Tubes that big could also be ridden edgewise and rolled down the hill with some poor sap inside it. The 'groomed jump' was usually a creek withs steep banks. Pretty basic grooming, with todays quads the 'uses' could at lease drag a groomer up and down and the 'older kids' would also be able to keep the runs almost bobsled smooth and toughed enough to zig-zag so the run doesn't have to be straight. In the summer it is a bike path. Some snow steps are also nice for getting up the hill as fact as possible if you are in shape that is many more rides down in a day. The creek could be used as a skating rink that is narrow and kilometers in length and quads could groom the ice so speed skates could be utilized for the speed hungry. 2 sleds and a 2x4 with a lawn rake mounted in the middle will level out any hill as long as the tangs be set so the high spots are scraped and the low spots filled. Do that as many times as you like, it should get a bit faster each time the path is groomed.
I remember one day my friend and I used metal garbage can lids as shields to try to stop the Roman Candles we were firing at each other. Luckily we ran out of projectiles before we ran out of luck. We were 9 or 10 at the time. Can't just walk on down to the corner store and buy a few Roman Candles these days.
I remember going to an abandoned field and riding my bike with friends up and down the piles of dirt. No helmet of course. Most such sites these days are completely fenced off and all kids wear bike helmets.

Riding said bike from Penticton to Summerland (including up the hill) along the old h-way (it was a longer and twistier road back then).
The closest Co-op is an hour and a half south in the Slocan Valley. Not sure if they carry them there.
It amazes me that any of us survived our youth.
