The true measurement of a nation is determined by how it treats its most
disadvantaged. The biggest problem we face is we don't distinguish between
what is an expense and what is an investment for the good of the nation.
We buy everything military these days. Now if we bought subs that worked
or trucks from somewhere other than Italy that would at least plow snow,
it might be an investment. We bought and cancelled helicopter, and we are
buying new jets we don't need and won't do the job. Of course we've gone
from peacekeeping to front line action which means we have to replace
what gets destroyed.
We can't afford to help the poor or see kids get proper meals we are too busy
giving out tax breaks to companies and the wealthy so they can put the money
in foreign banks to avoid paying taxes. How is it we can afford ninety two million
a year for a Senate that is useless and we can't afford to look after veterans who
actually served our country. Our nation has become dysfunctional even beyond
what the Liberals were like. It is time to kick these guys out.

ANd replace them with?????Oh yea the clowns we kicked out last time because they have an even worse leader now than they had before.

Yep, as bad as they are, changing horses now would be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire! We sure don't need Junior at the helm.

The first thing that all governments have to do is put a stop to deficit financing and get out of debt. Households must do the same.

You've never had a mortgage or loan payment? People like myself would never have received post-secondary education without financing, ie debt. The idea that all debt is bad is foolish, and a non-starter. Even large corporations borrow from banks or other lenders, or issue bonds. Most entrepreneurs didn't start out rich either.

It is more and more likely Harper won't be PM by the time the election rolls around.
This government is a government not bent on restructuring the present programs
that are in trouble they are abandoning them slowly. The reason the programs
are in trouble is not so much there are too many seniors or they are too costly.
The real problem is that the two leading parties over time have raided the funds
we paid in, in trust they would be used for the intended purpose.
EI is a prime example, pension funds are another.
Provincially the ICBC fund is raided for hundreds of millions then we're told we are
bad drivers. The fact is governments are bad money managers. We paid for the
services and now the government through mismanagement is welching on the deal.
A downturn is coming and closing in on us. We are dependent on low interest rates
to keep the system going. Some say in the Great Depression about 25 to 30 percent
of the people were affected. If we have another more than 80% will feel it and it
would last a generation. Think of the upheaval that would cause.

One of the worst examples was as soon as C.P.P. got started about 1966 the Gov't of the day was robbing it to make payments to injured workers, a role that W.C.B. should have been looking after. As far as B.C. goes we can't deny we have our share of bad drivers, and one of the mistakes they are making is to charge them high premiums when the bastards shouldn't be on the road period. People who are almost certainly going to kill or severely injure someone should not be on the road at any price. Cancel their drivers license indefinitely.

And you don't think Junior is arrogant? Silly boy!

Politicians, like babies, should be changed regularly, and for the same reason.

As for Justin Trudeau, I don't know the man. All I see are the projection the Liberals want me to see, and the projection the Conservatives want me to see. Smoke and mirrors in other words.

I'm all for switching out Harper, but it HAS to be for someone who is better than he is. We don't want anyone who is merely going to raise taxes! I do think we should be vigilant about hold his toes to the fire until he gets rid of the senate.

No different things. There is a difference between borrowing for an asset such as a house, car, education than borrowing for a vacation or in the government case borrowing for infrastructure vs borrowing for more social programs.

Who's to say/ They borrowed money to balance the books. That is deficit spending. If it was for a specific infrastructure project it should be noted as such. ANd really borrowing for infrastructure is debt, not deficit.

Depends a lot on your definition of poor. I do know people without money and are quite happy about it. Got a small piece of land and grow most of what they need and don't much care about what so many insist they must own.

True. Technically I grew up in a home barely above the Canadian version of the poverty line but it was still a pretty comfortable upbringing. I always had food, shelter, security. I wouldnt want to live my whole life in that situation but it wasnt all that bad particularly compared to how some others have it.

Canadians east of Thunder Bay want to be like France. Canadians west of Thunder Bay want to be like Canada.

Canada's origins are all east of Thunder Bay. The west came a fair bit later.

And you don't think Junior is arrogant? Silly boy!

Most political leaders are.

Im not a supporter of his but I see no problem with giving others a shot. Yeah its a risk, but thats the case no matter who you put in - or even keeping whats there now. There is never any certainty on anything in politics.

Harper isnt going to get rid of the Senate. Neither will any of the leaders currently in the house of commons. No one wants to touch the constitution. Like it or not thats what will have to happen for meaningful reform or abolition. They are all too scared to go near it. Hopefully someone will eventually though.

I don't care that much about taxes. When they go up, they go up a couple of hundred bucks, and when they go down, they go down a couple of hundred bucks. Whatevs. There's more to life than money. As a matter of fact, I find this obsession with the ups and downs of the economy rather dreary. The entire market is a game, all those six-figure analysts and eight-figure hedge fund managers are basically gambling. They act like they can predict the market, but they can't. Virtually no one saw 1929 coming. Almost 80 years of progress adn science later and no one saw the 2008 bubble-burst coming either.

My biggest concern at the moment is that the government does not seem to want anyone to know what they are up to, yet they seem more and more interested in exactly what I am up to. However, I don't imagine that will change much regardless of who sits on the throne.

I kinda thought that too. Both crashes were engineered demolitions. Those in the in crowd were fully aware and made a killing off the poor schmucks who went down the tubes and jumped out of windows.
