But this system presumes there are parents at home with the time and energy to make sure kids actually DO their homework.

And it does not help that entitled teachers have now decided it is NOT part of their job description to warn parents when kids are struggling- for fear of damaging kids egos- so they say but the real reason is to protect teacher egos! The learning of math and spelling and grammar requires regular REPETITION and regular correction- something teachers have decided is an un- necessary BORE! Lazy Wins the education battle!
LIE-berals have aided our lazy teachers by telling us that it is bad for kids egos to have failings pointed out- so kids are allowed to DRIFT through the lower grades- and of course when they get to higher grades where they are supposed to be already motivated and in possession of all the basics- spelling, grammar, math knowledge- then they start to REALLY STRUGGLE! And when confronted- teachers whine they do not have enough money!
Teachers and LIE-berals do not like it when parents see kids struggle academically - it makes their teaching methods and silly focus on child ego look deliberately BAD! This is why Conservatives IMPOSED the EQAO literacy tests- as a way to keep Hog teachers halfway HONEST about what our kids are REALLY LEARNING!

The number of kids with “learning disabilities” is expanding VERY RAPIDLY- even as test scores DROP!

Levitt used various methods of statistical analysis on the test results- with the result that 35 percent of kids in the district were required to write a new test to produce HONEST Scores- in addition 25 percent of teachers were warned NOT to cheat in future or they would be fired- in addition 5 percent of teachers in that board WERE FIRED for their overt cheating! The worst of the teachers did things such as show the tests to the kids before hand- so they could study specific answers, teachers corrected answers during the test, gave kids extra time to complete the test and etc.
Now magazine in Toronto printed an article about ways to fake the test scores- back when literacy testing was in its early days in Ontari-owe. Now printed a number of letters from Yankee teachers re literacy testing- which some Yankee states have had longer than Ontari-owe. The Yankee testers hired young teachers- who wanted extra cash- to MARK the tests over the summer months and these idiot Hogs wrote in to Now to tell us what sort of SLOPPY. LAZY CHEATS they were! Teachers used to be able to tell a kid: you have been bad so you will stay after school as punishment- BUT NO LONGER! Now the kid has to be on the bus or miss the ride back home! And teachers will not keep a kid in from recess since it would impinge on THEIR BREAK TIME!
So called cooperative learning only works with elite students who are already highly motivated and find learning easy! HARTFORD, Conn. — The developer of a school shooting video game condemned by parents of slain children has lost the ability to sell its products online after being dumped by PayPal.
Acid Software said Tuesday that purchases of “Active Shooter” were “temporarily disabled” as its representatives tried to resolve the issues with PayPal. Acid’s postings on Twitter and an online bulletin board included the hashtags “QuitCensoringUs,” ”FreedomOfExpression“ and ”WeWillBeBack.“
PayPal confirmed it closed the account.
“PayPal has a longstanding, well-defined and consistently enforced Acceptable Use Policy, and regardless of the individual or organization in question, we work to ensure that our services are not used to accept payments for activities that promote violence,” the company, based in San Jose, California, said in a statement Wednesday.
“Active Shooter” is branded as a “SWAT simulator” that lets players choose between being an active shooter terrorizing a school or the SWAT team responding to the shooting. Players can choose a gun, grenade or knife, and civilian and police death totals are shown on the screen. Acid was selling an early version of the game online for $20 and plans to release a new version early next month.
Acid recently set up two websites for “Active Shooter” after the game was removed from the webpages of video game marketplace Steam and crowdfunding site Indiegogo. The removals followed complaints and online petitions by anti-gun violence advocates including parents of children killed in school shootings in Parkland, Florida, where 17 students and staff died in February, and Newtown, Connecticut, where 26 children and staff died in 2012.
A company that hosted the new websites removed them last week after receiving similar complaints. But Acid got the sites back up and running by switching to Russian servers, said an Acid representative, Ata Berdyev, of Seattle.
“Active Shooter” was created by Anton Makarevskiy, a 21-year-old developer from Moscow, Russia, and is being marketed by his entity Acid Software. Berdyev is helping Makarevskiy promote the game.
Berdyev said Wednesday that the future of the game could now be in doubt.
“Seems like everyone in US trying to censor us, whilst not explaining what exactly we are violating,” Berdyev said in a message to The Associated Press.

