Bring manufacturing home? Let's start with Ivanka Trump's $100 million made-in-Asia apparel line

Want to bring manufacturing back home? Let's start with Ivanka Trump's clothing line:

Ivanka Trump’s $100 million apparel line is sewn in Asian countries under a licensing agreement with G-III Apparel Group Inc., which has expanded from making coats in New York’s Garment District to become a manufacturer of global scope. That method of moving $140 sheath dresses and $80 sweaters means political embarrassment for her father, who has threatened a trade war against China, the world’s second-largest economy. But she can make a profit in few other ways.
Why Asia? You know why:

The Trump clothes are sourced primarily from China and Vietnam because that’s where fabrics are made and the labor is cheap and skilled. The brand generates an estimated $100 million in sales -- a small part of G-III’s annual take of more than $2 billion, said John Kernan, an analyst for Cowen & Co.

Cheap labor, more profit. Isn’t that why Carrier was moving their manufacturing to Mexico? Isn’t that why Donald Trump has scolded companies like Apple? For manufacturing overseas? Why shouldn’t the Trump family put their money where their mouths are and start by finding a way to make their own goods right here in the U.S.A? Because it’s all about that profit and that bottom line. And as Bloomberg notes, it probably would not end well for Ivanka Trump’s clothing line:

Even if Ivanka Trump could persuade G-III to move all or part of its manufacturing to the U.S., it would dramatically increase the cost of her goods, Cohen said. And that could be a death knell.

“If you ask a person if they prefer to buy made in America, they’ll always say yes, but when it comes to shopping they don’t act that way,” Gribben said. “They want a bargain, they want a value, they want something that looks great. They never look at the label.”

Meanwhile, as a Trump transition team member, Ivanka Trump currently sits in on meetings with the very same people who will be negotiating trade deals down the line. Ones that could ultimately benefit her and the Trump family down the road. Swell.

Leading investment firm just predicted Trump will plunge US into massive recession

A reputable London-based firm predicts Donald Trump’s economic policies will cause a boom in 2017 and 2018, with a crippling recession following in 2019.

Legal & General (L&G) — a 200-year-old insurance and investment firm — announced Wednesday that the United States is likely to plunge into a severe recession just one year before the next presidential election if President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for the economy come to fruition. L&G specifically referenced Trump’s $1 trillion infrastructure plan, along with his stated goals of slashing federal tax rates for corporations and individuals in their assessment of the future of the U.S. economy.

Tim Drayson, who is the lead economist at L&G Investment Management, told the London Telegraph Trump’s policies will initially double GDP growth from 1.5 percent to 3 percent, but that the increased growth will be short-lived.

“We think there is going to be a cost to this growth in the form of a downturn in 2019 – if we get the full Trump plan, there is a bigger boom in 2017 and 2018, then a bigger bust in 2019,” Drayson told the Telegraph. “At some point the bond market will freak out about this.”

“This is an unsustainable path and it will cause a bond market riot,” Drayson continued.

With the U.S. economy already delivering relatively high growth in comparison to stagnant wages and a relatively low unemployment rate, Drayson believes a fiscal crisis is just around the corner. The L&G economist added that if Trump’s plan to spend $1 trillion is successful, it will cause the United States’ current budget deficit to hit a “catastrophic” breaking point, prompting investors to sell off U.S. bonds en masse.

“He will not be able to maintain these fiscal plans indefinitely and someone will have to come into the White House to clean up the mess that it looks like he is about to create,” Drayson said.

Because the U.S. dollar is a dominant currency in global markets and a major exporter to Western countries like the United Kingdom, Drayson worries that the Trump recession would reverberate across the Atlantic and impact Britain’s economy, as well.

“US demand goes down, the dollar weakens, and the UK would be in a difficult spot because there is no fiscal space and we’re running out of monetary ammunition as well, so it would be very difficult to offset that,” Drayson said.

Should we be worrying about stuff that hasn't happened yet?

Gee, have you already forgotten all of Wally's threads about how Obama was going to take away people's guns, kill jobs and create death panels through health care reform, close the Internet(s), bring on World War III, etc????

Threats of an Anti-Muslim Holocaust
This Week in Hate

This Week in Hate tracks hate crimes and harassment around the country since the election of Donald Trump. The Southern Poverty Law Center and other groups are keeping detailed counts of harassment and abuse. We will regularly present a selection of incidents to show the scope of the problem. This article, the first in the series, includes incidents reported in the last two weeks.

• In the last week, three mosques in California and one in Georgia have received letters threatening that Donald Trump “is going to do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews.” The letters were signed “Americans for a Better Way.”

• Last week, a passenger on a Delta flight began shouting, “Donald Trump” and asked, “We got some Hillary bitches on here?”

• In Astoria, Queens, on Nov. 17, an Arab-American Uber driver recorded a video of another driver shouting at him that “Trump is president” and “they’ll deport you soon.”

• At a Smith’s supermarket in Albuquerque, N.M., on Nov. 23, a woman began shouting Islamophobic abuse at a shopper wearing a hijab. Employees removed the shouting woman from the store, but she waited in the parking lot for the woman in the hijab to emerge. Eventually, employees escorted the woman in the hijab to her car.

• At Collins Hill High School in Gwinnett County, Ga., swastikas, racist slurs, the name “Trump” and the message “build a wall” were spray-painted on school buildings and sidewalks. The vandalism was discovered on Nov. 22.

