FBI uncovered Russian bribery plot before Obama administration approved controversial nuclear deal with Moscow | TheHill
The purchase and consolidation of certain assets were facilitated by Canadian entrepreneurs who gave large sums to the Clinton Foundation, and perhaps arranged a Bill Clinton speech in Moscow for $500,000. A key transaction had to be approved by Hillary Clinton’s State Department.
Now we learn that, before and during these transactions, the FBI had uncovered a bribery and kickback scheme involving Russia’s U.S. nuclear business, and also received reports of Russian officials seeking to curry favor through donations to the Clinton Foundation.
This criminal activity was apparently not disclosed to agencies vetting the 2010 transfer of U.S. commercial nuclear assets to Russia. The FBI made no move to break up the scheme until long after the transaction closed. Only five years later, the Justice Department, in 2015, disclosed a plea deal with the Russian perpetrator so quietly that its significance was missed until The Hill reported on the FBI investigation last week.
For anyone who cares to look, the real problem here is that the FBI itself is so thoroughly implicated in the Russia meddling story.

House GOP chairmen announce probe of Obama’s Justice Dept
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican chairmen of two House committees announced Tuesday they’re opening an investigation into actions the Obama administration Justice Department took during last year’s presidential election.
The chairmen said in a statement Tuesday they have several questions, including why then-FBI Director James Comey decided to publicly announce the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified information but not to publicly announce the investigation into Donald Trump’s campaign associates.
Trump fired Comey in May. At first, the White House cited a harsh memo about Comey’s performance from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as the justification — though Trump later said he would have fired Comey regardless of what the Justice Department recommended.
Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, chairman of the Oversight Committee, announced the probe. They described it as necessary to “better understand the reasoning behind how certain conclusions were drawn.”
Other questions the Republican lawmakers said they want addressed revolve around the decision not to file criminal charges against Clinton. The lack of charges remains a lingering grievance for Trump, who for months has held it up as an example of a “rigged” criminal justice system that shielded his Democratic opponent from punishment for her use of a private server for government business.
Comey said in July of last year that Clinton’s handling of classified information was “extremely careless” but the FBI would not recommend charges against her.
The two chairmen said they want to know more about the FBI’s timeline for charging decisions.
“Congress has a constitutional duty to preserve the integrity of our justice system by ensuring transparency and accountability of actions taken,” Goodlatte and Gowdy said in a press release.
Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia dismissed the move.
“This is nothing more than a charade and distraction from the ongoing crisis in the White House. What about Russia? What about rampant conflicts of interest? This gives hypocrisy a bad name,” he said.

Flake, Corker. Rats deserting a sinking ship. That's my take, and the ship is the NeoCon Republican Establishment which is in the throws of a full scale mutiny by the Trump nationalists and populists, led by Steve Bannon. Flake had an 18% approval rating in Arizona and was virtually sure to lose the Republican Primary, before being trounced in the general election.
Frankly the pathetic displays of self righteous outrage by both yesterday, while lacking the courage to actually put their views to the approval of the voters, showed just how lacking in character and how hypocritical both are.
They knew they'd get a sympathetic hearing from the establishment press and political establishment. They complain that Trump isn't following Marquess of Queensberry gentleman's rules but lack the guts to meet in the street brawl this has become. Trump showed, they took a powder, and framed themselves in heroic terms for a their very brave abandonment of the field.
