The trades were suppressed by the western education system but we were all going to ride swiftly and surely on the innovative space age information highway and step off at station 55 into the pale blue sweater wearing investment portfolios we could become. Retirement is out of the question, CO2 never sleeps.

Amazing, sometimes your brain does get put into gear. Very good db, now take another toot and drift off back to lala land.

What, I'm worried now, how dare you frighten me, I'll ring my physician first thing on the morrow.

There is an interesting discrepancy between the percentage of workers over 55 in Alberta and a similar statistic for Canada as a whole. Alberta's percentage is much higher.

" Canada's working-age population is also growing older. Within the working-age group,*42.4% of people were aged between*45*and*64, a record high proportion. This was well above the proportion of*28.6% in*1991, when the first baby boomers reached age*45." 2011 census data

42 versus 47 isn't much of a discrepancy, especially when your stats come from different sources.

Well, Alberta's unemployment rate is 4.5%. That rate is essentially full employment. But, only half of those working are under 55. Alberta's has an aging workforce and too few youth, as a proportion, employed. That is interesting.

And the problem again arises- Married couples who have a large single income level equates to one spouse often not working - That was public info when AB was going thru the last worker shortage. And it was published by the Govt of Canada.
And who can blame that spouse- child care costs- raising your children. I can see why for those that can make that particular choice.

We all knew that was coming, nation wide, as baby boomers aged. There have been article after article about the fact.

But the "problem" is coming to Alberta more quickly than to the country as a whole. What are we as a province doing about it?

What are the differences between Provinces- Highest- middle and lowest.

Will check. Later...

Take a look at the decline of 7% in youth employment in Alberta.
