Don't you get ideas sometimes about stuff you hadn't thought of before?

Ahhh yes, the beauty of my logic has transformed the lives (and the opinions) of millions. Not.

Nobody convinces anyone of anything by arguing on the net.

Or not often, anyway.

I disagree with you, and you will never convince me of that. ;)

12 Reasons Why You Should Own a Gun

1. Because You Own a Fire Extinguisher. Bad things happen. You can still call 911, but when seconds count, you need to act quickly to save your life and the life of those you love.

2. Because Shooting Is An Olympic Sport. Shooting is an Olympic sport and the United States holds more gold medals than any other nation.

3. Because Many Americans Own Guns. You'll be in good company as a gun owner; nearly fifty percent of households in the U.S. own a firearm.

4. Because You Respect The U.S. Constitution. Sometimes you won’t like it when people exercise fundamental freedoms protected by the Constitution, such as freedom of speech. But that simply doesn’t matter: The Supreme Court ruled that every person has a constitutional right to own guns. So respecting the Constitution means respecting the right of others to exercise those constitutional rights.

5. Because You Are More Likely to Die By Falling. There were 613 fatal firearms accidents in 2007, one-half of one percent of all fatal accidents. You're more likely to die by driving, poisoning, drowning or falling than by a gun accident.

6. Because Guns Stop Burglars. Last year, the CDC estimated that Americans used guns about 498,000 times to frighten away intruders attempting to break into homes.

7. Because Gun Bans Increase Murder Rates. After D.C. banned handguns in 1984, the average murder rate jumped 73 percent while the U.S. murder rate fell 11 percent.

8. Because Guns Don’t Cause Murder. A New York Times study of 1,662 murders in the city found that 90 percent of the killers had criminal records. Murderers are not ordinary, law abiding adults. Instead, virtually all murderers are extremely aberrant individuals with life histories of violence, psychopathology, and substance abuse.

9. Because Gun Owners Win Political Battles. Gun rights groups have donated $22 million in political campaigns over the last decade, while gun control groups gave $1.8 million.

10. Because Ignorance is Dangerous. At current homicide rates, Aprx 5 in 100,000 Americans will be murdered this year. You need to know how to operate a tool that will immediately stop a threat and save your life and the life of those in your household.

11. Because Guns Don’t Make Countries More Dangerous. Switzerland has one of the world’s highest gun ownership rates and also one of the lowest homicide rates. In contrast, the countries with the world’s worst homicide rates—South Africa, Columbia, Brazil, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan—also prohibit law-abiding citizens from owning guns. Compare the 20 per 100,000 homicide rate in Russia, which bans guns, with the 2 per 100,000 rate in neighboring Poland. Compare gun-free Luxembourg’s 9 per 100,000 murder rate with Germany and France with rates of 0.93 and 1.65.

12. Because Gun Control Laws Don’t Increase Safety. The U.S. National Academy of Sciences failed to identify even one gun control measure that had a statistically significant reduction in violent crime, suicide, or gun accidents. The Center for Disease Control reached the same conclusion in 2003.
Yup, ....You too can be like the Chief of Police who shot his wife with a loaded gun he was attempting to move about while in the bed!!

What a delightful way to wake up eh?? I must look up the case to see if she survived.

OK that is a reason why cops should not have guns. What about law abiding citizens?

As I said, you too can join the group......simply take the tests buy the gun, then go to bed with it close by and loaded........then shift it about to get more comfortable.
I do not think he was sleeping with it in the bed with him, although, I must check that. I did meet a man down here who did sleep with one loaded under his pillow. To each his own. Go for it if your wife will let you. If she is smart though she will sleep elsewhere.

Northern Ontario,
To show the stupidity of ...maybe not the storage regulations but the interpretation of said regulations.....
A few years ago...my nephew (now retired) was living in Temagami Ontario, and while working in Alberta, finds out his house was broken into....Finally, he's on the phone with the OPP in his house and they tell him his only damage is his liquor cabinet is empty and so is his gun cabinet....would he please tell them where the registration papers are for his guns....
So he goes and tells them the guns are not in his cabinet but well hidden and they have a hard time to find them evenwith his instructions...
That's when they charge him for illegally storing his guns and they get confiscated..
When he comes back, a month later, just in time for his court date and explains to the judge, how he hid his guns and how the police had a hard time to find them....the judge asked the officer..."If the guns had been in the cabinet (in proper storage??) where would they be?
After the obvious answer from the police..the judge said "Return this man's property...case dismissed"
Smart Judge...

Who is their right ... ok, left ... mind wants gun control?

Surely, no real patriot wants that.

Therefore, we are all in agreement with the New Black Panthers:

Ah, finally. A gun club President Barack Obama can support.

The New Black Panther Party has been suspiciously silent since their unfortunate part in the Ferguson debacle. Thankfully, for those of you following the zany antics of Eric Holder’s favorite group of militants, they’ve popped up again.

This time, they’re fronting a paramilitary firearms organization in Texas.

The Huey P. Newton Gun Club (really? You couldn’t even use H. Rap Brown or Stokely Carmichael as a namesake?) has been conducting armed drills in Dallas for some time now.

The club was founded by Charles Goodson, described as a “31-year-old dreadlocked vegan,” and Darren X, who is the national field marshal for the New Black Panther Party.

“We accept all oppressed people of color with weapons,” Darren X told Vice. “The complete agenda involves going into our communities and educating our people on federal, state and local gun laws. We want to stop fratricide, genocide — all the ‘cides.”

I would like to here reiterate that this is neither a joke nor a “Chappelle’s Show” sketch.

Given its frontier reputation, Texas is surprisingly one of the few states that doesn’t allow concealed carry. However, it does allow the open carry of firearms, which the group uses to an alarming effect.

It is interesting that this conservative web site calls them a "gang" while other groupings are called militias. Why do you suppose that is so?

I met several Guardian Angels in the NYC subways over the years - always found them to be very friendly and eager to chat with and please the passengers. Good to have them around as their presence makes it safe for the public. :)

Have they arrested anyone yet? Stopped a crime? Settled a domestic dispute?

Or are they just there.

I can answer that one: in the past, Guardian Angels arrived at subway crime scenes and detained suspects - they would alarm the police who for far too long would take their sweet time about answering alarms. With the presence of the GA they had no choice but to appear quickly. This irked the cops who would rather go on coffee break, munch down a couple of donuts, and then answer an alarm an hour later long after a suspect has gotten away. GA helped put a stop to that.

Now there are security cameras everywhere which show the time on them - when an alarm is sounded the cops have to respond immediately or they are held accountable.

Still it's good to have the GA as they serve as deterrents to crimes. Ask anyone who rides the subways late at night to see if they don't agree.

Gun control is anti-Darwinian!

Former cop sues Kentucky hunting store after accidentally shooting off his own finger

By Sarah LarimerJanuary 13
A former police officer has filed suit against a hunting and fishing store in Kentucky after shooting off his own finger when an employee gave him a loaded gun.
“He’s had multiple surgeries, thousands of dollars in medical expenses,” Smith’s attorney, B. Alan Simpson, told The Post in a phone interview Tuesday.
The accident at Barren Outdoors happened on March 26, when Darrell Smith asked to see a .380-caliber handgun, according to court documents. Simpson said Smith was merely curious about the gun and wanted to take a look.
“He was not necessarily going in to buy a specific gun or something like that,” Simpson said. “He just happened to be browsing through the cases and this particular gun caught his eye.”
The bullet passed through two fingers, and doctors couldn’t save Smith’s left index finger, Simpson said.
You can watch security footage from store here, and while it’s not gory or anything, I will remind you that it is a video of a person getting his finger shot off.
“Under no circumstances should they have had a loaded weapon in a display case to start with,” Simpson said. “The first problem clearly is that whenever this gun was brought into their inventory, they never checked the weapon. And right before they handed it to Mr. Smith, they obviously never checked the weapon a second time.”
Smith, who worked in law enforcement for about 30 years, is now unemployed, Simpson said.
The court documents, filed Friday in Barren Circuit Court, are below.
Attempts to locate an attorney for Barren Outdoors were unsuccessful. The store, which is located in Glasgow, Ky., declined to comment to WBKO,Bowling Green’s ABC affiliate.