I believe that any school shooting since at least Columbine would have to have been somewhat influenced by the gaming culture - and just like the way all the movie action heroes deny their onscreen violence and gun worship contribute to actual violence the gaming business tries to minimize and deny their influence.
Its a funny thing- I have a relative with 2 boys- and she would NEVER let toy guns or video games into the house!
And yet both boys grew up to be avid DEER HUNTERS and enthusiastic fishermen!

Police arrest nearly 70 people in overnight raids targeting Five Point Generalz street gang
Some 70 people allegedly affiliated with a violent west-end street gang were arrested in raids overnight Thursday, Toronto police said.
More than 800 police officers executed some 50 warrants targeting the Five Point Generalz, an alleged criminal group that has roots in the area of Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West.
The raids were the result of a nine-month investigation into the gang dubbed Project Patton, according to Chief Mark Saunders. Arrests were made in Toronto, Durham, York and Peel regions.
During a news conference at Toronto police headquarters, Saunders said the group has been "operating as a highly co-ordinated criminal organization" that has ties to other criminal elements in the U.S. and Caribbean.
Police recovered a "large quantity" of drugs and firearms during the raids, Saunders said. He also alleged the group is responsible for "numerous violent offences" throughout Toronto, though declined to provide specifics.
"This gang had definite significant impact on violent crimes occurring across the city, but specifically within that area of the city, the west end of the city," he said.
The chief said more information about charges and the details of Project Patton is coming this week.
"The investigation is fluid and there will be more arrests," Saunders told reporters, adding that the probe "dismantled" a significant element of the gang.
The raids come amid a recent spate of gun violence in the GTA, including a shooting at a Scarborough playground that left two girls injured. Saunders denied that public pressure played a role in the decision to execute the warrants now.
The Five Point Generalz have a long history in Toronto, and have been the target of large-scale police investigations in the past.

The raids were the result of a nine-month investigation into the gang dubbed Project Patton, according to Chief Mark Saunders. Arrests were made in Toronto, Durham, York and Peel regions.
During a news conference at Toronto police headquarters, Saunders said the group has been "operating as a highly co-ordinated criminal organization" that has ties to other criminal elements in the U.S. and Caribbean.
Police recovered a "large quantity" of drugs and firearms during the raids, Saunders said. He also alleged the group is responsible for "numerous violent offences" throughout Toronto, though declined to provide specifics.
"This gang had definite significant impact on violent crimes occurring across the city, but specifically within that area of the city, the west end of the city," he said.
The chief said more information about charges and the details of Project Patton is coming this week.
"The investigation is fluid and there will be more arrests," Saunders told reporters, adding that the probe "dismantled" a significant element of the gang.
The raids come amid a recent spate of gun violence in the GTA, including a shooting at a Scarborough playground that left two girls injured. Saunders denied that public pressure played a role in the decision to execute the warrants now.
The Five Point Generalz have a long history in Toronto, and have been the target of large-scale police investigations in the past.

I would also argue that as video games have become more popular and more realistic, crime in all categories has been dropping steadily. So maybe video games decrease violence, though of course I would never claim that, because I'm not stupid enough to think that correlation is causation.

