I support the people, not the governor.Americans are going to have to decide what kind of a country they want.

The Governor's vision for the US: Two classes of people. A tiny elite upper class of wealthy, powerful; connected elite, who can afford private schools and private hospitals. The majority poverty class who live at or below the poverty line, have no hope of sending their children to university, who are expendable. Sounds like Egypt to me.

The striking people's vision: a strong middle class, well educated and able to live decent lives.

The Idiot's vision. People who are in the shrinking middle class and support the governor's vision, even though it means their future is to become poor and powerless...

The New Mafia – Public Unions​

I am always surprised by the media’s (primarily conservative) discovery of facts that should have been obvious years ago and by people’s ignorance of historical facts.

In the twenties and thirties organized crime controlled the lives of the average citizen and, by bribing the police, the judiciary and politicians, operated with impunity. One of the major sources of the Mafia’s income was the “protection racket”. All small businesses, store owners, and tavern and bar owners paid a portion of their sales revenue to the Mafia for “protection”. Since the “protected” business man knew that the thugs who visited him had the backing of law enforcement and that the alternative for not agreeing to pay was the destruction of his business (or worse), the negotiations consisted of the thug demanding what he considered would be fair and affordable and the business man reluctantly and fearfully agreeing.

In the past twenty years, public unions have increased in number and power. The negotiations between the union leaders and politicians for wages, pensions and health care are almost identical in style to those of the Mafia and the small business man seventy or eighty years ago. The union leaders negotiate with politicians who are ideologically tied to the aims and objectives of the unions or depend upon the union leaders and members for campaign contributions and votes. The results of these one-sided negotiations are obscenely high salaries, absurd pension plans and “Cadillac” health plans, all of which are bankrupting many states and will help bankrupt the federal government.

It is only in the last year or two that conservative media and politicians have discovered that public employees’ earn more and have far more perks than equivalent private employees. And, because of their almost unlimited and unchallenged union strength, they want (and will get) still more.

The sad note about all of the above is that it was predictable. A private employee union negotiates with a private business or group of businesses. The process is fair and two-sided. As described above, negotiations between public unions and governments are one-sided and the results have to be favorable to public employees and unfavorable to the rest of us. The left and the union leaders like it that way. The policemen, firemen, teachers and other government employees do not think of themselves as part of a Mafia, but, in truth, they are no different from the Mafia underlings who “negotiated” and collected protection money.

BTW, the Kennedy's and many other prominent American families can trace their wealth back to the days when organized crime controlled the alcohol trade.

That's hillarious! Do you buy your car insurance from the Govt employee Mafia GEICO? How about all those lucky Carpenter Union bastards whose pensions double because their union was smart enough to invest heavily in private companies like Apple? You haven't seen anything yet in terms of American migration to Canada. America is the third most populace country in the world. Only China and India are larger. California by itself is more populace than Canada.

I do believe that a civil servant is no better than those that pay their salaries thru taxes. If one has to pay for example $100 for health benefits, then the other should have to also. If there is no more tax money available then cuts have to be made, unfortunately it is usually those who can least afford it who go first. If it were me, I would start by laying off unnecessary administrative staff first, the get teachers working other school district jobs back in the classrooms. If this keeps up teachers will be asked first to give back some of their salary, then more layoffs. There are states that are right to work states http://www.nrtw.org/d/rtwempl.htm If you work in the other states you will be required to join unions and pay dues if applicable. A good teacher needs nothing but his or her talent to keep a job. Organized crime became our unions.

Lets not forget, the governor was elected by the people, they knew what he was going to do. The people have spoken.

It is 80 where I am right now, please don't take this wrong, but Canada as beautiful as it is still a country by default. I'm sure many would have like it more if it extended a little farther south.

There are far more than two classes of people...I work for a pharmaceutical company, not the government, and the pay scale ranges from hourly wages to seven figures. Multiple classes in between.

You would be surprised what the body can do. Took me two years to adjust to the heat and humidty in Florida, probably another year or two to get used to real winters again.

I know. That's why I left Minnesota for California decades ago. But the world was a different place then.

I have seen California change because of the hopelessness of life in Mexico. Imo there is no stopping the movement of people who have lost hope in their homelands. Canada can't stop them unless it starts killing them. And that won't happen.

The war on Unions and collective bargaining is not limited to the states. The Republican House of Representatives recently presented a bill the would that would defund, in other words abolish, the National Labour Relations Board, the government agency that ensures enforcement of labour laws and the right to organize.

Sixty Republicans voted against it, but 176 voted for it. The Republican Party is really not a conservative party anymore, they are neoconservatives, which is a radical form of libertarianism, without any regard for institutions, including religious institutions, of any sort.

They represent a form of ideological anarchy.. but in effect, really support a corporate tyranny run by the Global investment organism.. to whom unions, and ALL organizations of collective moral advocacy, are a threat.

They know they can control all of them if they control government, and they can control government through control of the media.
