I think you have the subject is proper prospective Cannuck. Most times when we use "Newfies", "Scotsmen", "Ukranians", it's just an example we take out of the blue to tell a joke- could just as easily be Martians.

Oh come on. If you use Martians then you won't get the response you're looking for. Newfies, Scotsmen or Ukranians are buried deep in your mind now and are always there for your wisecracks whenever the need arises. It doesn't come out of the blue. Just because it's been the norm up to this point does not make it right.

The question is....is it okay to be offended?

Yes it is.

Or should the black guy who walked out just man up and offer to take the black faced guys place because it's Halloween for f*ck sake.....you can do anything.

He could if he wanted to....or he cold have done nothing which is what most Wiccans do when somebody denigrates their religious beliefs with silly witch costumes.

Interesting though that you find a German holding the head of a dead Canadian soldier acceptable as long as I don't do anything hateful.

What about the head of a Jew...is that alright as well.

Yup.

That is absolutely the silliest thing posted on this thread. Nothing these guys have said or done would suggest they believe slavery is acceptable or entertaining. I suggest you retract this statement because the individuals involved in this story (as well as their lawyers) may not look too kindly on your libelous allegation.
Libelous allegation! Really. So dressing up like they did was just a couple of good old boys having some fun on a Saturday night. Well that tells me where your thinking lies. Have their lawyer call me. I'll give them the same spiel.
Been there.

Too foggy for ya?

So you don't find that hateful?

What would be hateful then?

Even the cop who wore the black face admits it was in bad taste and should have thought it through more before he did it.

There's a difference between bad taste and hateful....that's the point that keeps whizzing over your head. Until you figure out dictionary.com, these types of threads will go round and round and round and.....

I'm not being insulting, nor should you.

How is dressing up in a Nazi costume and carrying around the head of a Jew not hateful?

How would it become hateful if that isn't?

I don't think you are catching on too swiftly- there is a vast difference between depicting something that is hateful and actually being hateful.

I disagree. Wearing a Nazi uniform, no matter the intent, hurts people. Dressing up as a lynch victim, how is that not hurtful? It isn't necessary for the intent to be there. Actions can be hurtful nonetheless. Were their actions criminal? I never said that they were. However, they were stupid. The two men in question agree with that assessment.

Some things should not be Halloween costumes. This was one of them.

Northern Ontario,
How would one dress like an illegal alien? They look just like anyone else!

Unless you are talking about an alien from outer space...;)

You didn't hear about this last year???

I know what I'll do next year for Halloween...Just wear a sign that says..."I am not wearing a costume because i might offend somebody"

Who said anything about that?

It's a free country and in a free country people are allowed to be offended.

If some people find a KKK douche leading another douche in black face around by a rope offensive I can understand that.

At least know that when you do something stupid prepare for a backlash.

Pointing out that the point keeps going over your head isn't insulting...unless you find the truth insulting. Dressing up as any evil villain should be acceptable during Halloween. The costume is not god or bad, it is behavior. Like I said earlier, a costume may be inappropriate for certain places (ie: the sheep f..cker at a kids party) but even dressing up as Mel Gibson can be hateful if you spout anti-Jewish slurs. That doesn't mean a Mel Gibson costume is intrinsically hateful.
