But it's a fair bet that the majority of Americans wanted to see this matter concluded in a court of law, not by the bullet

gopher: I agree. as most americans are civilized , humanitarian folks that don't approve of barbaric acts like we have seen in the past few years.

It is with disbelief that most of these over the top situations are met. As until now.....this kind of conduct was attributed to the lesser civlizied nations that still border on barbarism.

Nope, nothing in there about the following...

Which you have never proven, though claimed several times.

You're a sad little man, when you have to resort to lies misrepresentations and projections.

I am thankful we still retain some of the old ways, must never forget our past.

that is ONE viewpoint. IMHO......it is critical to LEARN from the past and use those learnings ( knowledge) for an improved present and future.

Retaining "old ways" may provide traditional "comfort" when one is not prepared for or want the changes that are inevitable as time moves on . Sticking to "old ways" also means avoiding the many conveniences of the present....including using computers, cell phones , and the many medical tools that are used to enhance patient care.

but that is digressing from the topic at hand.

IMHO......the US has become far too climatized to killing as a solution , killing as a form of justice and if THAT is what you mean by "retaining" the old ways. As it is very "old" to use killing, torture, lynching , targetted assassinations and other barbaric acts as a form of "justice" It denies the civlization that we as a people are supposed to have reached. Of course some will venture that those that have been targetted are not civilized. Fair enough......their conduct is not civilized, it is criminal......but that does not mean that "we" have to lower ourselves to their level .....as that is all that happens. If we are to be an example to the developing parts of the world......it is imperative we follow the laws and ethics we claim to live by. Without laws, ;, and ethical standards .... we are not civilizled and are not "free". A free society needs & has boundaries that are defined by the law , ethical and even "moral" standards.

Not sure if it is true or not, but very aptly put, and arrived just in time.

Here's a quote from a government employee who witnessed a recent
interaction between an old woman and an antiwar protester.

There were protesters at the grocery store handing out pamphlets
on the evils of America . I politely declined to take one.

There was an old woman behind me and a young (20-ish) female
protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.

The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder
as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice the young lady
said ", don't you care about the children of Iraq ?"

The old woman looked up at her and said:
"Honey, my father died in France during World War II,
I lost my husband in Korea , and a son in Vietnam .

All three died so a *itch like you could have the right to stand here
and badmouth our country.

If you touch me again, I'll stick this umbrella up your ars and open it."

Who is we? We do have laws, they are all ours. we do not have to prove anything to anyone. As for our ethics and morality who are you to question them.

Obama Has Awlaki’s 16-Yr-Old Son, Friends Killed at Dinner

16-Year-Old US Citizen, Friends Were Eating Dinner When Missile Landed

by Jason Ditz, October 18, 2011

The extra-legal assassination of New Mexico cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was certainly controversial in its own right, but reports about the assassination targeting some sort of terrorist convoy seem to be crumbling under evidence and the number of children killed in the attack.
Among the slain was also Abdel-Rahman Awlaki, Anwar’s 16-year-old son, one of his cousins Ahmed Abdelrahman Awlaki, and several of their friends, who were all teenage boys

He deliberatley placed his family at risk. There were 300 people on the plane that the underwaer bomber had his balls burned on.
13 Killed in texas by that Major.
Do you not condemn someone that places their own family at risk?

I think Obama should increase his security 10 fold. Since he has made the decision to have leaders of anti-American groups assassinated, then as the leader of the group, he's wearing a very large target. It's like a gang war.

What is really CRAZY is that the USG CREATED these anti american groups by their actions, biases, preferential treatment of some, while warring on others and stealing their resources. The USG has a lot to account for..... but too many are too blind to see it. Their blind patriotism is as fanatical as some religous extremism. That too, they can't see. and will not see. They will go to their graves being blinded by their beliefs and nationalism just as the other extremists will do the same.

the brainwashing has been far too successful now. REASON , good sense and logic have totally left the building.

I'm not the one crying.

Yes you are - see here:

------------------------------------

Now, back on topic:

Al-Awlaki's death as well as those extremists who made threats against the USA will likely be used by President Obama in his re-election campaign. It will be interesting to see how the GOP argues against that.
