well.... those against harsher penalties for drinking and driving have done a hell of a job derailing this thread. At one point ya's even managed to vilify MADD. Very good.

Yep, I find it hard to criticize an organization whose main purpose is to save lives and reduce misery.

They should be vilified. According to Sue Storey, who is the co-founder of MADD's Dufferin chapter. "I feel like I have been let down."
Context is everything.

She was speaking of the exorbitant cost expenditures of the charities fund raising and administration.

Although I fully agree with her, she wasn't talking about the charities core message.

That was their initial goal. I'm not so sure that's their purpose today.

The point is, bringing up MADD was only meant to deflect from the OP.

Not really. The point in bringing up MADD is that there is alot of emotional. arguments at play. That's why JLM started regurgitating MADD stats and catch phrases.

...the sprinkler thing was obvious side-tracking - unless one is proposing hosing down a drunk

No it's not. JLM and I are in disagreement as to whether the risk factor and the cost should be compared. The sprinkler issue is very relevant. Unlike impaired driving deaths, fire deaths could very easily be all but eliminated. It's just a matter of money.

Northern Ontario,
Money can be replaced lives can not!
What your dancing partner fails to figure out is that while it costs money to install sprinklers in a house to reduce fire damage and lost lives....it doesn't cost fock-all to not drink and drive......another scarecrow shoot down;-)

I'm not sure why JLM's wife needs to be brought into the discussion but it does cost to chase down process and punish impaired drivers whether you like it or not. At the risk of beating a dead horse, I'm a conservative and I want value for my tax dollars.

Utter bullsh*t. When you are denigrating people the truth works better.

I denigrate bad ideas. I don't denigrate people. Spending money on a problem, when you don't have sufficient data to understand the scope of the problem is a bad idea plain and simple.

Do you have sprinklers in your house?

So then you do believe that money is no object.
That's not what he said.

I'm not surprised that had to be pointed out to you.

I've just noticed it is now possible for a single poster to hand out 2 negs for the same post. How does one get in on that?
It's a glitch in the system, but it does reveal that someone has memory issues he should see his doctor about.
