Not sure where you dug this turd up from but please put it back.
Nobody has backed off of handgun bans.
Nobody is backing hand gun bans except a few snowflakes that can't even properly identify that which they want banned. And since it is already against the law for criminals to own handguns why is the government not taking their illegal handguns away? Why pick on ligit gun owners that commit no crimes?

Parliamentary e-petition E-2341 has soared into first place for the most signed government e-petition in Canadian history, and with good reason.

During the last federal election, the Trudeau Liberals vowed to ban many semi auto rifles from legal owners across the country as part of their election platform, in spite of objections from law enforcement and experts from coast to coast that this would not curb crime and violence.

The result of the 2019 election was a weakened minority government, dependant on opposition parties for support in order to support legislation. This is where an OIC (Order in Council) comes in … there will be no vote required and democracy is circumvented. This outrageous abuse of power has sent Canadians of all kinds into shock that any government would disrespect proper parliamentary procedure.

A measure of this magnitude will affect millions of law-abiding Canadians and deserves the appropriate debate, study and expert testimony that it should see.

The fact the Liberals are suggesting they will use such an extreme measure, and are in such a hurry to do so, is a clear indicator they don’t have the support they would need to do this kind of damage.

This overstep should be setting off screaming alarm bells to every single Canadian.

Canada’s democracy is at grave risk.

Gun bans consistently poll majorities in Canada.

The problem is not a lack of support it is the intensity of the opposition.

In house gun banner polls impress gullible leftards.
For some reason there seems to be a direct link between gun banners and globull warming truthers. Must be the cold froze their brains.

Northern Ontario,
Take a poll right after a shooting and you'll get a different number than if you wait a while!
That's how the antis get their inflated numbers.
Wait a while and you get completely different results.

and the party in power ran on a gun ban

the evidence is overwhelming that Canada wants or at least would not oppose a gun ban.

it is very much like a plastic ban: something with solid public support that somehow the government cannot get done.

Here's the problem with that mentality;

I propose a ban on cars inside cities.

My guess is that would save a lot more lives than a gun ban. And who would vote for it in a poll? People that don't own cars in the city.

I propose a complete ban on the possession and sale of alcoholic beverages.

If that were successful, it would definitely save more lives than a gun ban. And who would vote for it in a poll? People that don't drink. The USA did try that, and put it into law. Didn't work out so well.

I propose a complete ban on the sale and possession of tobacco.

If that were successful, it would save 45,000 Canadian lives a year.....4,000 of whom are non-smokers. And who would vote for it in a poll? People that don't use tobacco.

And that is how polls work.

When you have a poll, the vast, vast majority of people voting for a gun ban have no guns, no knowledge of guns, no concept of the extensive and restrictive laws surrounding gun ownership, and know nothing about who is doing the killings with guns and where those guns come from. That is why the majority of police organizations oppose the ban. They know it is stupid.

Of the people that actually care enough to sign a petition on gun control, the gun grabbers are outnumbered 7 to 1.

For Hoid; You're still ignored, I saw this in a reply below.

Some cities have decided they want to have a gun ban.

My position is that they should be allowed to do so.
So? It's mine that because a few cities want gun bans, it's brainless to force an entire country to swallow the bans, especially the parts of the country that aren't urban.

BTW, the majority of Canadians live in or very near cities. So it isn't a surprise that they want gun bans. The bans won't make them any safer, though, and it would cost them a bit more to form and process the bans.
Stupid behaviour, IMO.
Better idea just to toss anyone illegally possessing a gun in the can without bail, time off for good behavious, etc.for 10 years.
