A National Shame?

town to small to mention
Canada's health care system is puzzling. I find it hard to believe that citizens wait hours in the ER, wait weeks for a simple MRI and wait months or years for simple knee surgery. These facts by themselves constitute what should be Canada's national shame. Yet somehow Canadians are in denial. It is a very dangerous denial that costs lives. Canada, your socialist health care system isn't working properly. It has completely failed, as all socialist programs inevitably do. It already lacks proper funding, and will soon run out of money. Will Canadians be willing to pay even higher taxes to support a failing system and a failed ideology?
Not only are Canadians in denial, they are also deluded. Canadians honestly believe that they have a better health care system than the United States. This is factually untrue. There is no escaping the fact that this belief is a complete lie.
However, your health care system isn't even the worst part about your country. I notice that citizens (if one may even call you that) often rely on the government to make their decisions for them. Do you all have trouble thinking for yourselves? If government says that something is a good idea, Canadians will automatically believe that it is so. It's disturbing. You all pay too much in taxes to support a government that encroaches more and more on your daily lives. Where is the outrage? Are you not individual thinking human beings? Open your eyes. OPEN YOUR EYES!

One word... Apathy!, I am Canadian, and I truly believe we as Canadians , love to complain but we don't do anything about it .. I have been talking to lots of people about our sky rockteting Hydro prices and it makes me so angry to hear people say " There is nothing you can do about it................. DEFEAT ists

Are you insane? Your medical system is going bankrupt!

This coming from the one that is living in a nation with a trillion dollar deficit and multi-trillions in debt... You've got waaayyy bigger problems to worry about than Canada's medical system.

So more government control then, hm?

Still no response to the Patriot Act or the (recent) Arizona legislation, let alone Obamacare being rammed down the throats of people... You want to bitch about gvt control, there are 3 good examples of it with Obamacare being your element of socialized medicine.

Now ask yourself, how do you think it will be paid for?

You better hope we're not going bankrupt. Who's going to take care of you? "The United States has been taking care of Canada ever since the British stopped." - Hank Hill

A quote from King of the Hill.... How compelling. No wonder that your views are myopic. You get your info and world perspective from cartoons.

Has anyone read Mark Steyn's "America Alone"? It will scare the crap out of you. The population ratio for a country must be at 2.1 to keep a population steady. Otherwise that country's population begins to decline. U.S. is steady at 2.1, Spain is 1.1 that means in a generation the population of Spaniards will be cut in half. Canada is at 1.5 That means Canada's population is in serious decline. What does that mean for a country? Well, no babies equals no future workers. No future workers means no one to pay the taxes. No one to pay for the elderly on Medicare (I forgot what the program is called in Canada), and no one to pay for the Canada's health care system. Look it up.

Population demographics is only one part of the equation... You also need an economy and employment to fund the tax base and pay for the services. Canada can open the doors to more immigration a hell of a lot easier (and less expensive) than a nation can develop/save an economy.

Factor that into Steyn's analysis and without that economic vibrancy, having a high birth rate describes a third world nation that has a population problem.

Yes, we exploit you for your natural resources. This is true.

... And now you are competing with China and India for that option... Guess which ones have the cash available to buy into this poker game?

Jordan Johanson, 18, died at Rockyview Hospital in late March. He died following a 12-hour wait for surgery on his appendix. Darcy Johanson, the boy’s father, said “Young kids shouldn’t be dying like this. If something can be done to fix it, they should get on with it.”
“Teen dies after appendix ruptures,” The Edmonton Sun, By Bill Kaufman (April 19, 2007) http://www.edmontonsun.com/News/Albe...9/4078502.html

Do your homework... This man arrived at a Calgary hospital and was informed of a (potentially) long wait. He elected to travel outside of Calgary to go to a rural emergency center for faster access. The trip turned out to be fatal.

The point being, the patient made a decision for which the medical system should not be held entirely accountable.

As I've explained earlier, my family still lives in Canada and has to deal with Canada's crappy system. So it affects me personally, I therefore have every damn right to complain about it.

Put up or shut up. Many people here have informed you of the private facilities available. If you are too cheap to crack open your wallet and provide ideological support for the free market system you so admire, then all you are is a free loader that has the gall to piss and moan about a system that has nothing to do with you.

I challenge any of you Canadians to show me how your government-run health care system is better than ours. If you use some b.s. study I will call you on it. The facts are undeniable and on my side.

How about this: Canada's system can evolve to incorporate more private components and lower the overall tax funded cost. The US system can only go from private to public at an overall cost to the tax payer.

Take a look at the relative economies of both nations and tell me who's in a better position to do this.

Right, of course. This little pissant can come in here and insult the crap out of my Country but I have to ease up on him.

Hypocritical as always.

If you think about it, even private medical insurance such as Blue Cross is a form of socialism - all of the members pay into the plan, whether they use the benefits or not. That should be illegal in the US.

Why?

In that case ALL insurance should be illegal.

At any rate, when you have medical insurance it is used or going to be used eventually.

Yes but we all get to wait equally regardless of income. That is the socialist way.

Northern Ontario,
I am sure he was... to a point.
I think what pisses of Canadians is that this guy, born in Canada, used all the facilities in Canada to get an education, moves to the U.S. and after only a couple of years starts to rant against Canada using "we" and "they" as if he was American born.
I'm sure that you would be pissed off too if it were the other way around.
As you can see most of us don't condone JBeee's rants

So a Canadian Millionare has to sit in an ER... a high level politician... a doctor's family?

It varies somewhat from province to province with some services being available privately in the cities. But yes if you were involved in an MVA you will wait in ER according to need for medical attention, not income or status. A millionare needing a couple of stitches or a cast will wait for a skid row bum having a jammer.

So let's say Celine Dion is visiting her familiy... up there in Canada... and needs stitches... she's going to sit next to a skid row bum (or facsimile)?

I bet she won't.

As it should be - the only criteria should be the seriousness of the condition. Actually though you are only 99% correct- professional sports people and prison inmates will probably bump you out of line.

:lol::lol::lol:.............not really; neither do ordinary Canadians.

Really don't know why we give newbie trolls (OP) so much space................guess we haven't had a good troll in a long time.

Like someone said earlier, you really need to move your family to the US so they get the healthcare they need.

...........and deserve.

Probably not.... She'll be in the money-means-mighty crowd who are too important to wait - and can afford the private doc....

That's what I was getting at Wolf.

The Money-Means-Right crowd as you so accurately called them won't wait in an ER with a skid row bum. You will though. And I will, as a person who pays for health care will wait next to the uninsured in an ER as well. We'll both be treated.

This garbage that 45,000 people die because they don't have health care in the US is simply that... garbage. Once again the POOR have always been covered 100%. Everyone will get treated. However if you get treated and you are not covered, you will have to pay. Obama Care is going to mandate ALL who can pay, and simply won't pay... to pay for health insurance.
