America was able to establish geopolitical hegemony in the Middle East after the Yom Kippur War of Oct. 1973 and the Arab Oil Embargo. Henry Kissinger established the framework that has lasted for forty years. American hegemony in the Middle East gave America great control over the resources of the region.

It has been astonishing to observe the destruction of American hegemony in that region in just two years. American power seems like sands slipping through fingers.

America is no longer the pivotal power in the Middle East. It is being replaced by a new power structure involving the Russian, Iran, Syria and Hezbollah alliance. This has happened with breathtaking speed.

Americans don't seem to care. Perhaps that's because they don't realize that economic benefits follow political power.

WSJ op-ed writer Elizabeth O’Bagy fired for resume lie

The Syria researcher whose Wall Street Journal op-ed piece was cited by Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain during congressional hearings about the use of force has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for lying about having a Ph.D., the group announced on Wednesday.

“The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth O’Bagy does not in fact have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University,” the institute said in a statement. “ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. O’Bagy’s employment, effective immediately.”

My knowledge of the whole thing is pretty superficial from grasping at bits and pieces on the news, but there is one thing I have a problem with............up until a couple of days ago from what I understand, Syria was lying through its teeth, now they want to make a deal. Maybe Obama's plan makes more sense!

Obama's plan? You aren't talking about Putin's plan or are you in agreement with Obama about an attack on Syria?

They had no interest until the Soviets did and that goes back to Eisenhower in 1953 when the US set up a sh*tload of bases, arms and training for the Saudis while the Soviets were setting up shop in Egypt.

Syria was lying through its teeth, now they want to make a deal. Maybe Obama's plan makes more sense!
What were they lying about?

Is it really a civil war or is it external mercenaries financed by outside parties?

I was being sarcastic- It is about power- gas- oil- Sunni -Shia and locking Iran in.
Rather nice mix is it not.
If you go back to when Pakistan was first created - Sunni- Shia had no issues - With the Saudi export of their version of Islam- Shia- Alawatite = Heretics. And the killing have increased with Shia on the losing end.
