An incompetent POTUS will hurt the US economy. A totally clueless POTUS will drag the whole North American economy down with it.
Well stated. (and accurately described

Funny how tru;;mpians just don't get it. Are they so blinded by his MONEY?? ......that they ignore HOW he got it, and the fact he started out with a truckload of cash from daddy. ?? They ignore the fact the he is a lousy businessman.......and has been bankrupt at least twice. His "company" has abused its employees and other dysfunctional, immoral and borderline illegal conduct. And they accept verbal behavior that is gross, tactless, rude, garsih, stupid , inconsistent, and bellicose?? Don't the Trumpians have ANY standards left???

His attitude to NAFTA is evidence of his dysfunctionality., He is the extreme of SELFISHNESS. He cares little about a FAIR deal....... and could care less who he hursts. He seems to enjoy other persons' and nations discomfort and anxiety.............and even fear.with a degree of cruelty that befits a tyrant.

They totally ignore the "character" of the man......... when if a democrat was like him and id what he does the Right would b e having apoplexy. crying fowl at every turn.

Begs the question of: why do the right hold the left to a much higher standard than they do themselves?? Why does the right grant itself latitudes that they would never alllow with a democrat.??

The worst part is his willingness to cut off America's nose to spite its face. Seriously, he's so hell bent on punishing other countries for some perceives slight that he's prepared to hurt his own people as long as it hurts the other country too.

In fact, I think that's where the present POTUS fails big time. Let's look at the US and Mexico. It's pretty much inevitable, given the US' wealth and Mexico's poverty, that Mexico will benefit more from free trade than the US and hurt more from protectionism from the US. Because of that, the POTUS supports protectionism against Mexico with glee because however much it might hurt the US economy, he takes pleasure from the knowledge that his actions hurt the Mexican economy even more.

Unfortunately, due to Canada's small population and low density compared to the US, we're in the same boat, with Canada inevitably benefiting more from free trade and hurting more from protectionism from the US. As a result, in the POTUS' little mind, it's better that both countries suffer as long as Canada suffers more than that both countries benefit if that means Canada benefits more.

The problem with the present potus has little to nothing to do with him being left or right. I'd take any competent right or left candidate of strong character, since I could be reassured that his competence and, most importantly his character (since he can always develop his competence if necessary) would moderate him. No character, no moderation of insanity.

Of course they are going to have to impose tariffs.

Trump just gifted the 1% a trillion dollars?

It has to be made up somehow.

Marvelous ost. Capture the essence well.

Perhaps the "right" left vernacular does not fit here. Perhaps it is just TRumpianism vs RATIONALITY. good sense and sanity.

I too would accept competence, a sound knowledge base, Intelligent, ( rational problem solving skills) diplomatic and verbal skills, and quality strategic thinking in a POTUS. The R or L factor is not even significant. It is the qualifications and the skills.

The trumpian America first platitudes is rearing its ugly side.......which had to happen. There seems to be no "mutual benefits" in Trumpo world.... UNLESS it is someone he favors........which makes him as biased , and showing favoritism in ways that are counterproductive./negative. and rather petulant. (not a quality for a leader)

But they sure like the tax cuts ,raises and salt.
Indeed.......but that is the SELFISH & short sighted aspect of the population. They are not even considering the larger picture ........and they don't really care with trump does to the rest of the planet....................Then when something happens........they wonder why they are despised by others ......as if they don't contribute to their own negative consequences.

Will tell you my theory about the tax cuts........ it is like a bribe. a financial bribe. Meanwhile who is benefiting the MOST??? Which % tile group??

(an analogy of sorts)....REmember when Alberta was in it boom.........under the blue eyed sheik?? Instead of investing money in clean energy, & the future they gave each Alberta resident something like 400. in cash ( sharing the wealth so to speak)and now they are having a big problem. No one wants anything to d o with their dirty oil if they can help it.........What they did was a short term benefit.ONLY and the population loved it...... )

There is a lot more than 1% living off the taxpayer.

See that is why many of us like The Donald: He makes fools like you crazy. Highly entertaining to see you get your little girl panties all twisted in a knot over the leader of a foreign country. Last time I checker the US economy was doing just fine and the Koreas were talking to each other, something no other Prezi has managed to do.

So you like him because he bothers people? Never mind that businesses never know whether he's coming or going. He's a wonderful president because he bothers people. Hmmm.

The Koreas a re totally unsettled as to what will happen........and folks like you could care less about how Trumpian tactics might affect CANADA..........(and Mexico)

Perhaps you would be kind enough to address the topic with something substantial........(and less inflammatory)

If you are a Trumpian.........are you an anti CDN when it comes to this trade deal??

Are you wanting TRump to get everything HE wants......... while Mexico and CDA make the compromises?? OR are you; for a FAIR THREE way deal??

OR do you ENJOY watching TRump jerking other countries around
as if he was playing some toddlers game of My way or the highway with an underlying nastiness that is despicable

Now that the talks have stalled ( he can't get his waY) HE IS SAYING
mEXICO AND cda ARE SPOILED . wHAT A BLATHERING IDIOT

No worries............Trump will do exactly what is most beneficial for Trump. He didn't get to be a billionaire by being stupid!

He got to be a billionaire by risking and losing other people's money.

He's a grifter, buddy.

Now to be fair though, Canada has been unreasonable in past trade deals with regard to supply management, Canadian content in media, restricting foreign telecoms access to the Canadian market, etc. In that sense, there is a part of me, the more emotional part, that takes glee in how Trump is putting Freeland under pressure for example.

Intellectually though, I can still see how it's a dangerous game. If he were wise, he'd just encourage as much trade as Canada will accept and accept that as the best deal he could get while scratching his head at why Canada would want to limit itself and so hurt its own interests like that. Meanwhile, we Canadians ourselves should be demanding an end to supply management, Canadian Content rules, restrictions on foreign telecoms, etc.?

I mean think about it. We impose Canadian content rules, meanwhile Canadians can access violent porn at a click of a button. Well, as long as it's Canadian violent porn, eh? It does show how our priorities are screwed up. If we must sensor the internet (and I agree that we should), we should be filtering content not on the basis of nationality (what idiot bureaucrat came up with that idea anyway?) but rather on the basis of social wellbeing, so impose stricter rules on porn, gambling, etc. by all means, but why Canadian content?

Very valid points. His tactics leave a lot to be desired . Threats and un nec pressure / name calling is not constructive and certainly does not endear the people working on this to getting the job done in the most professional, and pragmatic way.

I'll say a part of me even hopes Trump pulls out of NAFTA and starts a trade war with us. I'm under no illusion that it would hurt both economies (and especially Canada's). But I think it could serve as a wake-up call to Canada to abandon its sacred cows at a time of crisis and so once saner minds rise up in both countries, they'd both be more strongly in favour of free trade and Canadians would quickly put the farmer and media lobbies in their place real quick. It's time Canada's farmers and media start to look at the big picture and not just their own little parish.

Other than some things that needed tweaking, NAFTA was working well for both countries. I'm amazed that this Idiot of a President doesn't see that. As stated in another post, he's not a very good business man nor a negotiator. Having said that, Trudeau isn't much of one either - wanting "gender-based" crap in a free trade deal. What does that even mean? Perhaps that's why Trump is being such an ass. Mind you, both of them are asses in MHO.

That's probably the main feature of a politician, Dixie! We might be better off though, if we could trade our Ass for their Ass.

Is the fine print they are working on even about NA manufacturers or are the sticking points on foreign manufacturers who set up shop in Canada and Mexico importing their parts from the home country and distributing the vehicles under the NAFTA agreement?
