Texas lawyers offer $10,000 for George Zimmerman's legal defense

The National Association for Legal Gun Defense wants to contribute $10,000 toward George Zimmerman's legal expenses, a member said today.

The group represents gun owners involved in self-defense shooting cases, said attorney Blue Rannefeld of Fort Worth, Texas.

Rannefeld said he has not been able to contact Zimmerman, 28, and is trying to reach Zimmerman's attorney, Craig Sonner of Altamonte Springs to make the group's offer of assistance.

Zimmerman's shooting death of Trayvon Martin, 17, on Feb. 26 in Sanford remains under investigation.

Ya know, if it were me that figured out that I had screwed up by shooting some kid after I thought he had a gun, found out it was a phone and a bag of skittles, and didn't want to face the music, it wouldn't be too far fetched to think I couldn't give myself a fat lip, bloody nose, and a few scratches on my head and concoct a story that sounded reasonable. A little pain and loss of blood beats a court battle and jailtime, IMO.

Just a possibility to consider.

Indeed. There is a bit of a problem with his claims of being injured... The video released shows NO injury to the back of his head , no injury to his nose. No indication of being in pain. No blood stained clothes. OK.....the claim is that the cops took his clothes for forensics?? IF so , when was this........as when he arrived at the police station he was dressed in what seems to be the clothes he wore at the shooting site. "they" say that the cops cleaned him up and gave him first aid. When did this take place?? Who specifically did this?? Did not realize that cops in that area were so caring , sympathetic so as to do this before he arrived at the station.

If they are going to come up with a REASONABLE sounding self defense theory , they should make sure it hangs together a whole lot better and is "believable".

The positive is that the nation is discussing this on a broader level. Yes, it is emotional..... and reactive ...but that is part of the process of change in attitude too.

the negative is...........that the US media does not present the facts of the news in a matter of fact , calm and reasonable way. It dramatizes everything by virtue of tone, language , and repetition. This seems to be the recurring system of doing things. Be it Casey Anthony , or ??? They beat the situation to the ground and when it has been over stated , dramatized and changed with time.......they continue to beat it .....UNTIL the next shooting or crime takes place , (that catches the media's fancy or imagination)

What is really interesting is that the really GOOD questions come from folks that phone in.

Did you forget to add....... have they checked the angle of the entry wound? Severity or not of powder residue? Or would you prefer that you be right at any cost?

why the attack?? It is not a matter of who is right here. It is a matter of the evidence as we know it to date. About entry wound. Have not heard the details about that. If you have , please let us know. Have not heard anything about gunshot residue.

Of course the other question is : What photos were taken at the scene of the shooting?? The cops released the video that shows Zimmerman without any of the injuries he would have had if he had been beaten as he supposedly described. Will they be releasing photos later?? Or will that just add more confusion to the situation.

One thing I did NOT realize is that cops "cleanup" the person they find at the scene of the incident. THat is what some are saying to explain the no blood stains from his own injuries . Wonder if this is before or after they take the photographs for evidence. The autopsy results that have been released so far....indicate that there were NO injuries on Martins hands, etc Only evidence of the gunshot. injury.

Truth be known, I'm getting a little tired of hearing about Trayvon Martin and the numbskull that shot him. I'm sure there are thousands of such stories in the states about stupid people who shouldn't be allowed near a gun. but somehow they manage to get a gun and kill somebody.

"...........do I think its 1962 in Selma, Alabama? Nobody does except Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Sorry, I should say the Reverend Al Sharpton or the Reverend Jesse Jackson. I don’t know quite how long it’s been since Reverend Jackson has been a practicing pastor at any church, but you’re obliged to call him that for all of eternity. These superannuated hucksters make their livings out of their cobwebbed grievance mongering. What’s interesting is that the rest of the world has moved on. There’s no real white guy involved in this. They want you to think it’s like a Klansman, this white racist. For starters, this guy is a registered democrat. He’s half hispanic, which is why the New York Times has had to invent the term “white-hispanic” hitherto unknown to American journalism. “White-hispanic” was a phrase constructed so that this guy could still be white enough to fit the narrative of the Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton super-annuated race huskers. It’s pathetic. What’s interesting about this story is that it shows America has moved on. None of us know the circumstances. Did this guy racially profile the black teenager in the hoodie and take action? Maybe the black teenager in the hoodie profiled the middle-aged hispanic man coming towards him and thought, “Oh what is this? A big Latino gangster? The idea that this fits some sort of Eisenhower template of Mr. and Mrs. White-Picket-Fence America being unable to get past their endemic racism -— it’s not at all."

