I realize not everyone is a phone junkie, but I am. Specifically, I'm into smartphones (namely android) and I love to tinker.

Just curious about the tastes and usage of fellow members here.

My current phone is a Samsung Nexus S (Android), root access and overclocked from 1ghz to 1.4ghz. ya, I'm geeky

The best kind of phone is one where you can call out but no one call you. I've been plagued with calls from a telemarketer???????? (877) number, never any answer. I phoned Shaw today to get it blocked but was told I don't have the right kind of phone for blocking, but for about $10 more a month I could. If everyone would just do the bare minimal amount of phoning for a couple of months we could get rid of all these bastards. The telemarketers are no doubt in cahoots with the phone companies.

I hear you when it comes to telemarketers, they drive me nuts.

Fior the most part though, I use my phone as a portable computer more then anything, it's great to have for the morning subways ride when synced with my favorite news sites.

I have a Kellog wind up phone in the basement, a pancake dial phone in my bedroom & a Keypad wall phone on the main floor (only because the kids demanded it several years ago when I was forced to go digital). Told ya I'm a Luddite

How do you operate a wind up phone? Don't you need a live operator to route your call?

My favoriteis still the old Motorolla brick. Rugged, dependable and could be used as a hammer.The buttons were big enough to push without a pencil. Most important it made phone calls without a bunch of gadgets I never use.

:confused3:One really old Motorolla cell phone kept in the car. Doesn't do much but call numbers. Which is why we bought it, fer highway emergencies and the like. Neat little charger what plugs into the cig. lighter.

VTech on a charger beside the computer. My wife has one also. She updates the speed dials on them all, and looks after the programming, etc. I could care less, and still rely on a "little black book" with all me important numbers...........LCBO, etc.

Push button plug in type on the table in the living room.

She is sorta techie, and likes messing with phones. She programmed my phone so it goes "ribbit ribbit" like a bullfrog when it rings. Hers plays something by Handel. I prefer training our beaver to cut logs into blocks so I don't have to. Jack Spratt could eat no fat, etc.

One advantage of doing it my way is that I remember all the phone numbers of all our friends and enemies, even ones who have been dead for a long time..................With my advancing age and mental peculiarities, that's quite a feat.:thumbright:

I kind of like phones that are just good for talking and listening, never mind other tasks like jerking off the dog.

I had to switch to a phone with a qwerty keyboard last year because my kids and grandkids kept sending me text messages and the only way I could answer fast was to press the # 6 three times and #5 twice to acknowledge their call or call them back on a regular phone.

Gotta come clean, there is a rotary dial installed in the Kellogg to make things easy.

I bought my brand new Samsung Galaxy S II just 4 days ago. I've been without a smartphone since my old Milestone was stolen in mid-April. It's so refreshing to be back online my an Android phone

You're like me. I'm not running a custom firmware right now but I have a modified kernal that allows to overclock the cpu to 1.4ghz, ext4 support and other various tweaks.

Do you use the "SetCPU" app? It's great for setting various cpu profiles, for example. If batter is less than 40%, underclock to 800mhz, or if screen is off, underclock to 200mhz etc etc. Another good one is "autostarts", gives you amazing control over what loads, allowing you to disable all sorts of crap that runs in the background.

I have the cheapest, dumbest phone available, because all I wanted was a phone. I don't do text messaging, I didn't want a camera, or a web browser, or an ebook reader, or a gaming device, or a word processor, or an email client, or a video player, or a GPS receiver, or any of the other things I find utterly pointless to do with such a small screen and a keyboard too small to type properly on. I'm a 10-finger touch typist and being limited to only my thumbs is irksome, as well as painful. I have other devices for those functions, and they do them better. Besides, I'm still convinced that a machine that tries to do everything won't do most things very well.
