Barry you've brought the Americans lots of change, but very little hope.

Jobless rate tops 10 pct. for first time since '83

Unemployment rate tops 10 percent for first time since 1983; 190,000 jobs lost in October

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The unemployment rate has surpassed 10 percent for the first time since 1983 -- and is likely to go higher.
Nearly 16 million people can't find jobs even though the worst recession since the Great Depression has apparently ended. Many economists worry that persistently high unemployment could undermine the recovery by restraining consumer spending, which accounts for 70 percent of the economy.
The Labor Department said Friday that jobless rate rose to 10.2 percent, the highest since April 1983, from 9.8 percent in September. The economy shed a net total of 190,000 jobs in October, less than the downwardly revised 219,000 lost in September, but more than economists expected.
The jump in the jobless rate reflects a sharp increase in the tally of unemployed Americans, which rose to 15.7 million from 15.1 million. The net loss of jobs occurred across most industries, from manufacturing and construction to retail and financial. That tally is based on a separate survey of businesses.
Economists say the unemployment rate could climb as high as 10.5 percent next year because employers remain reluctant to hire.
Counting those who have settled for part-time jobs or stopped looking for work, the unemployment rate would be 17.5 percent, the highest on records dating from 1994.

Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting

A bad week for Democrats compounded by an awful moment for Barack Obama.

By ROBERT A. GEORGE

Fri, Nov 6, 2009

President Obama didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership, but this time the subject matter was more grim than a pair of governorships.
After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance. At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.
But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?

What a narcissistic boor.

So there's another opinion for you.

I watched the YouTube video Walter had and found Obama to be very Presidential like. So I have to agree with you AnnaG..

He had limited information that even Fox News was pointing to in the video.. What more could be added..

Barack Obama’s ‘My Pet Goat’ Moment

Posted by Erick Erickson
Friday, November 6th
On September 11, 2001, President George W. Bush, while reading a book to children in Florida called “My Pet Goat,” found Andy Card whispering in his ear that America had been attacked and we were at war.
Not wanting to drop everything and flee lest he scare the children, the President calmly finished the book, then left to a profoundly changed America. Ever since then, the left has excoriated President Bush for continuing to read “My Pet Goat.” Barack Obama, careful to never have such a moment, has just failed miserably.
You can hear the audio, with Fred Thompson’s commentary over it, here. It is profoundly disturbing and disrespectful to the families of the victims and the soldiers at Ft. Hood, Tx.
Instead of acting to not alarm unsuspecting kids, Obama couldn’t be bothered to interrupt his cool-guy image and interest-group pandering.
President Obama had his press conference about the Ft. Hood incident in conjunction to an address of American Indians. Before the President could be bothered to address the grieving, the wounded, and the dead, he had to thank everyone for a wonderful conference, thank the Department of the Interior for hosting it, attribute to one attendee a Congressional Medal of Honor the attendee never won, and go on ad nauseam about the wonders of the conference.
It would have been one thing to give a brief thank you and get to the pressing matter of the day. But the President had to be the cool-guy pandering to favorite interest groups. And the military is decidedly not a favorite interest group.
Today, the teleprompter should be fired.

Francis, you must remember one thing, Obama haters will criticize Obama no matter what he does. It is indeed a measure of their visceral hatred towards him that they were blaming the current economic meltdown on Obama even before he took office.

So I wouldn’t put any trust in anything an Obama hater would say. And the long winded, rambling articles that Walter posts here are usually from Obama haters.

I don't think this is Obama hating SJP.. I believe this is beyond that scope.. If Ronald Reagan ran as a Democrat and won he would get the same treatment as Obama gets today..

But of course, I have said so many times. If Reagan had been alive today, he would be drummed out of the Republican party as a RINO (Republican In Name Only). Republican party has moved way to the right of Reagan. After all Reagan did appoint Sandra Day O’Connor to the Supreme Court, who was one of the reliable votes in favour of abortion. Also he was on very friendly terms with Tip O’Neil, Speaker of the House, a Democrat and a staunch liberal.

These days the Republican philosophy is, ‘the only good liberal is a dead liberal’ (metaphorically speaking, of course). Being friends with a liberal? A Republican would surely be drummed out of the party for that.

Today’s Republican party is much more conservative, way to the right of Reagan and Goldwater.

Quite so, old boy. I'm so glad that you're able to cut and paste this incredibly thoughtful, well-reasoned, unbiased discussion.

Perhaps, next time, you can use a red crayon, and write, "I hate Obama".

Because, really, that's all you've said for the last year. Do you have any other thoughts, or is this the only concept you're able to relate, even by cutting and pasting?

Joke, you must remember that a few people would deify Obama no matter what, too. It is indeed a fawning idolatry toward him that they cannot imagine him making any mistakes.
So it's pretty tough to put much serious thought into whatever those people say. Having said that, however, I think you are right about the people Walter quotes.

Bloodless President Barack Obama makes Americans wistful for George W Bush

Barack Obama's reaction to bad news is to play it so cool that Americans yearn for a bit more drama - and some even for his predecessor, writes Toby Harnden in Washington.

Toby Harnden's American Way
Published: 5:57PM GMT 07 Nov 2009
During the election campaign, Barack Obama's cool detachment was a winning quality, the "No Drama Obama" a welcome contrast with the "Mr Angry" John McCain, never mind the hot-headed "I'm the decider" President George W Bush.
A year into his presidency, however, Mr Obama seems a curiously bloodless president. If he experiences passion, he seldom shows it. It is often anyone's guess as to whether an event or issue truly moves him.
He has spent more than two months considering a troop increase but do we know how he really feels about the Afghan war?
In a sign that the Obama honeymoon truly is over, I began to hear this week the first stirrings of a wistfulness about Mr Bush. "I never thought I'd hear myself say it," one Democrat told me. "But Obama makes you feel that at least with Bush you knew where he was on something."

Barry's a narcissistic boor.

And, of course, the blind Obama sycophants blame everything on Bush.

NOW. A year from now. Two years from now. Always and forever.

Top o' the mornin' to you Y.J. Now let's hear your three main objections to Obama, we know he's not at the top of your Xmas mailing list, but you haven't really reiterated WHY!

And good morning to you, JLM!

I know that no matter what I say, you WILL oppose. So, I take your dare with good humour.

Number one: Show me just ONE example when Obama took criticism with Presidential grace and dignity. Just one example when he did not send his attack dogs to bite anyone who had the temerity to say anything but the usual MSM crap about how great he is.

Number two: his total inability to galvanize his own base. With veto-proof majority in thre Senate and overwhelming majority in thr House, why - if not for incompetance - can he not get any bill passed?

Number three: 10.2% unemployment.

Fair enough, I can accept your opinions.
I wasn't really aware that #1 was an issue, as for #2 I'm not really cognizant of the parliamentary system in the U.S. but get the feeling that that is not the fault of Obama. As for # 3, 10.2% although not very good is not much worse than ours. I don't believe it is the responsibility of the political head honcho under any system to supply jobs and further more all of the above you've mentioned has happened or not happened in about 9 months, not really a fair trial period in my books. From what I've seen of Obama, he hasn't acted less than gracious 99% of the time. I'll rate him as C+ for now.
