And he still did infinitely more for Torontonians than Ford did.

Kelly certainly isn't my guy, but if you hear his reasoning for his short trip, I think most of us can accept that.
What specifically did he do besides go to FL?

According to him he answered his Emails. While Ford was there talking to the right people and going around the city. Don't expect the leftys to understand the difference.

He worked with the province to bring in all of the additional resources that we needed to respond to the emergency, and coordinated the response.

Ford never actually talked to anyone from the province, so it is hard to say he was talking to any of the right people.

And you know that by tapping his phone?

Crisis? When did storms become crisis'. Oh, btw it's Rob's jurisdiction. Of course he the guy in from to the camera. He's supposed to be. Has Rob now sunk so low that he's now getting kudos for simply doing what he is supposed to do?
Exactly he is the friggin mayor so he should be acting like the mayor.

Unfortunately, in Toronto that power rests with Rob Ford ...

No, actually, it doesn't. The position of Mayor does come with dictatorial powers.

Cannuck, you should watch out you don't dislocate your shoulder being so humble.

lol, you obviously think the DoD position is impressive or something. You should try it.

Imagine what would have been said had Ford disappeared for the last two weeks. Your argument is weak.

I'm pretty sure there would be ideologues on the other side that would criticize Rob. They are no different than you when it comes to a lack of knowledge of municipal politics and weak arguments

The disaster plan is written by the Director of Disaster Services (Ontario may use a different term). The council passes the plan. The mayor doesn't have a great deal of input.

Quite frankly if the mayor "has" to do anything, it's probably a pretty pisspoor plan. I remember people dumping on Bush after Katrina. Bush should never have been involved except that others failed miserably. A politicians job during an emergency should be nothing more than public relations.

Nonsense the Mayor is supposed to be front and center during a storm event
of such magnitude. He is not doing anything heroic he is doing his job. Why
do we insist on making heroes out of ordinary circumstances. Its like a cop who
jumps into freezing water to rescue someone from a sinking car. I know all
kinds of people a couple even cops who would do that as part of being there.
That does not make them hero's brave yes hero no.
We have so many hero's we're running out of medals. Ford will get a bump in
the polls that he doesn't deserve. If he is re-elected it will serve to prove the
people of Toronto are as dysfunctional as he is and they deserve each other.

Well said. Personally, I cannot understand the loyalty he evokes.
