Hell. It's very likely that the English word "Hell" stems from the land of Hel, where, according to some Norse mythology, men go when they die of old age or sickness rather than war. The domain is presided over by a shadowy female being of the same name.

I am not looking for proof. Those that are, well if they do not find it during this life, they will in the next.

I'm glad you noticed.......All those religious and anti-religion posts are the same regurgitated nonsense to me...none of them even come close to being original......so why should I be.

the pictures are nice, I love animals, just need a bit of variance. I never place anyone on ignore. Everyone has something to offer in everything they post, it's up to the receiver to filter it. There was a period of time last year when I didn't filter well and thought the poster was the problem. Turns out it was me.

What's that quote...? Oh I know..."if you can't be a good example, you will just have to be a horrible warning" love that quote... it's all good Das

I like the one...
"I never make the mistake of arguing with someone whose opinion I don't respect"

Which is why arguing with religious fanatics or anti religion fanatics is a waste....

It seems that condescending bible thumpers and atheists both try to push their opinion on others........and both have the same old same old arguments I've heard a hundred times before......and while they are both free to post their opposing nonsense, I am also free to mock those posts

Fair enough.

I actually see little condesention here from either side and more of a discussion but we all view things differently. I like seeing extreme views as well because sometimes it helps me to better understand why we need balance or just how far a held position can go.

Those elk near those lions are a tad scary though. Keep 'em safe k?

Is the bible anything other than ancient literature about an ancient peoples belief? The bible supposedly spans a time of a few thousand years then all of a sudden like, ends. There is no further appearances or prophesies, nobody who represents, no further discussion... it all just goes silent. Did their god stop caring? Did it stop communicating? And why, in god's name, did it only communicate with a backward tribal peoples in one geographical location in one historical time frame? If god is love then why didn't it communicate with all it's children in all geographical locations in all historical time frames? This whole born again thing wreaks of exclusivity and being "special", which as Freud would say smacks of over compensating for feelings of inadequacy.

Are you looking for proof that God exists? Belief doesn't come through the five senses. In Jesus' day, he performed many miracles before the eyes of many people. Even so, not every person that witnessed these miracles believed what Jesus taught. "Proof" doesn't give birth to faith. Evidence doesn't produce belief. This is in regards to spiritual matters. I am not speaking of chemistry, physics and sciences.

nope, don't give it a thought, there is only 24 hours in a day, i make every minute and hour count with
constructive thoughts about living a good life, for myself and others, waiting and looking for proof of
something like that is a waste of time, i don't wast time.

The bible is stuffed full of the science of natural philosophy which at one time, not so long ago, was universally shared and understood. The Greek renditions are not at all at odds with native North Americans or Austrailians. The bible spans the entire span of incarnation in the material world. So to does all human traditions and cultures. Of course Satan (materialism) has been driven in between all the peoples and their very sound and useful natural philosophies. The Bible was a revolutionary tool, the word was weaponized and the ultimate victim template laid down. And none of that was novel, even then in a period of recovery after a great destruction of that region which destroyed Troy. Around that time the planet was undergoing catastrophic upheaval, the science and the civilizations were wiped out and became the victims of those who remembered.

I learned at a young age that being a part of any religion - let alone the catholic one - was a complete waste of my time. I have my family, my children, but most importantly a sense of complete fulfilment in knowing what I really want to get out of life.

But to each their own, and if you really need such a belief system to get you there then go for it.

Proof? No, I don't think that's possible either way. I'd be interested to see any evidence at all. It's true that absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence, but it is if the evidence ought to be there and it's not. I've seen no evidence or argument in support of the claim that the Abrahamic god at the core of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam exists that doesn't equally apply to any of the thousands of other deities humanity has invented, or doesn't admit of more prosaic explanations.

Have you ever considered that through evolution humans have mostly lost their connection with the sixth sense and there is a methodology within religions to stimulate what little remains?

Pretty much my thoughts on the subject. I'm not looking for proof or evidence though it would be nice to see some. I do not believe there is a god because I have seen nothing to suggest there is one. I could be convinced there is one if the evidence supported it but it but I could not be convinced to worship it.

What sixth sense would that be?

Omigawd (scuse the pun), he finally states his point. Unfortunately it's in dire need of sharpening. :D

What sixth sense would that be?
The 6th one, silly. Not the 2nd or the 18th, but the 6th.

No, not in those terms. If we've lost touch with this sixth sense, whatever it is, through evolution then clearly either it has no survival value or has negative survival value. It's clear that there are techniques within religions to induce altered states of consciousness, like the auto-hypnotic effect of saying the rosary repeatedly, but that sort of thing is readily explicable in terms of brain function specialisation and differentiation. Jill Bolte Taylor, a neuroscientist who had a major left hemisphere stroke at an early age, has much to say about it in her book, My Stroke of Insight.