Judge shortage puts fraud trial in jeopardy

Kiss a $14-million fraud case goodbye.
The frustration in the downtown Toronto courtroom was palpable. A scheme that allegedly defrauded 5,000 investors across Canada is now in “extreme jeopardy” after a judge shortage forced Superior Court Justice John McMahon to postpone the trial until January 2019. That will make it 60 months from the date of arrest to get to trial, double the 30-month maximum set out in the Supreme Court case known as R v. Jordan.
It’s not often that a Superior Court judge publicly decries the state of the judicial system, but Thursday morning, McMahon made his dismay known.
“The frustration of this court is with not having sufficient resources to do the job despite everybody’s best efforts,” McMahon said. “I apologize to you. I apologize to the Crown. I just don’t have a judge to do a 12-week trial.”
(Isnt it odd that LIE-berals can find judges to interview the teeming tens of thousands of illegals that they have invited here with no more thought than if LIE-berals were crazy cat ladies rounding up strays but they cannot find time to deal with REAL CRIMINALS! The Toronto courthouse has 44 scheduled homicide trials this year alone, he said, and when he reached out to colleagues in neighbouring regions , neither Newmarket nor Brampton had judges they could spare to conduct a three-month trial.
“It’s frustrating, but we can only do what we can do,” he said. “I’ve exhausted every remedy I have.”
Does this mean open season for white collar criminals because there’s no room for complicated trials in Toronto’s courts?

At stake is a complicated fraud case against five men accused of operating a sophisticated tax shelter scheme between 2009 and 2014 that promised investors generous refunds from the Canada Revenue Agency. Integrated Business Consultants Association (IBCA), and a related company, Synergy, raised over $13 million from investors on the promise their investment would provide small businesses with start-up capital and they could then claim any business losses against their personal income taxes.
The RCMP alleged the investment money didn’t go to small businesses but to pay commissions, salaries and expenses of the accused and the companies. When investors tried to claim the “losses” on their tax return, CRA disallowed the deductions and reassessed them.
Charged with fraud are Vincent Villanti, 70, Shane Smith, 50, David Prentice, 56, Ravendra Chaudhary, 69, and Andrew Lloyd, 46. The men have been on bail since their arrest in March 2014.
Lawyers on both sides predict the case will ultimately be tossed for unreasonable delay.
“It’s been four years and now you’ve just heard it’ll be another year before this goes to trial and there’s no crime here,” insisted Paul Riley, lawyer for Villanti. “That’s way too long when you’re presumed innocent. This has to be thrown out down the road, it has to be.”
The defence lawyer argues this case isn’t a criminal matter. “The court doesn’t have room for this. A 12-week trial over something where there’s no victim of crime, these guys are not alleged to have committed a violent act, none of them have a criminal charge against them in their whole history, and you want to tie up an overflowing court system with this? No.”
(A lawyer says that deliberate self serving LIES and misrepresentation of business facts is not criminal? Makes you wonder what LIE-beral law school the goof went to? And it makes me wish to see the lawyer in a cell along with his clients!)
Smith suffered a heart attack while the charges have been hanging over him. “It’s been devastating,” said the Peterborough man, who is representing himself because he can’t afford a lawyer for a three-month trial. “I’ve had a heart attack, I’ve lost my home, I’ve lost my job.”
(Oh the poor suffering baby- screwing with Revenue Canada is not a game for the faint of heart!)
The federal government has just promised six new judges for the Ontario Superior Court, but they won’t be in place in time to help with this case. So prosecutors walked out of court knowing their years of preparation may all be for naught. “I think it’s tragic,” said assistant Crown attorney Michael Luckner. “It’s frustrating for all the victims in this case. For everybody really.”
(Bad enough that the thieves may walk free- even worse to know we PAID BIG MONEY for prosecutors and cops to build a case that will never be used! It is a uniquely LIE-beral form of WASTE!)
“We’re in great jeopardy of losing the case,” added co-prosecutor Helen Song. “It’s frustrating for (the complainants). We’ve had them waiting on stand by, we’ve made travel arrangements for them, and then all to have everything cancelled, it’s upsetting.”
(NO kidding- the complainants have been ROBBED- in some cases of life savings and seeing the thieves be sentenced might ease the hurt a little- but LIE-berals will deny even that small satisfaction as they need OUR MONEY for THEIR gravy and other priorities!)
Now chances are that their allegations will never come to trial at all. “Some of their lives have been devastated from this,” Song said, “and to not have a forum to explain what happened is upsetting.”
Not all crimes are violent ones. And its victims still deserve their day in court.
