who's done the deed of saying no more to places like McDonalds, A&W, Wendy's Burger King, Pizza Joints, etc? if so, good for you!

Those places are truly nothing but trouble for people and their health & Well-being!

sure, it's easier to go and order a big mac and Large fries with a Coke.. than to go home and make a meal of good wholesome vegetables, and a good healthy sized main course. But the outcome that will be for your health is just worth it!

and I think those who think it's perfectly fine to eat McDonalds all the time (or whatever place you choose) and will have no ill-affects are delirious and delusional..

What about the people who fall into a reasoned middle ground?

We can't always be home to eat. traveling for my daughter's swimming is a prime example. I see no issue with her getting McD's once every few months when we're away for a swim meet, especially given her training regimen. I typically order a water and a snack wrap, the kids order a burger and a water. Or, alternatively, we eat at Wendy's and get a salad or baked potatoe with a grilled chicken sandwich.

ya, that's really not the problem.

it's those who eat there weekly.. supersize and put all the crap on them.

those are the ones who I fear for..

I plan on starting to jog on Monday and watching what I eat. I will still have fast food, but not nearly as often as I do now. I am hopeful that by next year I will have lost at least 50 lbs. We had a family reunion last Sunday and I saw that my older cousin had successfully lost weight(50 lbs as a matter of fact). That made me decide to finally get off my duff and try and get myself healthier.

we haven't eaten at fast food joints for a long time, but do 'occasionally'. I have found in the past that
the fast food places are addictive. Makes one forget just how good 'real' food tastes, which has been
cooked from scratch, and has some nutrition as well, full flavoured, without all the salt, and ingredients
to tempt ones taste buds. When they produce this type of food that is their goal, to bring you to their
place, and please you, over and over, so the trick is, for those who go too often, is 'break' the spell, and
pull yourself away, and visit places that spend more time in preparation, and what you taste is the real
basic flavour of each food you are eating.

Not eating fast food isn't hard. Just eating healthy even at home can be. Depends on the type of body you have and your metabolism. It must depend on that. I've cut back on everything. I haven't eaten more than 3 desserts in 3 months. I avoid things like cheese and hamburger. I lost 21 pounds and in going without my salad lunch for 3 days in a row, I gained back one pound. I've eaten fries with a meal once in the past few months, I don't eat butter or margerine or sugar. (added sugar). I'm not eating in the evening. I'm not exercising but - I'm not sitting. I'm beginning to think that the only way I'll really lose weight is to quit eating all together. It's discouraging. I felt so good about what I did lose but then a two week standstill and then a one pound gain! I'm not quitting but I'm not sure what it's going to do. Wonder what would happen if I liked beer!!! :)

Everyone's body is different, no one can tell anyone else how to eat to keep them at the right weight, each
person has to know 'themselves' and go from there.
What I do know is, one shouldn't dislike the process they have to go through to keep their body at a weight
which is comfortable and healthy. A person must become comfortable with their eating habits, and enjoy their
food. If you were a big eater, that caused you to become obese, then it will be a big adjustment to change
that way of life, it will have to be done very slowly, and a one pound weight gain is just a 'hint' to you
that you have done something different, and your body reacted. Keeping a normal weight and a healthy body
is an everyday process, for the rest of your life, and should be enjoyable.

I don't know why you can't eat small amounts of butter/margarine, and small amounts of sugar, each day.
If your meals are small and spread out throughout the day, you should be able to have something light
in the evening.

Fries are poison, and I must be more vigilant with my eating habits, and stop eating them alltogether,
but I'm down to once a week for fries, so that is good, I pick my day when I have them, usually with fish
and chips, then no fries at all for another week. There are things I have cut out all together, can't
even remember them now, because out of sight, out of mind after a while.

It seems you are being too strict on yourself, and not enjoying what your doing, so it will become tiring
and harder to do over time, which will tempt you to quit alltogether.

The 21lb weight loss is very good, and while losing weight, it is very normal to
level off for awhile, then continue losing again. Enjoy a treat once in awhile,
it's a reward, then back to routine again.

Moderation in all things. Food is one of them.

That's just it- what you do once a month isn't going to hurt you- even McDonalds, or you could probably go to Subway once a week with no lasting damage, but if you do happen to over do it at McDonalds there's an antidote- 10 more minutes on the treadmill or climb a steep hill. As for French fries there's a healthy way of doing them, in the oven with just enough olive oil to coat the pan. It's not the spuds that are harmful, it's the deep frying process.

You're solution is in three words you said "I'm not exercising" - Exercise is a huge factor with weight control and it makes the lbs. you are left with look a lot better and it improves your strength, so the more you do the more you want to do. You sleep better, it raises the good cholesterol and lowers blood pressure and calms the nerves and increases the thinking ability. THERE IS JUST NO REASON NOT TO DO IT.

Since when is pizza a fast food? I can have a meat and veggie soup up and hot before someone puts a pizza on the table. Pizzas are healthy foods, if a little carb heavy.
Speaking of fast foods, I kind of like Quizzno's and Edo's. Quizzno's sandwiches are not much different from the subs that I can make at home except my sandwiches have homegrown stuff in them. Edo's is Japanese grilled food cooked in front of me and most of the ingredients are veggies, noodles or rice. I'll be damned if I'm gonna tote a fridge fulla stuff around with me, so I eat out sometimes. I also like having the odd Reuben sandwich or other deli sandwich that is fast food.
I think classifying ALL fast food as being like McD's or BK's is delusional.

Thanks for reminding us that fast food is not necessarily junk food. It is possible to eat an organic chicken very quickly with minimum preparation or simply pull a carrot or some other leafy thing out of your path on the way to work. Many of us would object to slow food more than fast food but I think the majority of us would draw the line at junk food. So let's democratically establish that it is junk food and not fast food that we are discussing, I don't think it will be possible to continue without that necessary clarification that annag has so wonderfully enlightenend us to. I am so gratefull to not have to spend another minute in such profound and sorry state of ignorance.

I haven't gone near a fast food restaurant i.e. Mickey D's, A&W, Burger King, Wendy's et al, for several years now. We do not have fast food places that offer organic meals in our area, wish we did as I do miss the odd treat of eating out.

I certainly don't call a pizza fast food. A home made pizza is great.

Why just pick on fast food outlets? I am sure a burger and fries at Kelseys or Montanas is just as bad for you....

Since moving to Vancouver in the early 70's I've never eaten the stuff.

Did have a St Bernard dog who like McBarfle's so she got a treat from time to time.

I suppose the closest I've come to eating fast food was a breakfast muffin from Timmy Ho's in Abbotsford about 4 years ago-God Almighty what a piece of junk!

It helps to live in a place like Vancouver and be in good neighbourhoods when hungry.

Best, healthiest burgers on the planet can be found at "Sleep is for Sissies" in Winlaw, in the Slocan Valley - marinated organic beef barbecued to perfection with wild mushrooms, real cheddar cheese, assorted salad greens and their special sauce. Messy as hell to eat but gourmet like you wouldn't believe.
