A wonderful precedent. I for one wish they'd look for and fire more doctors doing **** like this.

Did they happen to say what his severance package is going to cost taxpayers?

If I understood correctly what they were saying on the local radio station about swine flu today and they had their facts straight there is no point in getting a shot now.
They said that it will be two weeks until more vaccine is available and that is a small amount and it takes two weeks to kick in. Also that there is ten more weeks left in the flu season.
So by the time there is enough to go around it will be too late anyway.

I don't disagree with you but doctors pretty much know that right now we need their services so bad that we'll put up with a lot more than we ever did before. I'm glad they have fired the senior person responsible for this fiasco though.

I don't think we've heard the last of this. Right now I'll bet he's consulting with a lawyer, and one scenario I would predict is he'll go for a huge severage settlement and the powers that be will probably decide it's cheaper to reinstate him. There's probably other cases of queue jumping somewhere in the country that are just as if not more reprehensible than this case. The bottom line is he'll probably come out smelling like a rose while some lawyer or group of lawyers hits the jackpot.

Who decides what is "Flu Season"? Stands to reason it starts earlier in Yellowknife and lasts longer. Same with any Far North or Far South (Chile or Pakistan) location. Also H1N1 did not disappear in the summer months so why should we think it will be gone by January 15th. (10 weeks from now).

Exaclty - nowhere in the article does it say any more than a senior staff member. Why people would take this to mean a doctor, I don't know.

I can't speak for Karrie, but my comment had more to do with previous posts in this thread.

For me, there is more danger in a line-up, a clinic or a hospital ER than there is in my home in the woods. If I catch anything any more, it's usually whatever bug the grandkids have picked up....

When I initially talked to the health clinic about getting a Swine Flu shot I was told that I was in one of the top priority groups. A day and a half later I'm told that most seniors are immune to the flu bug and we are moved to the back of the line. So, no flu shot because I am immune.......I hope;-)

You got that right, I'm not as concerned about the swine shot, but would like to get my regular flu shot.

Well, I just found out that I will be going to my first H1N1 funeral. A friend's son past away last night. I really hope that those that have been proud of jumping to the front of the line are happy.

Oh, Cannuck...I am so sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to the family. Sometimes you feel so helpless, and this is one of those times.

the Genius in charge of Ont. distribution of HINI vac. told us today that the Piggy stuff in ONt. has "just about" run its' course.

..................And, also, that we would run out of the vaccine by the end of the week.:lol: Too rich.

So, I made an appointment to get the "regular flu" vac. from me family doc, next week, and trust to the immunity I got wayyyyyyyyy back when to protect me and mine from the HINI (sounds Japanese) stuff.

At least "they" say us olfarts got immunity. They wouldn't lie to a fella, would they??

I do remember being deathly ill when I was a wee lad, and the family doc coming to the house and givin me a shot in the arse with a huge needle. DOCTORS MADE HOUSE CALLS!!!!!!!. Didn't cure me, but I said it did, cause it goddam hurt!!

It's really frightening everytime you hear of a young person dying from the H1N1. We went out to a clinic a few nights ago. The paper we had just gave a date, no details. We found out it was for children up to 60 months. Like you Juan, they immediately told us that they were not giving shots to those 65 and older nor were they giving them to care-givers of high risk children. They told us to come back next week but probably by then, all the vaccine will be gone anyway. Both my husband and myself are feeling pretty "iffy" today. Our regular clinic said the government would not allow them to give out the yearly flu shot so for the first time in about 10 years, here we sit feeling quite un-protected from any flu. The kids are the ones who bring it home but I am up close and while not too personal with a lot of people daily, I'm in a position to get almost anything.
Even for here I was amazed by the way people were dressed while waiting in the line-up. I saw both adults and kids in nothing more than T-shirts. Some didn't seem to notice the cold air surrounding us while others shivered endlessly. I had to wonder why their parents didn't prepare them for the weather and the length of time they would be out in it. Today is cold with what seems like endless wet wet rain and wind. I wonder if there are people standing out in it, waiting for the shot so they can then go home and come down with a bad cold in the morning.

I got my seasonal flu shot today, the Swine shot in about 3 more weeks. I think what a lot of people are overlooking is the fact that those of us born before 57 won't get a severe dose of the Swine if indeed we get it at all. I am a little concerned about my grand kids, the 8 year old spent a night in the hospital last Xmas with pneumonia, but I would imagine they will all be getting it at school.
