Just wondering how many people here celebrate Christmas or have a little Christmas Drinkee Poo and get paid for that day off and exchange presents and such. Show of hands now? You atheists too. If you can accept all the fringe benefits of a Christian Religious observance what would be the big deal in raising your hand and saying, "So help me God." Even if you don't believe.

Well, when I was in the A.F., I got Christmas off half the time, and didn't get it off half the time, so can I say "so help?" And just raise two fingers?
Or how about one finger?
The good part is all those years in the army didn't teach you a thing about forcing religion on people who don't want it, except maybe how to do it more effectively.
I think the AF policy on this is from riding to high combined with oxygen deprivation.

Seems a bit backwards to say you believe in somebody whose rules prevent a pilot from killing people. Are they looking for pilots that will commit suicide after and save them having to shell out a pension?

them. There are those who don't give a fig about religion God the Devil or for
that matter the spirit of garden gnomes and I respect their beliefs too.

Actually Goober I am not an atheist I just think we are making to big a deal
out of it are we looking for clergy or pilots? Some believe some don't but the
real issue is are they good at what they do? I don't care what if any religion
someone is I care about whether or not they are good at what they do.

See and I'm on the other side of this. I see pledging allegiance to a God as a tradition rather than spiritual. Ask all the soldiers who give this pledge if they believe and you might be surprised. I sometimes think that atheists are deeper zealots than folks who are religious. It would seem that they aren't all that secure in their believe in nothing.
All those asked to kill for King and Country must have the blessings of God, there's your tradition, very old, if you go to battle without the Gods in your train, yer fu cked. Today,s mass murdering pilot requires a strong spiritual co pi to forgive every vapourization of innocents, drugs x religion and you got trigger pulling fanatics. A city block without blinkin.
Those who keep professing their faith over and over are really trying to convince themselves.
