Governments don't create jobs. Businesses create jobs. To blame a person or government for job losses, especially in recession is somewhat naive IMO. ;-)

Governments regulate, and over-regulation kills jobs.

How many jobs were lost because of no regulation in the states? We didn't have a huge issue here because of regulation.

You'd think they would learn down south but so far that baffoon in the White House and the dumbocrats havn't changed regulations at all...so guess what? It will happen again and again and again and again....etc etc.

Quite so, the foundation for huge job losses was laid during the Republican governance, when they had the presidency and the Congress for six years.

In Canada, the Liberals were in power, they were running huge surplus, they were running the economy sensibly. Indeed, it was the Liberal management of the economy that was responsible for Canada suffering only mild recession. Harper continued Liberal policies to some extent. He did blow all the surplus on huge tax cuts mostly favoring the rich, but at least he did not go into huge deficits to give tax cuts, like the Republicans did in USA.

Most were lost because of regulations, started by Carter and exacerbated by Clinton, forcing banks to make loans to people who could never afford to pay them off.

Oh, so it had nothing to do with 8 years under Bush 6 of which he controled both houses?

So why in regulated Canada did we not feel as much heat from this reccession?

Deregulation is why Walt, started under ever con's hero Reagan the drooling idiot.

Of course it didn't, that is why I pointed out to Walter, that he left out Johnson, Kennedy and FDR. At least according to conservatives, it was totally the fault of Democratic presidents, from FDR to Obama. All the Republican presidents are as pure, as blameless as driven snow.

Indeed, many conservatives seriously think that Bush was a great president, his low approval rating was simply due to propaganda by the Democrats.

If I didn't know better I could draw the conclusion that politicians (of all stripes) are very childish.:lol::lol::lol:

Everybody who is put on a pedestal falls off it sooner or later. Obama's biggest fault is that he is human. The second is that he let people put him on a pedestal. His is a long way down. I feel for the guy.

Dems launch defense to save Reid

These moves to turn the race issue back onto Republicans is risky, yet it shows how Reid and his allies are ready to pull out all the stops to help the majority leader recover from his disastrous comments about Barack Obama being “light-skinned” and having no “Negro dialect.” The comments were revealed in the book “Game Change” by journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin.

Now there is where you are wrong, In the U.S. we used to take care of our people, in times like this jobs were created, fixing roads, bridges even throwing out the garbage etc. These new liberal democrats haven't learned that yet. And it is :-(

Ironsides, what you conveniently leave out is that many blacks, including Congressional Black Caucus have accepted Reid’s apology and are ready to move on. I don’t think Reid will pay any penalty for his unfortunate remarks, now that he has apologized. He will be judged by the voters in November, but I seriously doubt that this issue will have any legs in November.

Indeed, that is the difference between Republican and Democratic politicians. When a Democrat utters something unfortunate, perhaps even racist, sure there is a general condemnation. But after he has apologized, people remember what he has done to better the position of blacks, what he has done to reduce racism in the society. And in the case of a Democratic politician, usually they find plenty. Same happened with Harry Reid, those who came to his defense pointed out the steps he has taken in the past to reduce racism (he worked for integration of the casino strip, for instance).

And blacks are not stupid; they know which politicians are trying to help them. So provided a Democrat apologizes and has done plenty in the past to combat racism, he is forgiven and is allowed to move on.

A Republican on the other hand, has nothing to fall back on; he cannot show any achievement in the past, as to what he has done to combat racism. When the attitude is one of unremitting hostility toward blacks, when he has done nothing to combat racism (he may even have promoted racism in the past), he does not get a pass, even if he apologizes.

Anyway, Reid has apologized, blacks have forgiven him, I think it till be over soon.

Big Deal!

But I do think it becomes increasingly obvious the Americans made the wrong choice.

The USA becomes increasingly polarized.

John McCain has a proven record of bi-partisan work.

Obama has trouble deciding and articulating on military matters.

John McCain does not. (Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran :)) That's a joke, for the lefties sans humour out there......

The USA slips deeper into financial distress.

John McCain co-authored a bill to curb the worst accesses of the markets years before the crash....

AND the old boy is still alive 12 months in ...lol....Sarah would be poisoning his Bran Flakes.....or putting moose horns on him.

We'll I am hoping he does try to make some headway in all of this but so far he has not done anything.

Unemployment is skyrocketting. Oil is up. Big bonuses going to execs in bailout companies and Obama can't seem to stop them. GITMO still open. Both wars ongoing. Things aren't looking good.

I left out nothing, my point was that if it had been a Republican in his position that had said it, that man would have been politically crucified. Of course his supporters will say it was nothing, a election is coming up. No one put those words in his mouth, did it all by himself. Did you forget Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. Nothing will be done and old Harry will continue on till Nov. 2010.

And I already explained to you why a Republican would have been crucified. When somebody makes a statement like that, people, particularly blacks look at the totality of his life. What has he done to help blacks in the past? If he has done plenty in the past, then his statement forms only a small part of the narrative. Provided he apologizes, he is forgiven.

The problem is, when a Republican makes such a statement, there is usually nothing in his background to show that he has done anything to help blacks. He may even have supported legislation which may have harmed blacks. In that case, the stupid, racist statement is not part of the narrative, it is the whole narrative. That is why a Republican does not have a cover when he makes a similar statement.

Thus when Senator Lott made a similar statement, that summarized his attitudes towards blacks, since he had done precious little in his life to help blacks, to try to better their lot. However, when Reid made such a statement he could point to a series of accomplishments in the past, where he has done plenty to help blacks.

That is why Lott was crucified, while Reid will survive.

And did you forget the Southern Strategy by Nixon, whereby a systematic attempt was made to woo the Southern white racists and to shut out the blacks from the Republican Party?

I used to think that Southern Strategy originated with Nixon. But I was reading the other day; its origin goes all the way back to Hoover. Hoover removed many blacks from the position of power in the Republican Party and replaced them with whites. So Nixon’s work was only an extension of the strategy originated by Hoover.

Anyway, over the decades, Republican Party has wooed the Southern white racists and given blacks the boot. These days most of the racists are congregated in the Republican Party. Not all Republicans are racist, but most racists are Republican.

Did you happen to see the Colbert Report last night? He had the audience chanting 'Nee' 'Gro', and then cut to Morgan Freeman, who did not look amused.

It was hilarious.
