The trades were suppressed by the western education system but we were all going to ride swiftly and surely on the innovative space age information highway and step off at station 55 into the pale blue sweater wearing investment portfolios we could become. Retirement is out of the question, CO2 never sleeps.

Yes Ralph had it right during his first term and a part of his second term. The economy started to grow- and funding for infrastructure was not there – It was delayed to the point where project increased 300 to 400 %
Recall the City of Edmonton debacle on the South side- Cost estimated at 75 million- when they finally got around to doing it the cost was ¼ of a billion.
And these examples were rampant under Klein as the economy increased.

Add 2 % on the GST- a consumption tax – fairest tax around.

Yep, not much wrong with Ralph, he was a champion of the working man to the point of having a beer with them and he didn't take any sh*t..........................Canada's version of George Bush, I suppose, although he probably drank more beer. Perhaps his biggest asset was his philosophy of not spending money he didn't have.

Ahhh, the mortgaging of future generations canard.

Unlike the Captain, I advocate a restructuring of taxation and royalties to pay our way now, rather than keeping our own self interests protected and passing the pain off on the poor, health care, or the education of our future generations.

One of the big reasons that AB has a healthy corporate population outside of just oil companies is because of the tax regime. ANy of teh corp HQ's could easily be in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver (or Dallas, Houston, etc), but they have chosen AB for a variety of reasons - chief among them is the low prov tax.

As for the a PST.. Sure, a consumption tax is the most fair in terms of equitable exposure, but considering that we already have a progressive federal income tax system AND a provincial income tax rate AND GST - adding in PST is just another tax and money grab.

Like I said Goobs, AB has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