Do you see being questioned about your disingenuous and speculative posting as an attack?
At this point IMO it matters not who is guilty but how the current lack of official evidence released is being second guessed to promote two agendas, anti gun and anti white.

You missed a big group, the ones who see this as yet more evidence of system failure.

Nobody knows anymore than the next 'expert', 'analyst', Black Panther, Stormfront Member, internet know-it-all or garden variety douchebag. No citizen, no CC trouble-maker or do-gooder, no preacher, no NRA lawyer...not even Piers Morgan, or that that beacon of journalism Touré. And if you didn't watch his pathetic rant on Morgans' show as posted earlier, I recommend all 14 minutes of it.

Anywho...

Where are the Trayvon Martin documents?

The special prosecutor assigned to case is blocking the release of documents and evidence to the public

The press has largely been blocked from documents in the Trayvon Martin case, because the special prosecutor assigned to the case is exercising an exemption in the law. One of the only documents related to the case released to the public is the police report from the scene of the shooting.

Florida's freedom of information laws are some of the most extensive open records laws in the nation. In most circumstances, the press would have access to many documents and other investigative evidence. These open records law help the media give you information. For example, Trayvon Martin's autopsy report could answer a lot of questions about his death, but for now, we don't know when that will be released. In fact, it's not even known if authorities performed an autopsy on Martin's body.

On Thursday, the special prosecutor Angela Corey issued a press release saying her office is "asserting an active criminal investigative information records exemption for any documents, videos, or factual information regarding the case."

Corey ends her press release by saying, "For the sake of all involved, please allow us to do our job within the bounds of Florida law."

The Florida Attorney General's office isn't the only organization concerned about the media coverage in this case.

On Thursday, the city of Sanford, Florida, sent the media a stern warning… then took it back.
The city issued a press release expressing concern over incidents where the media followed city staff and approached them at home or settings outside of work. The press released said, "Law enforcement officials will not hesitate to make an arrest for stalking."

Besides interpreting 9-1-1 calls, various accounts by witnesses, nifty baiting speculation and otherwise presumptive judgements, this is the only document released to date...the police report:

On a lighter note, here are some opinions of the 'jail' video provided by our friends at The Onion:

In a surveillance video of assailant George Zimmerman from the night of the Trayvon Martin shooting, Zimmerman does not appear to be bloody or injured, raising questions about his story of being attacked and beaten by Martin. What do you think?

  • Perhaps the Sanford police should consider switching to the Canon Legria HF G10, which shoots 1920 by 1080 high-def video with an optional 25p frame rate for a truly cinematic look.

  • Okay, fine. Let’s assume Trayvon Martin didn’t attack George Zimmerman. Does that make him any less black?

NBC to do ‘internal investigation’ on Zimmerman segment

NBC told this blog today that it would investigate its handling of a piece on the “Today” show that ham-handedly abridged the conversation between George Zimmerman and a dispatcher in the moments before the death of Trayvon Martin. A statement from NBC:
“We have launched an internal investigation into the editorial process surrounding this particular story.”
Great news right there. As exposed by Fox News and media watchdog site NewsBusters, the “Today” segment took this approach to a key part of the dispatcher call:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.
Here’s how the actual conversation went down:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.
Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?
Zimmerman: He looks black.
The difference between what “Today” put on its air and the actual tape? Complete: In the “Today” version, Zimmerman volunteered that this person “looks black,” a sequence of events that would more readily paint Zimmerman as a racial profiler. In reality’s version, Zimmerman simply answered a question about the race of the person whom he was reporting to the police. Nothing prejudicial at all in responding to such an inquiry.
In an appearance on Fox News’s “Hannity,” Brent Bozell, president of the conservative Media Research Center, called this elision on the part of ”Today” an “all-out falsehood” — not just a distortion or misrepresentation.
