$6 million huh? Even chumpier....I know it's not your point but it's 6 million, not 16 million. It's almost 2/3 less than what you are calling chump change. That's why I questioned the point of the hunt.

The hypocrisy surrounding the animal rights groups and their continued attack against the hunt while other animals are being slaughter by the thousands is sickening and disturbing.
Fact of the matter is the seal population is not in danger as the protesters would like you to believe. The population has exploded over the last 10 years. Does anyone understand the stress this is placing on our struggling cod stocks? Seals are so desperate for food they are swimming up rivers in search of a meal. The protesters in their infinite wisdom are so focused on saving the seals they have lost sight of the bigger picture.
My new mantra: Save a cod, club a protester.
Back that up please. Something as general as that statement needs to be qualified, if you please.
Why PETA is the WORST kind of hypocrite
The IFAW is a $100 million a year entity. The seal hunt is their cash cow.
There is a reason populations of a species explodes. Often when we are involved, it's go something to do with us cutting the numbers of their preditors down. Thus their numbers rise for a while until the natural balance is achieved. Usually through a shortage of food.
The Cod stocks were fished out by people not seals. So how can it be that the seal pelt harvest is to preserve the Cod fishery, which has at this point collapsed on the east coast?
Now shouldn't we just leave things alone and allow them to find a natural balance and then attempt to live within that balance? Or is the big picture not about to include balance?
Man has already upset the natural balance through greed and lack of vision as far as the fishery goes. Seals eat cod, that's a fact. The increasing seal population is putting pressure on the existing cod stocks, which have dwindled to alarming levels already. My advice to anyone who wants the real story here is to talk to the people who fish these oceans daily. The fisherman can tell you with absolute accuracy whats going on in the oceans. They've been at odds with DFO, scientists and animal rights groups for decades but nobody wanted to listen. Now we have to deal with the situation at hand.
That's your mantra?
We may be witnessing the last hunt this year. I expect the IFAW, PETA, Greenpeace and the rest of the self-righteous treehuggers will win out on this one. But keep this in mind. The seal population now stands at about 5.5 million. Once the hunt is banned, expect the numbers to increase dramatically. The ecological unbalance will be so drastic that in 10 years time we will be overrun with seals. They will not only keep the cod stocks down but other species will be at risk as well. If this happens I say we put the people associated with these animal rights groups right where they belong...in the gallows. Feed them only water and seal meat.
The gallows is humane. Have you ever eaten seal?
Take me to the gallows pole....sounds grim. Perhaps a little to quick for our well meaning friends. Perhaps regular jail will do, so they can have time to think about their behaviour.![]()
Er....if you placed them in the gallows you would not have to feed them seal meat or give them water.;-)![]()

Ha...Shadow that's still too good for them. No windows and I'll be happy. They may get a little stir-crazy...![]()

Tongue planted firmly in cheek of course...
