes of Conservatives, sufficiently tough on crime.
When confronted by reporters, Mr. Harper refused to back down. “I'm not going to, in any way, give the Liberal Party any break in its record on child pornography,” the Conservative Leader maintained. “It is disgraceful, they have had multiple opportunities to do something about it, and they have refused.”.....
Must have... He has kids doesn't he?
I think there are ways to catch the child deviants without going after everyone for everything.
Its like shooting a criminal in the street. Yup we shot ten people and one of them was the
bad guy we were trying to catch. Its that kind of dubious logic that allows Harper (Snidely Whiplash)
to get away with this kind of crap. Its the same kind of nonsense that George Bush used to set
America on becoming the newest police state on the planet.
America used to be about hope and promise and is now under the cloud of Fear and spying on one
another. The McCarthy era is returning to the front page. People are subjecting themselves to the
fear of criminals, terrorists, pedophiles and any number of deviants The problem is they are so
paralyzed by fear they have forgotten to live. We are hell bent on going down the same road even
though we know how the story ends and it does not end well.
The fact remains the government is stealing our freedoms one at a time and they will make us pay
until we do something about it. I have nothing to hide either but the thought of people spying on us
is the same as when someone breaks into your home or car and steals personal property and this
law has the potential to do the same thing metaphorically.
I don't think you are getting the implications here. It is a draconian law that is ambiguous enough to be misused in the hands of assholes that say crap like "you are either with us or agin us". I remember back in the 70s reading an article titled "If you Liked 1984, you will Love 1973(?) Technology has jumped by leaps and bounds and now we will see Big Brother far beyond Orwell's worst nightmares. Harpo is just cueing us up for the finale. like I said before, stock up on Vaseline.I kind of think that what he wants to be able to do and what he will actually do are two very different things. I'm guessing 99% of us will never be a subject of scrutiny, but if say a couple of reports come in about Joe Blow at 999 Main St. is suspected of nefarious activities, the authorities can jump on it in a matter of minutes and apprenhend the guy without a whole pile of red tape, that just costs the 99% a pile money, it's a good thing.
That "with us or against us" stuff is a biblical reference, Luke 11:23, quoting Jesus. In the KJV it's "He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth." A bankrupt idea if I've ever heard one, no room allowed for legitimate disagreement. And anybody who thinks authorities will use this only to track down the purveyors of kiddie porn doesn't understand the fascist mindset. They'll use it to track down anybody who disagrees with them.
Serryah is not saying for people to not call out politicians, but for politicians to not use statements similar to the one attributed to Bush.
Bus had great moments?
The problem is that you or I or someone else can inform them that Joe Blow on main street
is up to some nasty stuff because we don't like him and they will turn his life upside down.
Screwed again. Not in the good way. And the ignorant will not perceive any danger until they're caught in it themselves, then they'll howl bloody murder but continue to vote Tory anyway because they can't perceive any connection between things a government does and the quality of their lives.Bang on, Dexter. But, where does that leave us?
