IMPHO,

Poor choice of words.
I'll say what I want with dignity and civility.
Our freedom of speech is not censored....in my experience.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!

I said Teddy Kennedy when I meant Teddy Roosevelt!!!!!!

A wonder lightening did not strike me dead..........I apologize to the memory of Mr. Roosevelt...........

lol... see, it would have paid for me to ask who the hell teddy kennedy was, because I didn't think he'd been around that long. But it's so hard to tell with old people.

In other words, I just read a string of posts that say "I'm not Christian."

You really shouldn't say that in Texas. As far as we all know, either you are Christian or Jewish. Both of those are OK, but it is very risky to say that here. People wouldn't kill you, but suddenly, you'd have the worst BO on the planet. Anyone within a hundred miles would gradually evaporate and/or move away from you. It is not a topic which we discuss in polite society.

Uncle

So what you're saying is Texas is full of intollerant people?

You keep away from those who are different from you?

Anybody who is not Jewish or Christian isn't good enough for your standards down there?

I'm not trying to attack you with these questions, I am just expressing how it sounds to me when I read what you posted. From what I read so far, everybody moves away from you like you're satan himself if you don't follow one of the two religions you spoke of above. They'll pretty well cast you out of the community if you don't agree with their beliefs or views

Doesn't sound very Christian to me.

Added:

As it goes for things you can't say in Canada.... well, that depends on what it is... publically talking about molesting or beating your kids would be one thing..... I dunno.... it's gotta be pretty bad.

But in response to Colpy's comments on the Valley area folk..... there are cases of that occuring there.... that doesn't mean it's a thing talked about everyday in Tim's like a normal thing. It happens, but it certainly not brought out in the public and normally kept under wraps as best as possible.

Ooohhh okay

you can't say "I think 9-11 was not exactly what it was made to appear" or "I think our entire involvement in the 'war on terror' was/is a gigantic sham"

In some places you can't say "BOY Molson Canadian tastes like horse p!ss"

The media can't seem to come right out and say "American owned Tim Hortons LTD posted more gains this quarter" (it's ALWAYS "Canadian Coffee Giant" to make folks all warm and fuzzy and feel like they're being patriotic buying stuff there)

and you CAN say "I think that behind-closed-doors, secret-from-the-public SPP is probably a REAL bad idea" but no-one will know or care

?

I say plenty in regards to 9/11 when I feel like it, I also question some aspects of Afghanistan..... I ask questions whether they are popular or not, and I honestly don't care what other's think in regards to me keeping my mouth shut.... if nobody brings attention to something, nothing will ever get done and no answers will be found.

I can say and talk about any and all of those things and not have to worry about my surrounding community cutting me off or moving away because I have opinions that do not match their own..... the people I live around have their own opinions, and I have my own.... perhaps it's just in the area where I live and not anywhere else in the country, but many here are quite tollerant to various ideals and concepts, so long as they do not promote the harm of another person.

What you really cant say in Canada is the same as in the US

" I support Group X" (to someone in group Y)

Communities are becoming very insular and excluding anyone with opposing views, leading to increased extremism.

Oh don't get me wrong, I say all that stuff and more, as do many of my buddies, it's just the kind of thing that doesn't necessarily start a meaningful conversation in many cases

Try these:

I think Global Warming is not a threat to the planet.
Universal social programs have made Canadians unable to rely on themselves. At the first sign of trouble they demand action from the government instead of acting themselves.
Hand gun laws are too restrictive, I'd like to carry my weapon with me at all times for self defense.
The CBC's hockey night in Canada sucks.

It is a threat proven by science something god loving cons fear.

Like health care which is cheaper in Canada, businesses don't have to cover and is accessible to all, not just those who can afford it.

Just like driving down an LA hwy.

I own 2 guns and I have no desire to carry them around, unlike a con I'm not afraid of what's behind every corner.

The CBC's hockey night in Canada sucks.

Only if you like the slow pace of.......baseball....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The point was that saying any of those at a social gathering will result in either a fierce rebuke, like you have provided, or fewer and fewer people willing to chat with you. You don't have to believe them. You could also go with the ultimate, 'That George W is one smart guy'. You have to time that statement well so that no one is drinking or eating when you say it or you might get sprayed.

OK, enough of the Texas bashing. You've had your fun. I asked a serious question.

In Canada, what should you not say?

I only gave that example since it was in a recent post, and it struck me that it is not something you would say in Texas. Can you call the Queen a b*tch? Can you use the N-word in private conversation? What do the other Canadians call the Quebec folks?

I already know one word that you can't say in Canada. My best friend told me. It is a silly meaningless word in the US. What are some of the others? Incidentally, you would not say you are Jewish either here, unless your relationship with that given person is beyond a passing acquaintance.

In all seriousness, in Texas you can't say your christian or people avoid you like the plague. I have many friends in Texas. I don't visit often, but thats because I hate texas with a burning passion of a thousand suns, almost entirely because the place seems to be heated by the burning of a thousand suns.

Unless your in a very christian Area, in which case you have to loudly proclaim how christian you are.

Basically in Texas, you cant' say you are different in any real way than the people you are standing near.

And you know what? In Canada its 100% the same.