• Also on Nov. 22, employees at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Conn., found swastikas and references to Mr. Trump spray-painted on the school’s athletic complex.

• In Bangor, Me., on Nov. 18, an African-American man was punched and pushed to the ground. Afterward, according to reports from two passersby, his attacker said he should watch out, because Mr. Trump could deport him. Police now say the attack was not racially motivated, but the investigation is ongoing.

• In Denver, on Nov. 16, a transgender woman discovered that her car had been vandalized with slurs, a swastika and the word “die.” She had previously written the messages “#NotMyPresident” and “Love Trumps Hate” on the windows.

• Adam Yauch Park in Brooklyn was vandalized with swastikas and the words “Go Trump” on Nov. 18. The park was named for a member of the band the Beastie Boys who died of cancer in 2012.

• On Nov. 17, a New York subway rider noticed a swastika drawn inside a B train car. Riders have also seen swastikas on the 1 train.

If you have experienced harassment, these resources may be helpful. If you witness harassment, here are some tips for responding.

The world according to Trump.

Trumps still alive. There the danger of letting that get to old, he might reach for the rings. I think memorial coffee mugs is more hiis style. If he is what he says he is it won't be long, there will be a whole set, gravey dish and all.

when Trump stops being such an ignorant, narrow minded, resistive to the facts , (unless theysuit him)...and being atwitter fanatic to get his verbal revenge, and actually behaves in a truly intelligent, sophisticated manner..sure. then there is no need to dump on him. In the mean time he is building a track record of childiish conduct so un befitting of a president. The real question is : why are the supporters so blind to his shortcomings??? Have they willingly beenduped by Russia too?? Maybe it is the Trump following that should stop believing the fake news that suits their mindset and "thinking".

The realityis that Trump i s dangerous on so many levels ..and yet so manyh are blind to it. If he believes.and it seems it is the case.... that every thing is an negotiation or the game of "lets makea deal"....then the problem is very serous. He is not sensitive to the nuances that is so important.

But if this is thekind of "leacer" that the US population wants.... they certainlyhave him now.

Now why would trump be skipping or avoiding the daily intelligence briefings?? How does he get his ino?? Fake news?? or Twitter?? Now that is concerning....as his credivbility become highly supsect.. as does his knowledge base.

He is yhet to learn that being President of the US.is not a figure head role. He has to be able to make INFORMED decisions..and statements....andso far. his statements arelacking in data , facts, and prone to bias. One has to wonder: what is in it for those that are such avid supporters of trump? Do they see the FAT that he is very selective on what he accepts as "fact" or info?? If he don't want to hear it he does not listen.... that is very concerning as inno way can he be described as objective.

No one is picking on Trump......the above are simply the facts. Just like he wants no part of investigating the Russian influence in the election.. the influence that gave him win. He is too threatened by the probability that the election was interfered by the Russians.... and t He is already talking about being in office for 8 yrs.t being in office for 8 yrs....as if it is a given. I have to presume that his supporters don't have a problem w ith this kind of presupposition and attitude.Perhaps they (his supporters) too hear what they want to hear and dismiss what they don'tlike as "fake newss" or someother phenomena. that too is concerning.... as for an image conscious country.... the image being sent out is......well. is pretty obvious.

This whole thing is another example of how one person in a certain role can affect the entrie planet in a negative way. ......the details are unfolding as we watch...

The above are not facts; they are your opinion to which you are definitely entitled. But please understand that there are many who are of a different opinion and they are as apt to be right as you are.
Time will tell.

Of course. Seems that facts are the factors that Trump tends to dismiss ..particularly when they don't fit his own preconceived ideas. what will it take for his followers to see throgoough his BS and realize he is not equipped for the job?/ He is not even "official" and already started a "situation" between the US and China.
He also considers himself too smart to bother with daily briefings. (even if they would build up a knowledge base and pattern of world activities

He dismisses the info that Russia interfered with the election..... as "ridiculous" wonder if he would say the same if he had lost and the Russians had faavored Hillary.

What is appalling is that there is not a peep from the US population about having a foreign nation meddling in their sacrosanct election process.
The reality is that it does cast a shadow on the election results.

When Trump starts dealing in facts and stops manipulating situations to fit his own agenda...then facts might become relevant again. FAkew news have influenced the election too.

There is no coherence in what is taking place. But it is what it is when a power junkie and control freak is determined to have HIS way regardless of the consequences. eg: How he triggered a reaction from China ..(and he is not even in office yet.) Trump is going to get dumped on andhe better get used to it. Obama got it, Hillary got it ...and the timing of the wikileaks etc did her campaign in...... so unless he starts to actlike anadult and leanrs to dealwith issues diplomatically he could be triggering a lot of unrest world wide. It is one thing to be anti establsihment etc.. but learn a little tact and grace. Boorishness is not a winning diplomatic skill. It also has nothing to do with political correctness .either

Interesting tile : What is Trump?? a poor victim of bullying?? or is he the bully?? Ans: the latter The fact that he can't handle the consequences of his big mouth is evident in his twittering. If folks are too blind to see him for what he is..then they can deal with the con man they elected. Perhaps they got blinded with all that bling that is part of his building structure. and assumed it is the real deal. but they sure get ugly when they defend him. Ugly has taken over from intelligent articulate , knowledgeable, and wise. Who knew...(how fast society wold deteriorate ) Sad.
