And then of course there's all this kids crap that runs through the T.V. that should go to the dump. Cutting back 60% would probably be no biggie.

Hand crank radios, hand crank LED flashlights, hook up an alternator to your exercise bike, windmill power or pump, charge batteries (deep cycle) for 12 volt lights (LED), solar hot water and cooking. You could probably outfit your house for a year or two worth of hydro bills.

Just disconnect your TV's and appliances when your not using them, even off most use electricity for clocks, timers etc.

Ironically I actually have a hand crank flashlight somewhere that my daughter in law gave me for Xmas several years ago.

Cliff, when was that? Is Tesla the guy that was involved in wireless research (a Marconi competitor or something?)...might have it all wrong...memory is foggy! :lol:

Tesla was the greatest genius of the late 19th/early 20th century. He invented Tesla AC Electricity (alternating current), transporting of electricity over long distances, the Tesla Coil and over 700 other electrical and mechanical devices.

You did countryboy, I am still trying to figure out how Tesla thought Marconi beat him to it. Marconi didn't transmit usable electricity that I am aware of. Who knows where we would be today if Tesla and or his company had finished his work.

Environmentalist would have a stroke. Even though it would solve quite a bit and save us from using oil for power environmentalist would never dream of it and just scream "CHERNOBLE!" or "Three Mile Island!"

And they're all for wind power providing they do not have to see the windmill farms in their plush neighborhoods.

The environmentalists and others think that wind power is so good, and maybe it is if you like your birds chopped up. The wind turbines have to be put in the path of major wind currents, and migratory birds also follow these wind currents (flyways). Anyone ever wonder what the effects of a low frequency drone 24/7 can do to the human body psychologically? Solar power - In order to supply enough power to run a small city, you would need at a minimum 100,000+ acres of empty land in a place where the sun shines most of the time.say Arizona, and possibly Florida. That much land is just not available. What ever alternative power source we decide to use, will have to be available to support our growing population. This going back to what it was like in 1900 will never happen unless forced upon us by some sort of catastrophe. (not what might happen, but actually happen)


I could never compare Three Mile Island with Chernobyl, Three Mile Island proved nuclear power can work and our safety systems work, accidents can and will happen.

Nuclear power is way safer than coal-fired plants and with orders of magnitude less damage to the environment.

So instead of using any alternative sources we should just burn lots. :roll:
In our little 20 hectare corner of the planet we use power we generate from the creek as well as the power generated from the sun. We don't burn the NatGas that is available in this area.
Germany cut its power problem by a large fraction just from people putting solar panels on their roofs. Portugal is generating a large quantity of electricity from the wave motion off their coast. I haven't heard many grumbles from the Pincher Creek, Lethbridge area of Alberta because of the wind turbines there.
But, you are right. It's too hard for North Americans and we have lots of oil. Let's burn it. :roll:
