The pawns aren't that ambitious. More likely, the King and Queen will corner the rest of the board, again. That is the default form of human governance and we will most likely end up back there.

AI and robotics are believed by many economists to be at the core for why income inequality is so high now and has been widening since the 1960s. During the 2008 recession it was the first time that corporations actually went through one and saw profits rise as just one example. With 47% of all jobs to be automated over the coming 20 years and no known sector to pickup the employment slack the problem is going to get much worse.

Now I am child of the prairie and like all true prairie folk the Great Depression is hardwired into our psyche. I am convinced that capitalism will be replaced not because of a better system to come along, but to prevent or because of a revolution. I am equally convinced things will get worse from there long before they flat line and start to improve. Looking into the ole crystal ball there is nothing about the future. Looking at the present Boomers OP is bang one when they talk about people not really living today.

I'll never forget my grandfather telling me back in the 80s that he wouldn't want to be my age at the time. He complained that for all our modern conveniences and technology life was becoming too crappy and hardly worth living. I understand more what he was talking about now when I look at things from my 1960/70s perspective weighed against the present.

I don't know about that Walter. People are tired of Big Corporations getting a free ride, they are also tired of 1% of the world's population owning most of the wealth.

NDP won in Alberta, and may very well win federally in Canada.. those are clear indications that people are tired.

Let be clear about one thing. NDP DID NOT win because people believed in what they had to offer. They won because of vote splitting mostly and then ignorant (younger) people who didn't have a clue who they were voting for.

I've actually spoken to some young people and they said they didn't know who they were voting for - they just didn't want the conservatives back in. They had no clue what their candidate stood for - in fact they didn't know who their NDP candidate even was until they got to the voting booth. How scary is that?

It's freeking unbelievable!! If that's what is going to happen federally, we're in a lot of trouble because of ignorance and laziness!!

No matter. Albertans have four years to reflect on the error of their ways and figyre out how to buy their way out of the mess the NDP is crearing.

So you polled one person and came up with this brilliant deduction. Yes that is freaking unbelievable!!

I'm sure there were enough informed voters who wanted an NDP win, and that is what they got.

The Conservatives have given the Gas companies a free ride as the expense of the Alberta people. Notley raised the corporate taxes, taxes on the rich and raised the royalties.. this is what the Alberta people wanted and voted for.

The Conservatives solution was to raise the cost of health care for people. Health Care must always remain equal to all, regardless of wealth.

The Conservatives failed, were corrupt, didn't protect Alberta's future and left Alberta in debt.

Anything but the Conservatives, is a great motto.

LOL Walter and is -1's - I must be on the right track.

Spite votes. It's gonna cost them.

What would you do if you are 17 or 18 fresh out of high school and living in AB?

Which direction would you take? Polytech? College? University? Trade? Move? Smoke dope and drink beer and work in service? Pull your pud?

Capitalism is why we have nice things.

How many nice things do we need though?

Our cultural concept of success is what's evolving, and that's where the conflict is. Those who see a better place beyond materialistic greed are viewed as a threat to the status quo.
