the carrion beetle is classed as an endangered species, it is a very cool animal, it carries mites on it's body who condition the carrion for beetle babies by offing the competitors little ones right in their nests, it's a very good example of a complex interrelationship between multiple critters which crosses the species barrier, we should celebrate the other species who have hitched a ride on r hide

The bald eagle, we see many of them almost every day, they are
beautiful and proud, and they sure can fish, without having to
go shopping first for all of the 'jewellry' that the fisherman
attach to their lines.

The beaver was the thing i thought of first. But then i remembered the canoeing trips i'd taken in Algonquin Park, and having to navigate and portage around these muck holes that their dams create.. so they're too irritating to be cool.

There lots of cool birds around.. they're animals i guess. Stellar's Jay, Canada Warbler, Cardinal.. covers the primary colours.. but i like the arctic birds, the Gyrfalcon, and its favourite meal, Ptarmigan.. in their white, winter livery.

anybody in the weasel family (chuckle)
Yup. I like weasels, martens, otter, etc.
I don't really have a favorite animal, besides hubby and the kids, though. I like a few birds (snowy owls, ospreys, golden eagles, magpies, grosbeaks) more than other birds, a few four-footed ones (moose, elk, otters, wolves, weasels, martens, tigers, bears, etc) more than others, a few fish (hammerheads, octopus, abalone, king crabs, etc) more than others . Favorite snake is the Emerald boa, though. I even like some bugs; preying mantis, wolf spiders, dragon and damsel flies, etc.

Lots of excellent choices listed here already. I would say the Whiskey Jack (Grey Jay).
Just that you can put out your hand with a few crumbs in it and they will fly right into your hand and sit there eating. It's amazing while it's happening.

I love the gray jays. Here is a pic of yours truly feeding some at Manning Park, just outside of Hope, BC.

Aren't they something? I went to Manning park a long time ago with a group of friends after finishing work late into the night. It was just amazing though I can't remember what it was we were there for. Some very nice people who ran a little restaurant just before you hit the park got up early and fed all of us breakfast. I remember it being very beautiful there with next to no one about.

Do you live in BC?

Canada Jays, I think is the proper name......very fitting.

Gray Jays......we call them Gorbies here....I have NO idea why.

Yes, I remember from my book now, Canada Jay is the official name. Very fitting indeed. They had no hesitation whatsoever to fly into my hand. The only other Jay we get here is the Stellar Jay. We don't get the famous Blue Jay.

I've lived in Victoria, Richmond, Coquitlam and Abbotsford over the years. I now live in Toronto.

The Blue Jay is also a beautiful bird but nowhere near as trusting of people. With the tall buildings, come pigeons.
There are millions of them, which brings both hawks and falcons. You can tell when a raptor is in the area as all the birds find somewhere to light. I've seen a few falcons come out of the sun to drill a smaller bird in flight. Got a birds eye view once downtown from the 24th floor balcony as one took it's prey about 100 feet out from us. If I hadn't happened to be looking that way I never would have seen it. Glad to have someone with me that caught the action too.

We thought at the time if just just caught that on camera we would be able to sell the footage. Pretty cool.

my favourite canadian animal.... hmmmmmm

I like the red tailed hawk So pretty and they fly, and they are meat eaters. Strong swift, you'd never see one coming until it was already in your face. <3

Gray jays are called camp jays here and are nowhere near as plentyfull as they once were, lots of blue jays though.
It may seem a tad strange, but one of my favorites is the skunk. We put food out for stray cats{we'er a foster home for SPCA}and because we'er waaaayy out of town,we get other critters, last night was a coon,a beautiful red fox and a skunk.
