I've been a little suspicious of the Peace Prize committee ever since it awarded the prize to Henry Kissinger (Le Duc Tho had the grace and sense to refuse the joint offer, to his great credit in my view) and Yassir Arafat. Two of the nastier men with power in the 20th century, in my not very humble opinion.
What does being conservative have to do with it? I would have voted for Obama if I were American and would probably vote for him again in 2012. That has nothing to do with whether or not he deserves the Nobel Prize. The only people I see bringing politics into this are those that support his award nomination. That's not surprising as they can't really argue the pro side of this issue with reason. It's far easier to label everybody as partisan.

Mike Huckabee is advising his fellow Republicans to temper their criticism of President Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize award.
In a posting on his blog, the former GOP presidential candidate writes that members of his party must be careful their comments don't sound like "right-wing whining."
He is quite right of course. What the conservatives are saying does come across as whining.
Exactly what I have been saying, FP. These days for the Republicans, party comes first, the country comes second (ironically, they have been accusing Democrats for decades of being unpatriotic).
Whatever their political disagreements with Obama, one would think that they would be happy for him, and even happier for their country, for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. But since the prize was won by a Democrat, none of that matters, hatred of Obama comes before their love for their country.
The same type of mentality was evident in Chicago decision. Rather than Chicago get the Olympics, Republicans were actually ecstatic because USA didn’t get it (because Obama supported Chicago getting the Olympics). That is why there were champagne celebrations at the Republican headquarters, on the talk radio, right wing blogs because USA didn’t get the Olympics.
It wouldn’t surprise me if some of the Republicans hope that USA loses in Afghanistan, that Taliban and Al Qaeda takes over Afghanistan, just so Obama could get it in the neck.
Normally, the Nobel prizes are given to people who have accomplished something, not people who want to accomplish something.
That's the difference.
Nobel prizes should be for what you've done (past tense), not what you intend to do.

I haven't seen any reason, so far, for Obama to get this prize, but I see even less reason for all this gnashing of teeth over it.
Which is exactly why I kinda ducked out of this conversation awhile ago.....it is, after all, their money to give.....they can hand it off to Donal Duck for all I care........

So having Hitler, Stalin or Mussolini nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize wasn't enough to convince you of this fact? You needed Obama to actually win the award to be convinced?
The peace prize is all politics, pure and simple. Because the prize for sciences has a certain amount of deserved (although politics come in here as well) prestige, they are able to give these prizes out for peace and use that prestige to have influence they otherwise would not have.
You shouldn't need much evidence to believe that basic truth. The fact that you use Obama's award as the straw that broke the strawman's back is just laughable. It is funny to make such a fuss and cry "Politics!" about something which is blatantly obvious already.
