"We’re reaching out, we’re engaging local business owners, and we’re going to work together to find ways to help them grow and prosper."
A fair portion of Mulcair's speech reaffirmed the party's commitment to strengthening public pensions. He cited the recent meeting of provincial finance ministers to discuss the Canada Pension Plan, which ended with the provinces accusing the federal finance minister of blocking CPP reform.
"In a shameful betrayal of their own promises, this government turned its back on any semblance of leadership," Mulcair said.
Notably, Mulcair indicated that his party will call for a youth employment tax credit, as well restore the retirement age to 65. In the 2012 budget, the Conservative government had delayed the age at which workers could access Old Age Security benefits to 67.

While I basically agree with "survival of the fittest", I think we do have to be a little selective about it. Sometimes sh*t happens for no other reason than bad luck and I don't agree with letting people fall through the cracks because of a single episode of bad luck. Many times I think we'd be better off if the "safety net" was in the form of a loan rather than a gift, hence ensuring there will always be money available for those in need.

I don't know about a loan as such but certainly there has to be strings attached. I have to do D&A tests to go to work so it is only right that those collecting tax money have to do the same.

The number one cause of childhood poverty is kids being born out of wedlock. Stupid single moms and their baby daddies. The best chance of being poor is having a child before you can afford it and all the gubmint childcare in the world won't help.
That would either help to cut down on over population since most people are unable to save up enough to raise a child to 18yrs of age before they are unable to actually have children or it will increase the risk of children with mental disabilities cause only those 40+ will have saved enough to have children.

do you ever worry about a false positive? Is there recourse should a cold medicine or prescription come up as a positive for illegal drugs or alcohol? I ask purely out of curiousity. It's something we always hear about, false positives.
I'd like to see periodic random checks just to be sure the stuff taxes are paying for is actually in the blood in expected amounts and not being sold on the streets or traded for a drug of choice

the drug trade would flourish if those on assistance had to account for every single choice they made with regards to the money they were given. There would be so many children in foster care and the foster homes would also have to be micro managed and it would get impossible to manage, financially and manpower wise.
I think a better way is simular to what is done in several places in the States. The State pays the landlord directly. Any additional rent would come from tenant (welfare user). Food is by food stamps. The amount of cash doled out is next to 0. No abuses or people taking their cheque and spending it on crack or weed.
