There was a conservative spokesman on CBC this morning saying she should be given some slack because she apologized for her actions. I'm sorry, an apology is not good enough. When are these cronies going to be held accountable for their indiscretions, oversights and outright crime? Forging government documents would get you or I a short stay in the big house. But not these criminals.

Indeed, there have been a number of situations where Con members have done something pretty damn criminal and when they were demanded to be fired, The cons and Harper say it was a silly mistake or goof up that doesn't warrent any sort of punishment or action being taken.

Ha! I guess there is some merit to the idea of not having universal health care coverage after all!

Conservatives only? Only conservatives stoop this low? They're not alone.

Hmmm... OK, I'll grant you this that lately it does seem to be Conservatives mostly who drag themselves in this mud. That's still no reason to tarnish all conservatives with the same brush. And yes, I agree some conservaties are equally guilty of painting all non-conservatives with the same brush too. But still no reason to stoop to their level. I'm sure we can raise the level of discussion a tad above partisan rhetoric.

Corruption would demand that someone profited from the action.....no one did.

It was a stupid, ignorant, unacceptable thing to do.....and then lying about it was so much worse.

She needs to be booted out of cabinet.........if she doesn't resign.

She should (for a change) do the honourable thing.

We aren't in disagreement on this one.

Agreed, however as I see it, it was an approval of funding for a group which was later doctored to look like that funding was denied.... regardless if that funding was prevented later on or not, that to me seems like corruption.... at the very least, "attempted corruption", if there is such a thing, lol.

If it was an honest error and she never once intended to approve funding for this group and only caught the error after the fact, she should have told someone and explained the situation to get it properly corrected, not try and fudge the documents to make it look like she didn't screw up and then try to lie about it afterwards.

among other definitions of Political Corruption:

Political corruption - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"....... An illegal act by an officeholder constitutes political corruption only if the act is directly related to their official duties."

She had committed an illegal act in relation to her duties, thus corruption.

Now just to cover my ass, I'm only finger pointing corruption her way in this particular case, not the entire Conservative Party.

It's a personal gain if nobody finds out that you did something which could cost you your job. That is corruption. She did something she shouldn't have done, the change was discovered, and then she lied to save herself.

I'm watching question period about this issue right now, and I'm wondering why Bev Oda is wearing sunglasses in Parliament. Just curious, does anybody know if she has some kind of eye problem that forces her to wear them?

Naw ... it's pretty much self-inflicted. I suppose a Minister is entitled to change her mind - but altering a signed legal document then fibbing about it goes way beyond crooked.

Actually, DB, you are quite close. KAIROS is a bunch of morons that support the boycott, divestment, and sanctions campaign against Israel........and so was (rightfully) denied funding.

However, Oda's lying to Parliament, as well as her changing a signed document, was beyond the Pale, and she needs to resign, forthwith.

Everyone in the country knows why the funding was cut. There won't be too much squawking and feather ruffling about this by the faux opposition. We don't need an embarasing investigation into the undue foriegn influence of MPs do we?

The funding was cut because this "charity" spent too much time, effort, and cash on crapping on the only democracy (so far) in the ME.

Rightfully so.

Now, as for Oda's method, that was wayyyyy beyond the pale, and lying to Parliament was completely unacceptable (even if common for every party) Oda is a Minister of the Crown, and better things are expected of her, and she obviously needs a long break.

She needs to resign. Now.

I will never understand why Harper insists on allowing these things to fester and increase the negativity, when they are so easily lanced. Seems stupid, for a man as intelligent and skilled in the political arena.

Sometimes they gotta go.
