Aside from the complete lack of evidence and totally illogical silliness of religion, one of the surest proofs for me that it's all a pile of buffalo chips is the simple fact that there's no discernible difference in the conduct of religious people and organisations and that of non-religious people and organisations.

What the heck you doing up at this hour anyhow, Bart?

Except that non believers have never had a war over who has a better gawd.

Doesn't really explain Pol Pot, Stalin, Genghis Khan, etc.

I believe that if you crunch the numbers with respect to total global populations, you'll observe an entirely different reality
Includes all of the Americas, not just the US:

But we don't want to talk about that since we are soooooo benevolent, civilized and Christian.

Just wondering how many people here celebrate Christmas or have a little Christmas Drinkee Poo and get paid for that day off and exchange presents and such. Show of hands now? You atheists too. If you can accept all the fringe benefits of a Christian Religious observance what would be the big deal in raising your hand and saying, "So help me God." Even if you don't believe.

Or does there have to be presents involved?

This would be a good question to pose to said atheist air force complainer.

Well, when I was in the A.F., I got Christmas off half the time, and didn't get it off half the time, so can I say "so help?" And just raise two fingers?

Or how about one finger?

with your pension? Deny God, get out of the services, tell God thanks later when you two are alone. I don't see a problem here, only opportunities. Seems a bit backwards to say you believe in somebody whose rules prevent a pilot from killing people. Are they looking for pilots that will commit suicide after and save them having to shell out a pension?

I'm not religious.
Then you belong in a foxhole on the front lines, you will be if you survive.

You do know how it all started right? A dyslexic man was praying to his DOG
and it got turned around and now we all pay a price.
This is nonsense who the hell cares who one swears an oath to? If you give
your word and pledge to stand up for you country that should be good enough.
There are those who believe deeply in their faith and religion and I don't begrudge
them. There are those who don't give a fig about religion God the Devil or for
that matter the spirit of garden gnomes and I respect their beliefs too.
The measure of a person is "Are they prepared to stand behind their word"
Swearing on a Bible of a case Molson Beer makes no difference its all nonsense

Actually Goober I am not an atheist I just think we are making to big a deal
out of it are we looking for clergy or pilots? Some believe some don't but the
real issue is are they good at what they do? I don't care what if any religion
someone is I care about whether or not they are good at what they do.

My apologies, I read the post and arrived at that conclusion.

See and I'm on the other side of this. I see pledging allegiance to a God as a tradition rather than spiritual. Ask all the soldiers who give this pledge if they believe and you might be surprised. I sometimes think that atheists are deeper zealots than folks who are religious. It would seem that they aren't all that secure in their believe in nothing.

All those asked to kill for King and Country must have the blessings of God, there's your tradition, very old, if you go to battle without the Gods in your train, yer fu cked. Today,s mass murdering pilot requires a strong spiritual co pi to forgive every vapourization of innocents, drugs x religion and you got trigger pulling fanatics. A city block without blinkin.

Those who keep professing their faith over and over are really trying to convince themselves.
That goes also for those who believe in nothing......
