Are you and the rest of the Tiny Township Liberation Front going to disappear into the moraines, live off the land and attack cottagers by night?

Has anyone read "The Art of the Deal?" I seem to recall him saying, prior to even running for the Presidency, that he ALWAYS starts negotiations with seemingly ridiculous demands, knowing that they'll be refused. Gradually, he negotiates to what he actually wants and the "other side" believes they have a win when, in fact, he got exactly what he wanted to begin with.

It's likely that is exactly what he's doing now - putting forth demands that he knows damn well we won't agree to. So if Trudeau and his negotiators have a clue, they should know that's what he's doing. Perhaps I'll email Trudeau and tell him to read Trumps book - well, maybe not - it's likely over his head. But I'll suggest his negotiators read it. Might give them an insight to how this guy works.

Trumps strategy has an impact in those circumstances where one group has a clear advantage over the other.

Understanding that the trade between Canada and the US is very deep and very complex, it is highly unlikely that this 2 dimensional approach will yield the results he would want.

I don't think there's much doubt about it...........................The Donald can be an Asshole at times!

There's a method to his "madness" alright, but does he have the other Republicans on side?

Regardless of what anyone thinks of him personally, Trump is no fool.

Any nation with strong natural resources can easily be self-sustainable, however, the catch is that in assuming a protectionist position, you risk having tariffs, duties, etc, etc being applied by foreign nations on any products coming into their nations. A self contained economy can only grow so much and any additional growth is predicated on the ability to reach new markets.

This is the balancing act that Trump or tater tot have to consider prior to taking a hard line on things

According to Forbes, the magazine about rich people, near as they can make out Trump has been no more "successful" (for values of successful = rich) than he would have been if he had invested his inheritance conservatively and lived off clipping coupons.

Let it fail.

It's robbed the Canadian economy of its integrity and its prosperity. Replace it with a flexible bilateral Fair Trade Agreement.. founded in the benefit of full employment, equitable sharing of wealth, vigorous technological development within an national integrated industrial economy.

NAFTA is sick, a sell out to global financial and trading cartels. It is impoverishing us. Only pathetic little pussies like Justin Trudeau (and his mentor, Jean Chretien) think anything is salvageable from NAFTA (or it predecessor the FTA).

Trump, for all his lack of an articulated, comprehensible vision.. has good instincts in realizing this thing is a racket, aimed at enslaving and exploiting labour for the grotesque enrichment of a global class of parasites.

Trump is a global class parasite who exploits labour to enrich his own coffers.

NAFA is a good deal for Canada, Canada and Mexico are the greatest beneficiaries of NAFA.

The US, not so much. They can do almost everything we do, we need them more than they need us.

Remember, we sell 87% of our exports to the US, but the US sells only 24% of their exports to us.

Anybody who thinks we can do without the USA is very ignorant.

Trump recognizes that the US is selling itself short, he plans to get a better deal, getting 50% content in domestic vehicles is just one example.
Canada is going to have to learn to just suck it up !!

Unfortunately our population is far too small to even consider such a tactic. We must trade or at least export to survive and have anything close to the standard of living government employees get.

Trump is a global class parasite who exploits labour to enrich his own coffers.

Perhaps but that is not near as bad as a freeloader that exploits taxpayers because he/she is too lazy to work. Parasite would be upwardly mobile for those types of people.
